The Motts 8 Miler is the fourth race in the FXBG Trail Series. Get ready for a course that keeps you on your toes from start to finish. This trail race winds and weaves through constant twists and turns, demanding focus and rewarding quick feet. The singletrack flows in and out of the trees, with direction changes that keep every mile engaging and unpredictable.

Rolling hills define the rhythm of the day — short ups and downs that challenge your pacing and test your leg strength without ever feeling overwhelming. Just when you think you’ve settled in, the course reminds you to stay honest with another punchy rise or sweeping descent.

There’s one standout climb that anchors the course — the big effort of the day. It’s steady, sustained, and designed to make you work. Conquer it, and you’ll carry that momentum through the final winding miles, where the rollers continue to keep things lively all the way to the finish.

This is a race for runners who love movement, momentum, and a trail that never lets you switch to autopilot.

This family-friendly 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk will raise funds to enhance the quality and impact of student learning experiences in Spotsylvania County Public Schools (SCPS) through the Spotsylvania Education Foundation (SEF).

SEF is hosting both in-person and virtual options for the race this year! Participants will register to complete their 5K or 1 Mile Fun Run in-person (1 Mile in-person is for students ages 12 and under only) on September 12 or complete the Virtual 5K or 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk (both adults and students) at a location of your choosing during race weekend: September 11-13. Race bibs and t-shirts* will be available for pick up on September 10 and 11 and race morning. If the in-person portion is cancelled for any reason, all registrations will move to virtual.

*Registrations must be received by August 30 to guarantee a race t-shirt. There is no guarantee that participants will receive a t-shirt after August 30, 2026. Selection of size during registration does not guarantee a t-shirt.

The Motts Half Marathon is our fifth and final race in the FXBG Trail Series. This course takes runners on a full tour of the reservoir trail system, covering every corner of the winding network that surrounds the water. From the start line to the finish, you’ll experience the full character of the trails — flowing singletrack, constant twists and turns, and scenery that changes with every mile.

Rolling hills shape the rhythm of the course, keeping your legs engaged and your pacing honest. Along the way, runners will tackle five distinct climbs, totaling 946 feet of elevation gain, that add just the right amount of challenge. None are impossibly long, but together they demand steady effort and smart energy management.

The route never feels repetitive as it winds along the shoreline, through wooded sections, and across the undulating terrain that makes these trails so memorable. With a mix of climbs, flowing descents, and curving singletrack, this race is the ultimate reservoir adventure — a true showcase of the entire trail system.

Step up to the plate and join us for the Gus 5K, a family-friendly fun run inspired by everyone’s favorite mascot, GUS of the Fredericksburg Nationals! Whether you're sprinting like you're stealing home or jogging to enjoy the sights, this race is a celebration of community, baseball, and giving back.

• Start at the "First Base Line," near Virginia Credit Union Stadium, where Gus himself will send you off with his signature high-fives.

• Wind through the scenic streets of Fredericksburg, passing stations decked out in red, white and blue—just like Gus’s favorite gear.

• Cross the "Home Plate Finish Line" on the field at Virginia Credit Union Stadium, with cheering fans in the stands and music pumping through the speakers!

• Mascot Madness: Join Gus and his mascot pals for a pre-race warmup and photo ops.

• Team Spirit Stops: Volunteers in FredNats jerseys will keep you motivated with water, cheers and baseball-themed surprises along the course.

• Post-Race Celebration: After the race, enjoy ballpark snacks, games and a Gus-themed medal ceremony.
