Every journey starts with a first step — and walking absolutely counts.

The Starting Line is the opening event of the Zero Dark Thirty Run Series, a progressive experience designed to take participants from their first mile to a full marathon over the course of the season.

This event is intentionally beginner-friendly. You can run, jog, walk, or mix all three. Whether this is your very first race or your first step back in awhile, this event is about showing up — not speed or finish times.

All proceeds benefit the Zero Dark Thirty Foundation, a veteran-led nonprofit focused on rebuilding purpose, resilience, and community through movement and connection.

    DISTANCES

    1 Mile (Series Distance )

Perfect for walkers, beginners, families, and first-time participants. Walking is fully encouraged and welcomed.

    Optional Distances

    5K (3.1 miles)

    10K (6.2 miles)

All distances are walk-friendly, fully timed, and open to participants of all ability levels.

    WHO THIS EVENT IS FOR

    Walkers and first-time participants

People returning to movement after time away

    Veterans and first responders

    Families and friends

Experienced runners who want a meaningful season-long challenge

If you can walk a mile, you can do this event.

    THE ZERO DARK THIRTY ETHOS

“Zero Dark Thirty” represents discipline, early mornings, and choosing to show up — even when it feels uncomfortable.

This series is about progress over pace. No pressure. No cutoff times. Just forward movement.

    WHAT YOU GET

Finalized Results with Awards and Prizes at the Gala

Finisher Military Challenge Coin (yes, walkers earn the same Military Challenge Coin)

    Event shirt

Access to the Zero Dark Thirty Run Series community

All runners will receive a race shirt and race medal.

Please note courses utilize the Boise Greenbelt system. Should we run the Greenbelt, the river can be unpredictable. Systems and entities that govern the local Greenbelt are constantly dealing with these challenges. Typical issues are created due to sidewalk construction, sinkholes, flooding, etc. During the run, you may encounter wildlife that may cause a delay in your progress and/or change in your planned route. Or you may cause your own delay to stop and listen to the amazing sounds this course creates.

    What’s the Serenata Shuffle?

The Serenata Shuffle is a fun, music-filled race along Boise’s Greenbelt. Choose between a timed 5K or a 1-Mile Fun Run, perfect for runners, walkers, and families.

Starting and finishing at Veterans Memorial Park, the course features live performances from Serenata Orchestra musicians along the way.

All registered participants receive a free event t-shirt and commemorative medallion. And don’t forget to keep your eyes on the prize—chase the Maestro along the course for a chance to win exclusive raffle prizes!

Early Bird pricing runs through January 11, with a final price increase on March 28.

This event is partner-sponsored by Fleet Feet Treasure Valley, supporting a great community-focused race experience.

Grab a few friends and save—groups of 3 or more get $3 off per person.

Packet pick-up will be on April 9th at Fleet Feet Nampa and April 10th at Fleet Feet Meridian.

    Who is Serenata Orchestra?

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit community orchestra with a mission to enrich the lives of our members and audiences while inspiring a lifelong passion for music. We proudly offer four engaging, lively, and family-friendly concerts each year—completely free of charge—to the citizens of the Treasure Valley.

While our concerts are free to attend, producing them comes with significant costs. Expenses such as rehearsal space, concert venues, music acquisition, and other essentials add up throughout the year. To support these efforts, in 2025, we introduced our annual fundraiser, the Serenata Shuffle, which is a 5-kilometer and 1-mile run/walk event.

Join us for the Serenata Shuffle or donate to help us continue bringing free, inspiring concerts to our community. Thank you for your support!

    Momentum becomes commitment.

The First Push is the second event in the Zero Dark Thirty Run Series — a progressive program designed to take participants from their first mile all the way to a full marathon.

At 6.2 miles, the 10K represents a shift. It’s where consistency turns into endurance. It’s where doubt gets replaced with discipline. It’s where participants begin to realize they are capable of more than they thought.

This event is run or walk friendly and designed to be supportive and encouraging for all ability levels.

All proceeds benefit the Zero Dark Thirty Foundation, a veteran-led nonprofit supporting veterans through movement, mentorship, and community.

Please join us on Saturday morning, May 23, for the 2026 Kick for Kenya 5K!

Run or walk for a cause - proceeds will be used to fund planning and execution of community development training and projects in rural southeastern Kenya in partnership with Kenya Kids (US-based nonprofit), the Touch Africa Child Education Project (TACEP, a Kenyan NGO), and other local Kenyan community partners. Funds raised will be invested where needed most, in particular to provide educational opportunities, improve public health, and address food and water insecurity. Our Kenyan partners' long-term vision includes construction and development of a community center with dedicated space for field staff offices, tutoring and counseling services, animal husbandry and agricultural demonstration plots, and hosting speakers/conferences for educational instruction and vocational training, as well as on-site housing for children or families in need and short-term international visitors.

    Race Notes:
