All swag created for this event will be made locally in an effort to stimulate the local economy. Pictured below is the stuff from 2024.
But everyone knows the real prize is finishing the event, supporting a great cause and getting to see some of those race photos which will be available for free after the race day.

If you plan on picking up your race packet on race morning please give yourself ample time to do so.

There are no refunds/bib transfers for this event. This event will happen rain or shine. If you aren't registered by May 28th we cannot guarantee a specific t-shirt size for you.

Wear clothing if you wish or join in with most of our competitors and run in the nude!
Our 5K "FUN RUN" is run entirely on our grounds, rain or shine. We are providing a finish line timing display so you will know your time.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Here is a map of our downtown core. There are multiple areas for parking and then walk to the destination. There is street parking but just a reminder that it is July 1 so make sure you park on the appropriate side of the road. You will not be able to park on the route of the race.
Kids dash will leave at 9:00am sharp. The race will start at 100 Laird Ave in front of Fort Malden under a giant red arc. The race is 1km and kids will run towards the Waterfront Ice cream store and back. They do not have to run the entire distance if they are young, we understand some kids love to participate, but cannot make it the full distance. As long as they are wearing their bib crossing the finish line they will receive a medal.
Adults map is below. You will start at 100 laird under the arc and run down Dalhousie to the firefighters spraying then turnaround and run straight back. (Please run on the right side of the road, when the turnaround comes we do not want any collisions to occur.)
YES, WRACE is a not-for-profit organization that times run/walk/wheel events. This being said it is chipped timing. The timer starts the second you hear the horn. Walkers will start 5 min after runners begin but still receive an accurate time.
YES! All are welcome. Dogs must be on a leash and be comfortable in large crowds. This also can be a loud event. Dogs should be comfortable with loud sudden noises.
Yes, You will just have to have their first and last name and confirmation number.
Please attach your bib visibly on the front of your body. This helps us give an accurate race time.
No, Kids Dash participants will not get shirts. Like everything costs have gone up. We want to keep the race affordable and fun. Kids will receive a medal and some swag in their race packet as well.

Description
For over five decades, the Volksläufe has brought together runners from all walks of life, making it far more than a race; it’s a cherished community tradition. The Volksläufe, meaning
“The People’s Race” in German, embraces the spirit of family, friendship, and fitness, inviting participants to a fun and meaningful celebration.
In 2026, we celebrate something even bigger.
As our nation marks its 250th anniversary, this year’s Volksläufe carries an extra layer of pride and purpose. Hosted by the Frankenmuth Jaycees, this Fourth of July tradition will honor 250 years of American spirit with every mile, every cheer, and every finish-line moment, all while continuing our mission to support charitable causes close to our community’s heart.
Our 51st Annual race will feature the traditional 5K, 10K, and Half-Marathon, guiding runners through Frankenmuth’s picturesque Bavarian streets, scenic countryside, and along the peaceful Cass River. And for our youngest runners and those new to racing, we proudly offer the 2K Fun Run, a shorter route filled with the same high spirits and patriotic energy as the longer distances.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best, running in red, white, and blue with friends, or starting a new family tradition, the Volksläufe has something for everyone.

Live entertainment
Food vendors
A bustling community marketplace
Family-friendly activities and music
And of course, the spectacular Frankenmuth fireworks display will light up the night sky as we kick off Independence Day weekend.
There is no better way to begin America’s 250th birthday celebration than surrounded by community, music, and the unmistakable tradition of a Fourth of July in Frankenmuth.
As always, the Frankenmuth Jaycees’ mission goes far beyond the race. Every dollar raised helps fund the July 3rd fireworks display and supports charitable initiatives throughout the year. When you run Volksläufe, you are investing directly back into the community.
After crossing the finish line on July 4th, stick around for post-race festivities filled with food, music, and celebration.
The Volksläufe is about people: racers, families, friends, sponsors, and our incredible volunteers. Together, we will make this 51st edition, and America’s 250th birthday, unforgettable.

The Flag Carrying Division: Participants in this patriotic category will run or walk their 5K proudly bearing a mounted 3 x 5 American flag from start to finish.
Hot Dog Eating Division: It’s simply not the Fourth of July without hot dogs, and those who choose this challenge — up to 20 competitors — will try to chow down on four dogs in 76 seconds, then get their 5K underway. Consider it our version of the world-famous Nathan’s Hot-Dog Eating Contest, which is held annually in New York City every Independence Day.
Don't have the time for 5K? Try our timed 1-Mile Fun Run! A fun, friendly course awaits runners and walkers of all ages who want to show their Firecracker fervor but with a little less mileage. Whether you choose to make it competitive or relaxed, enjoy this frolic through downtown on the 4th of July!
Our littlest firecrackers are invited to make a bang all their own in our Kids’ 200-Meter Dash. Open to competitors ages 8 and under, our Kids’ Dash offers children the opportunity soar like eagles down Liberty Street, completing their race at the same finish line as Mom or Dad!
Kids can continue celebrating Independence Day at the corner of State and William, where they can take part in the Epic Races float in the Ann Arbor Jaycees' 4th of July parade (accompanied by a parent or guardian)!
The Firecracker 5K is walker friendly!
Sunglasses and medals for all participants in all divisions!
Zero Waste
