    DICK LYTIE HISTORY:

Dick Lytie was a devoted runner and run promoter in the Green Bay area. Like many runners in the 70ś, he ran for the simple joy of running. Dick owned and operate the first running store in the Green Bay area, The Joggerś Joynt which was located on the East side of town on the corner of East Mason and Main Street. He helped organize many of the locale races through the store and began Wednesday fun runs held at Ashwaubenon High School.

In 1981, Dick organized the inaugural Dick Lytie Spring Classic to give folks the opportunity to run together and compete. True to his beliefs, it was a very modest event. Only two water stops were provided, one at the start and one at the end, it was a tough course with long climbs, and was traditionally known for having bad weather. While being a competitive event, it was mostly a low key fun event for people to enjoy running together in.

After Dick's death in 1996, the race was taken over by Deb and Mark Ernst, owners of InCompetition. Sticking with tradition, the Deb and Mark kept the race with the same quirks as Dick did, and donated any money raised through the event to a local charity.

Due to the passing of Deb shortly after the race in 2016, the official event was not held in 2017 but a fun run was still held to commemorate the race. In 2018 the Green Bay Running Club took over this historic race to honor the lives of Dick Lytie and Deb Ernst who created many memories and camaraderie within the running community. This event includes a 3 mile, 15K, and a half marathon course which utilizes much of the original course (hills and all) that were part of the run for many years.

Great News PI Day is on PI Day this year!!

This year PI Day 5k Run/walk will be held on March 14, 2026 at 8:00am.

To receive a shirt in the correct size registration must be completed by Feb 20th

    Background on the race:

In the past eleven years the PI Race has donated over $220,000 dollars to local charities. This successful event is driven by a leadership team of 5th graders from our school. Each year a new race crew of students build on the prior years’ success. Our fifth graders work hard to secure sponsor donations, organize race details, create marketing materials, utilize our runner database, and organize event day festivities. They have created a signature event for this school and our community. This year we need your help to make this the best race yet.

    PI Day Run/Walk:

The Leonardo da Vinci School (Green Bay’s school for Gifted Learners) Race Board is planning it's eleventh annual Pi Day Run. We are going to continue taking on initiatives to have an impact that make a difference. We are Altruistic - We give back to the community. The run will take place in Green Bay and be open to the public. This project is being organized by fifth graders, who will work out all the details of the race from designing the t-shirt , creating sponsorship levels, meeting with city and county officials, mapping out the race route, signing up runners, voting on a charity along with all race day details.

    Why a PI Run?

The number Pi is approximately equal to 3.141592653589793238462643383… and is the circumference of any circle divided by its diameter.

Event Charity: Old Glory Honor Flight

    Mission

Honoring Local Veterans One Mission at a Time.

Old Glory Honor Flight was founded in 2009 by a loyal group of volunteers based in Appleton, WI. We are dedicated to our mission of "Honoring Our Local Veterans One Mission at a Time" which includes all veterans who served prior to May 7, 1975.

The Old Glory Honor Flight missions are completely free of charge to the veteran; we believe it's a meaningful way to say 'Thank You' for their service. Every detail of their day-long trip has the vets' best interest in mind to ensure they have a safe, memorable trip and one that conveys appreciation and admiration from our community. On each flight, we travel with trained volunteers who act as guardian escorts, a volunteer medical team, professional photographers and a host of others like the D.C. Park Police who ensure the veterans get the 'red carpet' treatment.
