The Norwegian Ruck March is a military endurance event that involves marching 18.6 miles (30 km) while carrying a rucksack weighing at least 25 pounds, designed to test physical and mental stamina.

    History and Purpose

The Norwegian Ruck March originated in 1915 as a test of marching endurance for soldiers in the Norwegian military. Its strategic goal was to enable troops to move large units swiftly over great distances while remaining combat-ready. Today, it aims to stimulate interest in long-distance marching among both military and civilian participants.

    Event Standards

Distance: Participants must complete a march of 18.6 miles (30 km).

Weight: A minimum rucksack weight of 25 pounds (11 kg) is required.

Uniform: Military personnel must wear an approved military uniform and military-grade boots. Civilians can wear civilian clothing, but it must weigh at least 3.3 pounds (1.5 kg).

    • The ruck consists of a timed 30 km/18.6-mile march (march/run) with rucksack containing 11 kg (24 lbs.)

    • Military Members: Field uniform will be worn with military grade boots

    • Civilians: Civilian clothing is allowed but must include boots, long pants, and be a minimum weight of 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs.).

    • Rucksack with contents must weigh in at minimum 11 kg/24 lbs. at both start and finish line. Rucks/backpacks must be in regulations for military participants, and it is highly recommend to utilize a ruck with frame and waist belt.
