    Get back to nature and run down the trails of Navarino! New in 2025 and 2026 are two new boardwalks that are 8ft wide spanning across the both bogs at Navarino. Run or walk the trail past some mud, over tree roots, across boardwalks over marshes and bogs, through forests and prairies, and raise funds for environmental education at the same time. Welcome to the Navarino Trail Run / Walk! This event helps to support a wonderful non-profit that provides educational programs to 3,000 students and over 15,000 adults annually. You're also supporting improvements to the trails that you enjoy walking or running!

    Staff and volunteers will time participants, in addition to your self timing. The nature center will have a timing display available. All participants will receive a participant medal. The event will be held on Saturday, April 25th at 9 am.

    Staff and volunteers will prepare the trails in advance. Staff will be here on Saturday, April 25th for packet pick up, starting the event, timing monitors, etc.

    Event details and schedule

    Packet pickup will be outside the nature center classroom on the west side of the building starting at 7:30 AM on Saturday, April 25th, 2025.

    10K and 5K events start at the 9 am, following national anthem and morning updates. Children's one mile fun run starts after the last participant from 5K walk has cleared the course (typically around 10:30 am).

    There will be NO Awards as all participants will receive participant metals in 2026.

    Maps will be available in advance on the nature center website. www.navarino.org

    What to wear: dress for the weather as event goes rain or shine. Bright colors are nice, or your favorite costume.

    Now in its 5th year, our annual Recovery Awareness Walk will be continuing our 5k Walk/Fun Run options! This event is spearheaded by the Shawano Menominee Resiliency Coalition to help bring awareness and support to those living in and working towards RECOVERY from addiction and mental health struggles in our local communities!

    In the first two years, the Recovery Celebration & Awareness Walk was able to help raise funds to open the Shawano Recovery Center and the Greater Shawano area's first Women's Recovery Residence! In the third year, funds were utilized to open a new recovery center, Rise Wellness, which is in the development phases of hiring an executive director and offering additional activities and programming to our local communities.

    This year, funds raised at our event will continue to expand and sustain recovery resources in our local area.

    Details of Recovery Celebration Activities include:

    8 :30am-10am: Registration & T-Shirt Pick-up starts (Pre-Registration will also be an option Friday, 5/2)

    8:30am -12:00pm: Recovery Resource Fair (local resources available to promote recovery)

    10:00am - 10:30am: Welcome Ceremony, Guest Speakers & Moment of Silence

    10:30am: Start of 5k Fun Run and 1.25 mile Recovery Awareness Walk through Downtown Shawano and returning to Franklin Park

    Throughout the day - Celebrate Recovery! Enjoy family-friendly activities (, bounce house, children's games), Live Music, Resource Fair & Food Trucks!

    This event will take place during Shawano Sundrop Dayz on Saturday, June 6, 2026. A registration tent will be set up on E. Elizabeth St. just West of Lincoln St. Registration and check in will begin at 7:30 am with the 5K Run/Walk beginning at 9:00 am.

    The entire course will be a combination of city streets and the Mountain Bay Trail.

    Online registration ONLY prior to race day. Event fees will not be reimbursed due to cancellation of the event or if the registrant cannot participate in the event. Participants must register no later than May 16th to receive the desired t-shirt size. If you register after the deadline, the t-shirt and/or size will depend on availability.

    Online registration is open until 11:59 PM on Friday, June 5.

    Participants can still register on day of race ($35) from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m.

    Awards will be given to the top male and female in each division.

    Packet pick-up will start Thursday , October 16, from 6:30am to 2pm & Friday October 17, from 6:30am to 5pm at No Boundaries Nutrition, 35 S. Main Street, Clintonville, WI, OR before the Monster Dash 5k at W.A. Olen Park from 5:00 pm to race start at 6pm Walk-in registrations are welcome that night!

    Same-day registration is welcome, but a t-shirt is not guaranteed. Online registration ends 10/17 at midnight. Please do an in-person registration after 10/17 on the race day (10/18) between 5:00pm and 6:00 PM at Olen Park. Late fees will apply after 10/17/25 midnight and a t-shirt is not guaranteed. But we will have extras while supplies last.

    We also are looking for volunteers to make this 5k a success. Please inquire if you or someone you know is interested.
