We’re excited to announce that the 2026 Run Drugs Out of Town will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Macomb Community College, Center Campus.

This annual event is more than just a 5K run or walk—it’s a powerful movement of hope, unity, and recovery. Together, we stand with individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder, break the stigma surrounding addiction, and strengthen our community through compassion and connection.

Gather your friends, family, and colleagues to form a team, run or walk in honor of someone you love, and help us raise awareness for recovery. Every step you take makes a difference!

Registration Includes:

  • Entry to the 5K run/walk

  • 2026 Run Drugs Out of Town T-Shirt (First Come, First Serve)

    Welcome! We are Kayla Kelley and Elle Shimmell, students at the Gene L. Klida Utica Academy for International Studies, and the organizers of the Miles for Miracles 5K run created as part of our Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) graduation requirement. This event is dedicated to raising funds for Corewell Health Children’s and honoring the patients, families, and medical professionals who provide compassionate care to children in our community. Inspired by our own medical experiences and the stories of those close to us, this project is deeply meaningful. Our hope is to bring people together to support a cause that impacts so many lives. Whether you choose to run, walk, or cheer from the sidelines, your participation helps build a stronger and more caring community.

    Children's Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of pediatric patients by raising funds for children's hospitals across North America. Each year, 170 partner hospitals provide the finest medical care, life- saving research and preventative education to help over 32 million kids overcome diseases and injuries of every kind. Corewell Health Children's has been the only CMN affiliated hospital in Southeast Michigan since 1988. For our fundraiser, 100% of proceeds will stay local to help kids who are treated at Corewell Health Children's.

    • Child Life Services: Specialists who reduce stress and fear for hospitalized children through therapy and support.

    The Philip S. Killoran Chapter of the National Honor Society at Sterling Heights High School is partnering with Friends of Foster Kids (FoFK) to host a 5K Race Walk /Run.

    Our vision is to build community through an outdoor event emphasizing fitness and fun while creating awareness and raising funds for foster kids. It is a fun event boasting a door prize drawing, a live DJ, a food truck, yard games, a spring craft, face painting, and a surprise celebrity announcer. Come meet Friends of Foster Kids, Impact One, and the Macomb DHHS workers. Learn more about foster kids in our area and programs to support them as well as families that host them.

    Race Day will be held at Sterling Heights High School located at 12901 15 Mile Rd. Sterling Heights, MI. 48312.

    • Registration/ Check-in begins at 8 AM

    • Race/ Walk times begin at 10 AM

    The 5K Walk/ Run is geared toward the inclusion of families of all age ranges, abilities, and numbers. The course will be an out & back. Strollers welcome, no pets, please. A water station will be available at the halfway marker.

    Welcome to the Pet Rescue Run!! This 5k is for animal lovers and 5k enthusiast. Please join us at the beautiful Columbus County Park in Columbus Michigan. This is an officially timed trail run/walk that includes 100% grass and dirt trails. You will encounter rocks, roots, an elevation incline/decline of approximately 55 feet and possible muddy conditions. This is a rain or shine event.

    Want to participate, but not sure about completing a 5k? Then the 1 Mile Fun Run option (not officially timed) with minimal elevation change is for you!!

    Teams

    You can participate as an individual or a team. Why join a team? Make an impact!! Friendly competition, race against other teams to be the top fundraiser for bragging rights! Top fundraising team captain will receive a commemorative mug. Every dollar raised goes to animal rescues in Michigan.

    Our Purpose

    The Pet Rescue Run has been initiated as a way to honor the legacy of our loved one, JoAnne Aebi. JoAnne had an unwavering passion for animals and a deep desire to make a positive impact on their well-being. This annual fundraiser supports J & J Furry Friend Foundation, a 501c(3) and will assist in carrying out her unfinished work. The mission of this organization is to help Michigan based animal rescues by way of providing much needed supplies and funds. Proceeds from this event will go directly toward this cause. In the past two years we've raised over $10,000 that has assisted numerous different local rescues.

    Prizes

    Enter to win a $50 gift card and other fun prizes by bringing a bag of pet food, dog treats, dog toys, bleach, paper towels, or pet bed. The more items you bring the more chances you have to win.

    After the race, please join us for award prize announcements for 1st & 2nd male and female finishers as well as age category prizes for the 5K. All Finishers will receive a medal after the race. Post race water and snack provided by Marsack and Marshall Real Estate Team. Cupcakes provided by family to celebrate what would have been JoAnne's 54th birthday.

    Race Check-in

    Race check-in from 9am-10am. 5k race begins at 10:30am, 1mile shortly after.

    • Friendly dogs welcome.

    • Jogging/running stroller only at your own discretion

    All participants who register before 4/15/2026 will receive an event t-shirt. For registrations received after 4/15/2026, t-shirts are available on a first come, first serve basis, while supplies last. If you DO NOT want a shirt, please select "opt out" or no shirt from the drop down menu when registering.
