Join us for a fun, fast-paced, and family-friendly orienteering adventure set in the beautiful woods of John Bryan State Park and Camp Birch. Whether you’re brand new to orienteering or a seasoned navigator, runner, hiker, or explorer—this event is for you!

🧭 What Is Orienteering?

Orienteering is an outdoor navigation sport where participants use a detailed map and compass to locate checkpoints across varied terrain. It blends strategy, speed, problem-solving, and exploration—a real-world treasure hunt for all ages.

    The Cheddar Challenge 5K is back at Young's Jersey Dairy!

    Our herd of runners and walkers will enjoy a scenic course on the farmland around Young’s Jersey Dairy, including a loop in the Young’s Christmas Tree Farm and a path through our original barn built in 1869. This 3.1 mile run is suited for runners and walkers at all levels. After the race, participants can enjoy the Young's Farmstead. All participants signed up by May 16 will receive a t-shirt and all finishers.

    This event benefits: Alzheimer’s Association, Breakthrough T1D, South Community Behavioral Health, United Rehabilitation Services.

    Early packet pickup: Friday, May 29, 5:00pm-7:00pm Red shelter at Young’s Jersey Dairy. Day of Race registration and packet pickup opens 7:30am. Race starts promptly at 9:00am.

    Those signing up after 5/16/26 are not guaranteed a shirt and medal.

    COURSE: Timing is provided by Can’t Stop Timing Company. The race starts and ends at The Riding Centre. Water will be provided at the start and finish and during the race. Split times will be given at each mile. There will be refreshments for all participants afterward.

    AWARDS: Award presentations begin promptly after last finisher, with Unique Awards to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Male and Female Overall and Master Runners (40 and over).

    AGE GROUPS: Awards will be given to top 3 in each category: 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80 and over.

    REGISTRATION: Registration is available to all through RunSignup prior to the race. Online registration remains open until approximately 15 minutes before race start and can be done in-person at the race. Hard copy registration sheets are also available on race day if needed. Minors may be registered on RunSignup by a parent or guardian or in-person with a parent or guardian present to sign the waiver.

    CHECK-IN: All participants must check-in before the race and attach their assigned timing chip to one of their shoes. Look for the table with the green tablecloth to get your chip.

    We recommend you arrive at least one hour before the race to park, check in, and warm-up prior to the race start.

    FEES:

    All Current ORRRC Members Run for Free (Fee waived automatically when your RSU membership profile is used to register online, or bring your card/proof of membership to the event)

    Non-Members:

    – $10 for ages 15 and up

    – Free for ages 14 and under

    Members, if you don't register through RunSignup, you absolutely MUST show proof of membership on race day to be eligible for the member fees! No exceptions!

    ANIMAL POLICY: Due to our insurance coverage, animals are not permitted at any ORRRC event. The only exception is service dogs, which must be clearly identified. Persons with any other animals will be removed from the event (will not be issued a timing chip, and will not appear in results or photos). We thank you in advance for your cooperation!

    Step into the night for a fast-paced urban orienteering adventure under the Sturgeon Moon! This event is designed for all experience levels—first-timers, seasoned navigators, runners, hikers, families, and friends.

    🧭 What Is Orienteering?

    Orienteering is an outdoor navigation sport where you use a detailed map (and optionally a compass) to find checkpoints scattered across the terrain. It’s part strategy, part speed, and part exploration—think real-world treasure hunt, after dark.

    🗺️ How the Sturgeon Moon Hydrant Hunt Works

    Format: Score-O (find controls in any order)

    Time Limit: 1 hour

    Goal: Find as many controls as possible

    Scoring:

    Each control = 5 points

    1-point penalty per minute over the time limit

    What’s Provided:

    High-quality course maps

    Reflective controls with manual punches. Loaner compasses

    Teams or individuals will navigate 20 controls spread throughout the Village of Yellow Springs and the historic Antioch College campus—urban streets, pathways, and campus scenery all come alive at night.

    After the race, head over to the fire station for pancakes, then make your way back to Main Street for shopping, food trucks, and more starting at 10am. Then, the Cedar Fest parade rolls through at 1pm. The 5k is just one of the activities happening throughout the village this weekend!

    Race begins at Chillicothe St. and Main St.
