There are thousands of men, women, and children in Metro Atlanta who face the perilous conditions of winter without a roof over their heads.
Your registration fee for the race will cover one night of shelter and services for someone who would otherwise spend the night in the cold, on the streets.

This is event is held to raise awareness and funds to help families and children with disabilities and debilitating diseases.
Pound the Pavement and Peter’s proceeds this year will be donated to fund 3 critical aspects to realizing potential for these children, and inspiring hope for their families – Disease Research, Medical Care and Inclusion in Education. Due to the size of the race and the Festival that will be going on simultaneously we are requesting runners to pick up packets ( race number - shirt - special gift) at our convenient packet pick up location on the 24th. Runners can pick up multiple packets for friends and family. The size of the race and items to be given with a festival going on at the same time will make a race day packet pick up very difficult for our volunteers and runners so we are making a mandatory early pick up so that race day will go smoothly for all. We do understand some will not be able to make this and we ask that you reach out to us. We will approve race day pick up on a case by case basis. Thank you for your understanding
Registration is tiered the earlier you sign up the less expensive it will be ! Sign up early as this RACE WILL SELL OUT FAST - Race is capped at 500 runners and will sell out quickly

Join us for the Fostering LIFE 5K & Community Festival, a certified 5K run, family-friendly walk, and community celebration held in Grant Park during National Foster Care Month. This event brings together runners, families, caregivers, and community members to raise awareness about the current state of foster care in Georgia and the critical needs of youth in care and the families who support them. Whether you’re running the certified course or walking alongside others in support, your participation helps shine a light on the realities facing children and caregivers within the foster care system.
New This Year: Community-Powered & Free to Register
To remove barriers to participation, registration for this event is free. Participants are invited to give what they can at registration or on event day. All donations directly support Fostering LIFE’s work and ensure this event remains accessible while advancing its mission.
Why This Event Matters
Fostering LIFE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth impacted by foster care to excel in leadership, independence, faith, and education. We also recognize that supporting youth requires supporting caregivers, including foster and kinship parents, who play a vital role in stability and long-term outcomes.
Funds raised through this event directly support:
-
Annual scholarships for graduating seniors in foster care
-
College readiness kits to support successful postsecondary transitions
-
Programs that strengthen both youth and the caregivers who walk alongside them
After the race, stay and celebrate at our Community Festival, featuring family-friendly activities, music, food, and opportunities to learn more about how you can support foster youth year-round. This event is an opportunity to move with purpose, raise awareness, and invest in futures that too often go unsupported.
Rooted in Purpose. Growing Forward.

About the Run for East Lake 5K & Fun Run
The East Lake Foundation is thrilled to host the Run for East Lake 5K & Fun Run on Saturday, August 2nd, presented by the East Lake Family YMCA. The 5K race will start and finish at Charles R. Drew Charter School’s Junior and Senior Academy and the race will weave through the beautiful East Lake community highlighting the Villages of East Lake, East Lake Family YMCA, Charlie Yates Golf Course, and much more. The route will also provide participants the unique opportunity to run through the back 9 holes of historic East Lake Golf Club, home of the TOUR Championship, which will take place August 20-24, 2025. The Fun Run (400 meter dash) will take place in front of Charles R. Drew Charter School Junior and Senior Academy after the 5K and is open to all ages.
About the East Lake Foundation
Founded in 1995 by developer and philanthropist Tom Cousins, the East Lake Foundation collaborates with The Villages of East Lake residents, Charles R. Drew Charter School families, and other key service providers to ensure every member of our community has equitable access to the resources, tools and supports needed to thrive through its integrated and holistic model for community revitalization. The Foundation has helped to create mixed-income housing and infrastructure, educational opportunities from cradle to college, and community wellness and economic vitality activities such as entrepreneurship, career readiness, and financial literacy, among others, to ensure the East Lake neighborhood is recognized for what is possible and not defined by its past.
This innovative approach has proven that a community that had experienced disinvestment and a lack of opportunities for decades can be transformed into a neighborhood where children and their families thrive and experience increased upward mobility, improved health outcomes, and greater racial equity.
The success of the East Lake Initiative has served as the blueprint for a national model of holistic community redevelopment through Purpose Built Communities. Today, there are 27 additional Purpose Built Communities across the country — all of which are successfully creating opportunities for residents and building strong, economically diverse communities. On August 8th, 2026, an anticipated 2,000 runners, walkers, and spectators, will gather for the 2026 Vinings Downhill 5K race. The Vinings Down Hill 5K course begins at the top of Mt. Wilkinson, winds around the Cumberland Mall area, and ends at the Lovett School (280-foot net drop).
Despite the name of the race, well, it’s “not quite” all downhill…there are 3 hills to climb throughout the race – at the half-mile mark, during the second mile and during the last half-mile. There are also 3 really amazing down hill sections that make up for those climbs!
There is also a Kids 1K Fun Run and a fun Doggie Dash & Costume Contest!
Our event includes a huge post race party at Vinings Jubilee with awards, music, great food and expo.
