The 6.4 mile West Side Quarry is the third race in the FXBG Trail Series. Similar to the 5k, runners will start along the Beach trail next to the Rappahannock River — familiar terrain to those of you in the series.
Midway through, the course delivers its defining feature: one main climb that asks you to dig a little deeper. It’s steady and honest — enough to get your heart rate up and your legs working — but manageable with smart pacing. Crest the top, and you’re rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and a renewed stride.
The later miles roll and weave through a series of undulating hills, keeping things playful and engaging all the way to the finish. With a total elevation gain of 426 feet, this race offers a balanced challenge — approachable yet dynamic — perfect for runners who enjoy a mix of flow, focus, and just the right amount of grit.
The 2026 VBLA Ocean Swim Series 3K or Mile Swim is the second of three races on the VBLA Ocean Swim Series Calendar. The 3K moves the distance from the 1 Mile range closer to 2 miles while the 1-Mile option can test improvement from the first race (although every race is different in open water - that's the beauty of it!) The VBLA Swim Series is meant for experienced ocean racers and novice open water swimmers alike. Come find out how much fun it is to race without lines to guide you, rather a community of motivated swimmers ready to race and enjoy open water fun together!

Main street offers an eclectic mix of restaurants, shopping and nightlife while the surrounding area offers great hiking, biking, fishing and more.

In 1999, The Allen Stone Braveheart Memorial Races started as the Braveheart Run Swim Run, to benefit the American Heart Association. Allen Stone, a local Navy SEAL, and friend of the race committee, raced and won his age group. Tragically, Allen died in a SEAL training accident just a few months later. The race committee decided to rename the race in Allen's memory. Since then, the race has added a 5K and a kids 1 mile race to have something for everyone in the family.
This event has raised over $1 million for our charities, the Navy SEAL Foundation, Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, and the Virginia Beach Lifesaving Association while honoring those that have made the ultimate sacrifice and their families.
