    Get ready for an adrenaline-pumping extravaganza like no other! Join us on Thursday, August 20, as we celebrate the 18th anniversary of the Strong Kids Duathlon in Cobourg! This beloved summer event is proudly presented by the YMCA Northumberland!

    Plus, the Strong Kids Duathlon is not just a race; it raises funds too! And with the event expanding to the Campbellford Y, this year we are fundraising for:

    The essential Mothers of Newborns program. This invaluable, free program offers mothers and their babies a safe and supportive path to health and wellness. Promoting physical activity and fostering connections creates a vital network of support and belonging for mothers during that critical first year of their baby’s life. We currently serve over 60% of all new moms in Northumberland!

    Important Camp infrastructure and initiatives to expand programming and serve more children in Northumberland to gain confidence and thrive!

    Including sponsors, we have a goal to raise $10,000 in support of these critical efforts, helping local babies, kids, youth and families shine brighter.

    This event is not about winning awards. It is all about being active together and supporting each other! All participants will receive a finisher's ribbon!

    EVENT DETAILS: THURSDAY, AUGUST 20

    • Kids ages 3-15 can participate in this friendly, competitive event while family, friends, volunteers and YMCA staff cheer them on.

    • Check-in starts at 5:00pm; first race at 5:45pm; Over by 8:00pm.

    • Swim in Centennial Pool.

    • Run through Victoria Park.

    • Six different age groups, each with their own event start time and distance:

    • 3 years & under: Swim 15m | Run 200m

    • 4-5 years: Swim 15m | Run 200m

    • 6-7 years: Swim 50m | Run 500m

    • 8-9 years: Swim 100m | Run 1km

    • 10-11 years: Swim 150m | Run 1.5km

    • 12+ years: Swim 200m | Run 2km

    YMCA Membership is not required - any child aged 3 to 15 years can register and participate in this event. The event will happen, rain or shine.

    Join us for the Beaver Mile swim 4.3 mile run. Chose between the Otter Half mile swim, 1/4 mile Swan swim, Beaver Mile swim or the duckling waddle/1.5 mile kids event. Great warm up for your 70.3 half iron events this fall. The competitive swims and runs have Certified Lifeguards in the water. The course is clearly marked in pristine waters of beaver lake. Swimmers are to go clockwise around their buoy color. Red for Beaver Mile Swim, Yellow for Otter Half Swim, Blue for 1/4 mile Swan swim and Green for the Duckling waddle. The run course is the same as the beaver lake triathlon course so it is a good warm for the BLT. The course is clearly marked with orange route arrows, elevated signs and orange streamers. The map is posted on our website. Pre-race safety briefing will be on Thursday July 30, 2026, 7 pm Zoom recording. Package pick up will be at the Flatstick Grill at the Redmond Town Center 4-5 pm. Included in your registration is complementary Pasta Feed.

    Plenty of Parking at the Beaver Lake waterfront. Restrooms are available. Registration opens at 7 am. All athletes must be USAT members. One Day Bronze membership is available on our website. Must wear race provided swim cap, wetsuits will be allowed and encouraged if water temperature is less than 85 F. All registrants will get a classic deluxe dry release long sleeve Race T-Shirt. All finishers will receive a finisher medallion.

    📅 Event Schedule

    • 5:30 AM – Transition Area & Packet Pickup Open

    Please familiarize yourself with the course maps online prior to race morning.

    • Swim: A [Insert Distance, e.g., 400m] open-water swim. The course is marked by large buoys. Lifeguards and water safety personnel will be stationed throughout.

    • Bike: A [Insert Distance, e.g., 12-mile] loop on open roads. Helmets are mandatory and must be buckled before you leave the transition area.

    • Run: A [Insert Distance, e.g., 3.1-mile] flat course. Water and hydration stations will be available at every mile.

    🚗 Arrival & Parking Info

    • Arrive Early: We highly recommend arriving by 5:45 AM to allow ample time for parking, body marking, gear setup, and warm-up.

    • Road Closures: Please note that roads surrounding the main venue will close promptly at 6:45 AM for athlete safety. You will not be able to drive into the venue after this time.

    🪪 Waivers & ID (Don't Forget!)

    You must bring a valid photo ID to pick up your race packet.

    • Under 18: Must have a parent or legal guardian present to sign their race waiver.

    • USAT Members: If this is a USAT-sanctioned event, please have your USAT membership card (digital or physical) ready at check-in to avoid the one-day license fee.

    • Note: You cannot pick up a packet for another athlete; every participant must check in individually.

    🎒 What to Bring

    • Your Photo ID

    • Bike pump (it’s always good to check your tires race morning!)

    👟 What to Wear

    • Trisuit or Swimsuit: A tri-specific suit is best as it can be worn for the swim, bike, and run. Otherwise, form-fitting athletic wear that dries quickly works well.

    • Wetsuits: A final water temperature reading will be taken race morning to determine if wetsuits are legally permitted.

    • Race Bib: Must be worn facing forward on your shirt or a race belt during the run.

    ⚠️ Crucial Reminders

    • Body Marking: Stop by the body marking station immediately after picking up your packet so volunteers can write your race number on your arms and legs.

    • No Headphones: For your safety and the safety of those around you, headphones, earbuds, and personal audio devices are strictly prohibited on the course.

    • Trash: Please respect the venue and the community. Pack out what you pack in, and only discard trash at designated aid stations.

    The Race will be held on Saturday, September 26th, 2026 at Skyline Aquatic Center, located at 845 S Crismon Rd. Mesa, AZ 85208 on Crismon and Southern. The triathlon will consist of a 400 meter swim, 12 mile bike ride a 5km run. It is intended to be a safe and fun event for seasoned and first-time triathletes alike.

    You also have the option to register for the Duathlon, Relay, or Kids Splash n Dash to include the kids.

    7:30am Olympic triathlon

    7:45-8:00am Duathlon

    The Swim:

    1000m (horseshoe shaped) around pristine Robin Lake Beach(deep water entire swim but within 20 yards of shoreline first half of swim)

    The Bike:

    18 mile – 2 loop course out and back on Scenic Drive, Discovery Pkwy and Mountain Creek Dr. (we have returned to our orginal course now that construction is completed!)

    The Run:

    5 mile - including Robin Lake Circle and the paved bike trail. A VERY FAST course!

    Categories:

    Male/female: Under 14 then 15-19 in 5 year increments up to 70+

    Awards:

    Top 3 overall Male/Female and top 3 in each age group.

    Relay will be the top 3.

    Each participant will get a cool medal and t-shirt. Triathletes will be provided a swim cap.

    Parking:

    Parking is located at any location in the Robin Lake Beach parking area.

    Hotel accommodations:

    1-877-916-1725 ask for the Fitness Series rate. The Callaway Resort & Gardens' Mountain Creek Inn, The Southern Pine Cottages, The Mountain Creek Villas, and The Lodge and Spa.

    Directions to Callaway Gardens:

    From Atlanta take I-85 south to I-185. Take I-185 to exit 42 (Hwy 27). Go left on Hwy 27, 11 miles to Pine Mountain. In Pine Mountain, go through 3 stop lights (1 mile) to Callaway Resort & Gardens beach entrance on your right. Go 1 mile past Callaway Resort & Gardens beach entrance to the Mountain Creek Inn on your left.

    Spectators will be required to pay a discounted park entrance fee at the gate only on Saturday morning. Racers may provide their confirmation of registration for free park access.

    Packet Pick Up:

    Packet pick up for all races is located at the Circus Tent adjacent to Robin Beach Lake. The gates on HWY 27 will be open for easier access on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Packets may be picked:

    Friday:

    In the Circus Tent located at Callaway Resort & Gardens 4-6pm.

    Saturday:

    In the Circus Tent at Callaway from 5:30am-7:00am.

    All athletes MUST bring all of the following to Packet Pick Up:

    1. Government issue valid photo ID

    2. Valid USAT card (if a member)

    T-shirts are not guaranteed for those who register at packet pick-up or register race week

    If you registered online and purchased the one-day USAT membership you will only need to show your ID.

    USAT Rules and Regulations:

    The Callaway Gardens Olympic Triathlon/Duathlon is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. This will mean that all participants will need to be either an annual member of USAT or procure a one-day membership and sign a waiver. One-day memberships for 2024 are $15 which can be purchased during registration.

    Transition:

    Transition Area is in the Robin Beach Lake parking lot next to packet pick up. There is no bike drop off on Friday. (note Transition will be in parking lanes 1 and 2, next to the Circus Tent, this year). Bike check in is race day morning only.

    Swim Course 1000meters STARTS at 730AM:

    (Swim cap provided) Triathletes will be begin their day with a 1000m swim across and around the perimeter of Robin Beach Lake. Athletes will keep the swim buoys on their right and lifeguards will be located along the beach in addition to on the water in kayaks and paddle boards. Please abide by their instructions as they are there for your safety and to keep you on course.

    Duathletes:

    Duathlon 1st run course (2 miles) will begin at 745am from the Swim In in the Transition Area.

    Bike Course 18 miles:

    The 2-loop bike course. The bike course begins and ends inside Callaway Resort & Gardens. "Race in Progress" signs will be posted along this stretch and will be appropriately marked. However, this is OPEN to the public. Car traffic is very light and patrons are accustomed to bike traffic. Please follow all signs and volunteer instructions. Please be mindful that Callaway Resort & Gardens is graciously allowing us to use their property and drop all trash at water stations ONLY. Volunteers will be located on the course at critical intersections for your safety.

    Technical support: Brickyard Bike Co will be on the course to assist with emergency repairs whenever possible; but athletes are expected to be able to handle basic repairs (changing a flat, basic adjustments, etc) themselves. Please be self-sufficient.

    Run Course 5 mile:

    There will be 2 aid stations with (that will be available multiple times) nutrition/hydration opportunities. Nutritional options include Cerasport, coke, pickle juice, chips, limited gels, and water.

    Finish line: Will be at the Circus Tent.

    Weather:

    In the event of inclement weather…There are no “rain dates” for TriColumbusGA events. If the weather conditions are hazardous, Race Management has the right to change, eliminate parts of the course, or delay up to a point. However, if it is deemed too dangerous to race, the event will be canceled and there will be no refunds. Of course, since we are athletes ourselves, we will do everything in our power to have the event, but your safety is of our utmost concern.

    Happy Kids Duathlon Series

    The Happy Kids Duathlon is for boys and girls 5 to 14 years of age. Each race features a 1 mile run - 3 mile road bike - 1 mile run course.

    The Series will have five races in 2027. This is a great early-season race for young triathletes, cross country runners and cyclists.

    Event details and schedule

    The Happy Kids Duathlon #5

    Granite Beach, Folsom Lake SRA

    This race offers young athletes a chance to run and bike together in one-fun-race! The course is 1 mile run followed by a 3 mile road bike on roads closed to traffic and a final 1 mile run. Included for each competitor is a custom Happy Kids/TBF Running Hat and athlete goody bag with product samples, plus a post race meal of hot soup or chili with fruit, cookies and beverage.

    The March 20th Happy Kids Duathlon will be the final race in our five Race Happy Kids Duathlon Series for which we will have Series Champions in each 2-year age group (5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14). Finishers at each race will receive a TBF Finisher Button.

    To be eligible for the Series Championship athletes must race in all five of the events. Athletes racing in all five Happy Kids Duathlons will receive a Series Finisher Medal.

    Course Description:

    Run – The 1 mile run course will run on granite paths for a short loop before returning to the Transition Area where the bikes are set up.

    Bike - The bike course is course located entirely within the park on roads closed to traffic. It will exit the parking lot area at GraniteBeach then complete a 3 mile loop within the park.

    Run – The 1 mile run will run on granite paths, single track trails, with an aid station at the start of the run and the half way point.

    Transition Area - The Transition area will be on a first-come basis. The transition area at all TBF Racing events is for athletes only. All non-athletes must remain outside of the transition area at all times on race day. Bodymarking will be take place at the entrance to the transition area and must be completed before you enter the transition area. Glass or bottles are not allowed in the transition area.

    Divisions/Awards - For the Happy Kids Duathlon there will be 2-year age groups for boys and girls 5 to 14 years old. These age groups will be: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14. Awards will be presented three-deep in each 2-year age group. Each finisher will receive a TBF Finisher Button.

    For the five Race Series, athletes racing in all five of the events will be eligible for Series Championship Awards. Athletes changing age groups during the Series will finish the Series in their earlier age group.

    The Double Duathlon

    The Double Duathlon race is a one-of-a-kind multisport event. It takes place at beautiful Granite Beach, Folsom Lake SRA and features three runs and two bikes! It starts with a 2 mile run, then a 5 mile road bike, then a 2 mile run, then a 5 mile road bike, then a final 2 mile run.

    The Double Duathlon

    Granite Beach, Folsom Lake SRA

    The Double Duathlon features a run-bike-run-bike-run course with all three runs on trails and both bike legs on closed roads.

    Included for each athlete is a custom TBF Running Hat.

    Awards are for 1st through 3rd place in each age group for the Double Duathlon and 1st overall for Relay Team Divisions of Male, Female, and Coed.

    Double Duathlon Distance - 2 mile run-5 mile road bike-2 mile run-5 mile road bike-2 mile run.

    Three runs and two bikes! All three runs are the same and are mostly on trails. The bike legs are one lap on a road course closed to traffic winding through the scenic oak forests along the shoreline of Folsom Lake.

    Relay Teams

    Relay Teams consist of one cyclist and one runner. Entry fee includes two race visors and post race meals. Awards will be first overall in Male, Female and Coed divisions for the Double Duathlon.

    Race packets will be available race morning from 8 am to 10 am at the race site.
