Welcome to the 2026 New York State Bicycle Racing Association (nysbra) Individual Time Trial Championships!
16August26 in Tioga Center, NY
Fees: I've kept the same low fees this year that I've had since (at least) 2014! By comparison, all USA Cycling fees have significantly increased over that time, and most have more than doubled. To encourage early registration that will ease my stress levels, the 2014 early discount prices are in effect until 2 months before the event, the 2014 regular prices ($5 more) are in effect until 1 month before the event, and then prices go up another $5. For most adults that means $27, $32, and $37. No refunds, but register early and save! The BikeReg fee (approx $3) is now shown on the reg page. This year I added USAC's $5.99 insurance fee to the registration fee instead of adding it to your bill during checkout.
Eligibility: Your eligibility for the NYSBRA Championships is based on having an annual USA Cycling (USAC) license and NY state of residence as shown on your USAC license as pulled from BikeReg! All riders must have a valid USAC or purchase a one-day license on BikeReg while registering. Everyone is welcome to race, to include out-of-state, out-of-country (welcome to all Canadians!), and one-day-license riders. However, only NY state resident annual license holders are eligible for the NYSBRA State Championship medals and jersey.
Please make sure your USAC License Number and correct address are in your BikeReg profile! Your annual license must be verified via BikeReg (or on site if necessary) before your start. If I verify your license in advance you only need to say your name at registration to get your bib!
NYSBRA Special Rule for Racing by USAC Ability Categories 1-5/Novice: For one-day TTs you may enter any category equal to or higher than the "road" category shown on your license. This allows, for example, talented triathletes who don't race on the road (so would be "Cat 5/Novices") to compete at a higher USAC race category, according to their true ability. If you want to do this just override the category restriction in BikeReg. I'll approve it.
Racing by Age: Your age must be in the age range specified for your category (i.e., you cannot race down in age for Masters or race up in age for Juniors).
Entering Multiple Categories (without having to actually race!): If you fancy a chance to win in a second (or third...) category, each additional entry is only $20 (TTT excluded as it is already cheap). If the two races are the same distance this would allow you to race one time and be in the results for more than one field; e.g., Cat 4 Men and Masters 45+ Men, or Cat 3 Women and Cat 4 Women and Masters 55+ Women. You get two or more chances to win! You could be both a Masters and a Category champion! Note, though, that if you podium in multiple categorized races we will only place you in the higher category; e.g., you can't be both the Cat 3 and Cat 4 Champion. Just the Cat 3 Champion!
If the two races are different distances you can still enter more than one category for $20 each additional, but you will have to actually race twice (i.e., you must race each distance; e.g., race 20km to win Junior (Wo)Men 17-18 then race 40km to beat the all the Cat 4s. Come on. You can do it.). Contact me for a coupon code.
NOTE: Since BikeReg treats each category as a unique entry, BikeReg will have you sign a waiver for each entry.
For all riders actually racing more than once, I will assign start times as far apart as possible. For example, if you are doing a 40km individual TT and after that you are joining your BFFs for a TTT, you'll start among the first 40km riders and your team will start near the end of the teams at the end of the day. This will give you max time to get back and at least quaff an energy drink. We won't let them start without you!
The Course: is a favorite that we have used many times (most recently in 2011, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2022) with staging located at the Tioga Center Central School, 5th Avenue, Tioga Center. The course heads west on Rt. 17c towards Waverly either 5km, 10km, or 20km to the turnaround and returns to Tioga Center. Rt. 17c is a mostly flat course on a lightly-traveled state highway with good pavement and very wide (6’-8’) shoulders. Open the map. View on Strava.
Start Times: THE FIRST RIDER WILL START EXACTLY AT 10:01am! The Good Ol' Digital Master Clock at the start line will be synchronized with "cell phone time" and is our official race clock.
I will email all registrants their start time by midnight, Friday, 14Aug and I will post the master start list and Race-Day Technical Guide here. I will also email the link to everyone.
Your bib number will be your start time (in minutes) after 10am; e.g., if you are bib number 50 you start at 10:50am (10am + 50 minutes) and if you are bib number 80 you start at 11:20am (10am + 80 minutes). In this past, the last riders started about noon. For guidance only, here is the 2022 Start List and 2022 Race-Day Technical Guide. They won't change much! If you want to see what times you need to aim for, check out previous year NYSBRA State Championship Results here (enter “New York State Time Trial” in the search box)
Registration: Please pre-register on-line because pre-registration is much easier for everyone and you will know your exact start time ahead of time. All riders must sign the standard USAC Waiver during on-line registration. Please make sure your USAC license is "valid" and not "pending." You may purchase a one-day license for $15 during checkout on BikeReg but you will not be eligible for championship medals.
Day of registration will be accepted for $75. You will start when we can slip you in, as close to your category as possible.
Helmets: are required for everyone on a bike (helmets are not required on trainers), please. Sleeveless jerseys or sleeveless tri-suits are legal.
Junior Equipment: Juniors 9-14 must ride mass-start legal bikes (i.e., no aerobars, no cow horns) and wheels with at least 16-spokes and no wheel covers as per USAC rule 1I5. USAC's rationale for this rule is to limit how much money parents have to spend until their little speed demon reaches racing age 15. Pointy helmets, skinsuits, and colorful booties are just fine.
Paracycling / Adaptive Cycling: We welcome all para and adaptive athletes to compete in the NYSBRA Championships! Due to the diversity of athletes and their equipment, I will consult with the registered riders during the week before the event to determine the NYSBRA Championship categories offered on race day. For example, in 2019 the participants agreed to sub-divide this category and award champions for "Para Open Women" and "Para Open Men." Please contact me with any questions and/or suggestions. I'm flexible!
Eddy Merckx Equipment: Yes, this is a NYSBRA Championship Category! You may not be able to ride like him so the idea is to at least ride what he rode. However, since most of you probably don’t own steel frames, rat traps, and 32-spoke wheels, we’ll let you ride the same equipment that the juniors 9-14 can ride (see above). Don't let the little ones show you up! This means a mass-start legal bike (i.e., no aerobars, no cow horns) and wheels with at least 16-spokes and no wheel covers. We encourage standard road helmets, road jerseys, shorts with a real leather pad, and anything made of wool. We will allow but heckle you if you use a pointy helmet, skinsuit, and booties unless of course you just finished a previous event and didn’t have time to change because doing two events in a row is exactly what Eddy would do. He would also win both of them, so what are you afraid of? NOTE: I may split this field into more than one champ category if registration justifies it; e.g., into "Eddy
Merckz Men" and "Eddy Merckx Women."
Team Time Trial (TTT): This is not a championship event because the NYSBRA TTT Champs is 17July on Grand Island, near Buffalo. However, team TTs are a lot of fun! Focus on just the TTT or ride a second time with your friends! There are no prizes but we'll have podiums for up to nine categories based on team size (2, 3, and 4-rider teams) as well as gender mix (all men, all women, or mixed).
TTT start times will be planned to maximize time between events for anyone riding earlier in the day. No additional "second race" discount for TTT (it is already super cheap; although the early discounts apply and the max you'll pay is only $20!). All riders need to wear a bib number. Please call out your team name to the officials at the finish line to assist with scoring!
o 4 riders, time taken on 3rd rider
o 3 riders, time taken on 2nd rider
o 2 riders, time taken on 1st rider.
Awards: Podium ceremonies will take place approximately once an hour starting about 11am . I do them as soon as possible after results are final so you can get on the road home, so listen to the bullhorn in the parking lot! There will be two ceremonies for each field; the first ceremony is for the top three finishers overall, and then we'll have a NYS podium ceremony for the top 3 NY resident riders with annual licenses. For most fields all three riders on the two podiums will be the same. There are no prizes for the first podium but the latter ceremony will award Gold-Silver-Bronze NYSBRA Championship medals and have a photo opportunity to recognize our new State Champion standing on the top step wearing the NYSBRA championship jersey! Due to lack of funding from USA Cycling, NYSBRA can no longer provide championship jerseys for free. Instead, champions will receive an link to the Vie13 website to purchase their own jersey for ~$60 during the week immediately after the race. Jerseys
will then drop-ship directly to the champions within about 30 days.

East of Tioga Center: Take Route 17/I-86 west to Rt. 17c Owego exit. Follow signs to Rt. 17c west through downtown Owego and proceed ~7miles west to Tioga Center.

Peasantman is brought to you by First Knight Racing - managed by certified USAT Race Director/Official Joe McMahon. It's an officially sanctioned USA Triathlon event that takes place on the third Sunday of every August at Indian Pines Park in Penn Yan, right in the heart of the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York.
Our own 'Steel Distances' are just slightly longer than traditional triathlon distances, due to a longer bike course.
Since 2013, Peasantman has contributed over $44,000 to several organizations in the Penn Yan area. Most of these organizations are present on race day helping to bring you this event!
THE CNY TRIATHLON CLUB PRESENTS
The 2026 Caz Triathlon
August 16th, 2025
The CNY Triathlon Club was formed in January 2000 to serve triathletes and other multisport enthusiasts of all abilities by providing support, education, group workouts, and events to encourage and promote triathlon as a sport that is part of a healthy lifestyle.
We have had kid's tri training in the past and are continuing with a kid's tri program. Parents are welcome to be involved and help run the kid's training. In the last two years we have been providing more support for high schoolers by adding a high School Sprint Wave at the Caz Tri. The sponsor, CNY Triathlon Club also can provide clothing, bikes and equipment for high schoolers. Girls have a special advantage as 40 universities and colleges now have NCAA Women's Triathlon teams and offer scholarships for female triathletes!
Donate: There is a high school triathlete program donation button where all donations will be directed toward high schools triathletes for nutrition and wellness training,, swim lessons, group training, equipment and more.
Most of that funding for these programs comes directly from individuals who have registered for the Cazenovia Triathlon! Cazenovia Tri is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the CNY Triathlon Club.
The Life Worth Living 5K Run and Walk at Abbott Farms is an event to raise awareness to prevent suicide.
The 5K course is open to all, whether looking for a competitive race or just a fun time. Certainly unique, the road and trial course will run through various areas on the farm. The 5K course will include the roads through the housing development behind Abbott Farms. The course also includes a very special memorial orchard remembering over 80 victims with local ties who lost their battle to suicide. Not your average race! Runners will be timed utilizing chips.
At Abbott Farms, there will be ice cream, bakery goods, berry picking and a variety of other family fun activities. And don't forget to visit the baby animals in the barnyard. The Cider House Grille will be open with a full menu of grilled entrees and treats. Abbotts is well known for providing lots of fun on the farm for families and kids!
The event is in memory of Zach Helfrich, a former employee of Abbotts. All who knew Zach remember his smile, sense of humor and kindness. Zach had just turned 19 and graduated Baker High School. He was headed to Virginia Tech and accepted into the prestigious Corps of Cadets, US Army ROTC. Military service was his lifelong dream. We were incredibly proud of him. Sadly, Zach unexpectedly took his life on the morning of August 16, 2019. Let's celebrate our love for Zach as well as others who lost their lives to suicide, at the Life Worth Living day at Abbotts. With your help, we can raise awareness to prevent other similar tragedies.
The Zach Helfrich Memorial Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to build awareness, support effective treatment programs and reduce the prevalence of suicide among young people in our communities. To date, we have raised over $170,000, all of which has stayed in our community to support programs to reduce suicides among our teenagers and young adults. Among other things, we have established an endowment in Zach Helfrich's name to support the Upstate Medical University's Psychiatry High Risk Program which is a highly effective outpatient treatment center for adolescents and young people at high risk of suicide. They have phenomenal success and are truly saving young lives. We are also supporting the new Mental Health Respite Program at Elmcrest Children's Center in Syracuse which provides residential care for children and teens in crisis.

Twisted Branch Trail Run The Twisted Branch Trail has everything you are looking for in an ultra running experience. This is a classic, old school point to point trail that’s rooted in the Finger Lakes region of NY. Wind your way through some of the most brutal & beautiful places you can find. This is the perfect summer destination race. Bring your family and explore the trails, parks, wineries, breweries & lakes. You know you want to run long, now it’s time to get Twisted. This is the kind of race you bring your family to. The kind you can build a vacation around. There’s no nicer place to be in August than in the Finger lakes. This race is hard. Do not let its
course profile fool you. While this is a runnable trail, this is not a groomed park trail. This unforgiving course challenges the strongest of runners both mentally and physically. Sections that appear to be flat on the elevation profile may be the hardest miles you do all day. Don't underestimate how difficult it will be to finish this race. The trail is nearly 95% single track, winding its way through some of the most wild places you can find. Places you didn’t think existed in New York. The course has a widely varied trail surface that includes well maintained single and double track trail, grassy single track, dirt roads and a bit of asphalt too, on a course that is extremely "runnable" as trail courses go. - Each fixed distance (100K/50K/25K) race lap or loop is almost exactly 8 miles long. Two ascents and one long descent traverse the upland forest. These steep shaded trails have some roots, ruts, and stones. The trails in the upper meadows are mostly dirt, grass, rolling, and unshaded. - The uppers meadows are referred to as the Serengeti. The 3+ miles of running around the Serengeti per each course loop can make for a challenging summer ultra if Mother Nature offers a warm sunny
day. - The lower lake section of trails are shaded, have a few roots and are generally flat. - Overall, the course lends itself to quick running without technical hikes. - The 100K race is 8 total course laps and the 50K race is 4 course loops. The 25K race is 2 course loops. - The 12 Hour timed race course is different than the 100K/50K/25K loop. The 12 Hour timed loop will be run in a clockwise 3 mile loop around the Green and Round Lakes only. All timed racers will continually circle only the lower, lakes portion of the course as many times as they can. Amenities All registered entrants will receive a t-shirt to their registration requested size, if you have registered at least 14 days prior to the race. Then we'll fill t-shirt sizes with extras that we ordered that we have on hand. - For 2026 we will once again offer a "small" size race shirt, in either female and male genders. BE WARNED, IF THE SMALL T-SHIRT THAT YOU ORDER IS TOO SMALL, we will not be able to trade you up to a medium
t-shirt at either packet pick up or on race day. - Race finishers will receive a finishers medal, either a GLER coffee cup or pint glass, and a bumper sticker decal for your finished race distance. Podium Finishers. - We'll recognize the top three finishers of each race distance and the top three female finishers of each race. - Age group winners. We will recognize the 1st Place (ONLY) Female and Male age group winner for each racing distance in our four age group Divisions: Open + 39 and under; Masters = 40-49; Grand Masters = 50-59; Super Grand Masters = 60-69; Ambassadors = 70 and older. - This is a strongly supported race with 2 stocked aid stations and 1 unmanned water drop; racers are always within 3.75 miles of the next aid on the course. - The course is marked to the best of the race team's ability prior to the start of the race, including marked turns as well as "confidence" markers every 100 to 200 meters. - Participants and crew can position their own bags, coolers, chairs &
canopies (10'x10' max) beside the McHenry-Main Aid Station in and around Race HQ at Tulip Hill Picnic Area wherever they find space, first come, first serve._ The GLER Race team always marshals and distributes added items for race finishers beyond just their finisher's medals. Some cool finisher awards and gear. - The GLER Race team will also continue to hold our GLER raffle; each registered racer has one raffle ticket by registering for the race and can purchase additional raffle tickets.- Stadelman-Hyer Midway Aid Station will once again be located at the 4-mile mark on the far side of the Serengeti. Course Time Limit The Race clock will be a full 15 hours with the 100K starting at 0600AM. The 50K race starts at 0700AM. The GLER 12 Hour Race starts at 7AM and finishes at 7PM. The 25K race starts at 0800AM. All fixed distance racers (100K, 50K and 25K) will have until 9:00PM to complete their race. All fixed distance racers must start their final course loop by 6:45PM. Any racer starting
their final course loop after 6:30PM must have their own light before they start their final loop. A racer may have a "running buddy" for their final loop when starting at 6:45PM or later. Running buddies may not "mule" food nor beverages for the racer they are running with. The 12 Hour race clock will start at 7AM and finish at 7PM. All 12-hour racers have the full 12 hours to complete as many loops in that 12-hour period as possible. Any 12-Hour Race final loop completed after 7PM WILL NOT COUNT. Event Description WINONA'S BACKYARD provides a great opportunity to challenge yourself in a unique event unlike others you may have participated in before. The event appeals to all types of runners, perfect for reaching a new milestone. It's a great opportunity to get in a long training run with support, cover a marathon or 50 mile or even, if you have what it takes.....be the LAST RUNNER STANDING.WINONA's BACKYARD ULTRA is a unique event for runners of all abilities, but only the strongest among them will be the LAST RUNNER STANDING. The race will be begin at 8:00 a.m. and each runner will have exactly one hour to complete the 4.167 mile loop course. If a runner fails to return within the hour, they are eliminated from the race. Runners can complete the course at whatever pace they choose, but they MUST finish the loop and be at the starting line to start the next race within 60 minutes. A new 4.167 mile race will begin every hour on the hour (8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and so on…)
until only one runner is left standing. If a runner fails to make it to the start line at the top of the hour before the gate is closed, that runner is eliminated. What will your strategy be? Will you run the loop hard and reserve time for rest, or take your time, conserve your energy on the trail and only take a few minutes to rest before the next loop begins. This event may not favor the speedster, but the runner who is slow and steady. Race HQ is at the CCC Camp at the Winona State Forest near Mannsville, NY. The venue is very convenient, only 6 miles from Interstate 81. The start/finish area, aid station, portajohns and parking lot are all located here. There will be multiple pop up tents, picnic tables and space to have your own individual setup. Runners are allowed a crew but pacers are a major no-no. You are welcome to bring a tent and individual setup but we encourage you to keep it reasonable (don't bring the kitchen sink!). Power outlets are not available, so please plan on
bringing your own power source, if needed. We will have a full aid station at the start/finish area. Participant Milestones We want the WINONA BYU to motivate participants to challenge themselves to reach a new personal milestone. When you earn a milestone it will be listed in the race results posted on the website. You will also receive a milestone sticker that can be placed on your DNF souvenir at the conclusion of your race. The Lapper - Completing 1 Lap.Beyond a Half Marathon - Completing 4 laps.Beyond a Marathon - Completing 7 laps.Beyond the 50K - Completing 8 laps. The Fifty - Completing 12 laps, 50 miles24 Hours - Complete 24 laps, 100 miles Backyard Format Rules The Backyard format is simple: 100 miles divided into 24 hours give you 4.167 miles for a "yard" (lap). Every hour, on the hour, a new yard will start and you must finish within the hour and be back in the starting corral for the next one to stay in the run. Complete as many as you can, last runner standing wins. Runners and
crew will be able to set up a personal area with chairs, tents, etc. around the start/finish course-line area for personal aid, gear, and rest between yards (not during). Personal tent location on a first come-first served format. We will give a 3-minute, 2-minute, and 1-minute warning to be inside the starting corral for the next yard. All runners are required to be in the starting corral before the top of the hour. Failure to line up in the starting corral will result in the disqualification of the runner. Participants must start a new yard at the sound, and continue out on the course (not back to their tent, etc.).Once you are on the course, you are not allowed any aid from your crew or any other individual. No non-competitors on the course (including eliminated runners). Except for restrooms, competitors may not leave the course until each loop is completed. There will be one common aid station that you will pass by, located near the staging area. This is your only aid until after you
finish your "yard". You must be on and stay on the course unless you need to use the bathroom. No artificial aids (including trekking poles) are allowed.Once you complete the yard, and assuming you have finished within the hour, you may use the bathroom, eat, drink, sleep, ponder the next yard, etc., but you MUST be back in the start corral at the beginning of the hour to continue into the next hour’s yard.Runners will continue until ONE runner completes a FINAL lap. (i.e. If there are two runners left and one does not complete the loop, then the one that completed the loop will be declared the winner). No pacers whatsoever. You must checkout with the race director once you can not complete a yard or decide not to begin the next yard. WINONA volunteers and crew will provide aid at the start/finish line. Only active runners and crew may leave personal gear set up in the grass area at the start/finish, there is no camping or campfires allowed in this area. Included in Registration WINONA FOREST

Join us for a historic 10K Road Race along the Oswego River starting in Phoenix NY. This course will quickly become one of your favorites. This race had a huge following in the mid 80's through early 90's, and we'll stick with the original course. It's flat, fast, and beautiful as it parallels the Oswego River for the entire loop course. You'll start at Lock Island Park and immediately cross the Oswego River on the Phoenix Bridge. You'll then run north along the river on Pendergast Road, glimpsing the river between open fields, woods, and homes along the way. At the half way point you'll turn right to make a second crossing of the river at the single lane Hinmansville Bridge built in 1915. A short jaunt through the woods on a packed dirt road will connect you to River Road to run back into the village of Phoenix and a finish at Lock 1. This would be a great prep race for your fall half marathon or marathon!
Funds raised will go toward supporting the Schroeppel Historical Society.
Less than a week remains for your chance to win a Nathan Zipster Max Running Belt. Size: Unisex Small. Register by 11:59 PM on March 16th for your chance to win. The lucky runner will be announced on St. Patrick's Day!
Earlybird registration just $40 through April 14, 2026! Race fee will increase to $50 on April 15th, and $60 two weeks prior to the race. Sign up now and save!
A new race presented by Miles & Macros:
Which way you start your loop will depend on your bib number and a coin toss. Once you complete the loop and are back at the aid station, you will go out the way you just came in and complete your next loop the opposite way.
This ensures safety and camaraderie. This also adds a different kind of challenge.
How many loops can you get in in 3 hours?!!?
