Grateful Gravel is the proud creation of Deadhead gravel bike riders from the Mad River Valley, combining their love of long bike rides and music festivals into one long strange event. Two entertainment endeavors that collide to move you brightly. Grateful Gravel provides a challenging cycling event featuring some of Vermont's most picturesque landscapes and gravel roads that segues into a face melting gathering of community and friends to enjoy the song catalog of Hunter, Garcia, and the rest of the Grateful Dead.
[bike-in-covered-bridge.png]
The day begins with a 21, 46, or 63 mile gravel ride that makes your legs scream louder than Donna Jean during a mid-70’s Playing in the Band. An epic after party at Cousin's Brewing starts at 2:00 PM with music, food, beverages, and bar games. Weather-permitting, we'll have an outdoor stage and beer garden on the beautiful lawn out back.
All riders can refuel after the ride with a small meal provided by Silk Road and a beer compliments of Cousin's Brewing. Additional food and beverage will be available for purchase.

Women’s Cycling Collective + Twig Farm:
First Draft
Date: Saturday, August 8th
Start time: 7:30am (108mi.) and 12:30pm (54mi.)
Location: Twig Farm, West Cornwall, Vermont
Come join a warm community of brightly spirited, endurance-minded riders as we journey through the rolling and occasionally lumpy gravel hills of Addison County. Our 108- and 54-mile routes begin and end at Twig Farm in Cornwall, Vermont, offering a beautiful and unique setting to challenge yourself, connect with others, remain well nourished, and enjoy a memorable day on the bike.
Whether you’re experienced with longer-distance riding or are building your comfort, confidence, and endurance, there's a place for you here. Our goal is to create opportunities for riders of all experience and confidence levels to ride together, learn from one another, and discover what's possible through shared miles and shared experience. We believe some of the most meaningful growth happens not only through individual effort, but through the encouragement, insight, and camaraderie of a supportive community. To put it most simply, we grow stronger together.
The ride is intentionally structured to give athletes the flexibility to plan and approach the day in a way that best supports their individual goals. Whether focused on performance, practicing pacing and fueling strategies, building confidence over longer distances, or simply enjoying a strong day on the bike, the format creates opportunities to ride dynamically with others while pursuing individual objectives. By fostering supportive connections and shared experiences, the event is designed to maximize engagement, enhance performance, and create meaningful opportunities for learning and growth.
Riders taking on the 108-mile route depart at 7:30am to complete the first 54-mile loop before returning to Twig Farm. At 12:30pm, after an opportunity to rest, refuel and regroup over a shared brunch/lunch, all riders head back out to complete the second loop, this time joined by riders taking on the 54-mile route. 108-mile riders have until 1pm to make the
This format creates something that doesn't often exist in larger group endurance rides. Rather than many riders spending the day falling farther behind the finish while others are already celebrating, the midpoint becomes a shared start (or restart) point. Athletes have the opportunity to reconnect, meet new people, form new groups, and begin the second half of the day together. The shared meal offers nourishment, creates space to reflect on the first half of the ride, compare experiences, adjust pacing or fueling strategies, and apply those lessons immediately during the afternoon. Whether your goal is performance, confidence, learning, or connection, the day is designed to maximize engagement while providing meaningful opportunities to build on the fitness, skills, and experience developed through training.
Women's Cycling Collective and Twig Farm are committed to creating collaborative, rider-focused opportunities that support, encourage, and connect riders as they explore their potential through training and endurance through the context of the bike and the natural world. By bringing together riders with diverse backgrounds and abilities, we hope to foster engaging learning experiences, build lasting connections, and cultivate a culture where all riders can thrive and grow. We invite you to be part of the collective energy that uplifts, empowers, and inspires riders, both on and off the bike.
Thank you to our generous business supporters and partners for enriching rider experience and making this event possible: Twig Farm, Velocio, Sunrise Orchards, Frog Hollow Bikes, Darn Tough Vermont, and Julbo.

Thank you for your interest in the Green Mountain Stage Race. In 2023 the GMSR was the largest stage race in North America! Velo has selected the GMSR as one of the top ten stage races in the US two years in a row! Come experience what it is like to be treated like a Pro regardless of your catagory. This will be the twenty-fifth edition of the GMSR! We hope you can join us.
For 2026 the GMSR has been selected to be the final event in the USAC Juniors Cup! GMSR race results will help determine American juniors competing at the World Championships in Quebec as well as selection to USA Cycling team events. While the GMSR always attracts a world class junior field we expect an even stronger turnout for this year's race. Junior men will have a standalone event. Junior women will be competing in either the open women's field or the 3/4/Novice field based on age and results will be broken out and reported to USAC.
Racers must be a Cat. 4 or higher to enter all stage race events except the Women's 3/4/Novice, Men's 4/Novice and Mad River Open Road Race.
The Event Flyer is posted for your review. If you would like to see how the race will operate you can review the 2025 Tech Guide. The 2026 Tech Guide is in the process of being updated but the 2025 Tech Guide will give you good insight into the event except for Stage 4 where we plan to return to our much loved and thrilling downtown Burlington criterium. One of the few remaining downtown crits.
Please note: refunds will NOT be issued if you cannot attend the race. The only exception to this is for racers who sign-up prior to June 1. Those racers will be eligible for a no questions asked 80% refund but they must notify us by August 17th that they are withdrawing from the race so that we can try to fill their spot.
We strongly advise you to purchase the registration insurance offered through Bikereg at the time you register. Please read what is covered by the insurance to be sure it will work for you. The GMSR does not benfit in anyway from the purcahse of this thrid party insurance.
The Knobby Rock Gravel Grinder is a gravel bicycle event that highlights an incredible series of dirt loops in the heart of the Green Mountains and traverses through the scenic Moosalamoo National Recreation Area. The ride starts as a mass start from the iconic Blueberry Hill Inn and Outdoor Center located in the heart of the Moosalamoo forest. The course is primarily hard packed gravel and dirt roads and a few short sections of multi-use trail.
Riders will enjoy post race grill out, and camping is included on site, both the night before and after the event.
This is definitely one of our racers' favorite races. There are no huge hills and the scenery is beautiful. Beginning and ending at picturesque Shelburne Beach, you will run along dirt, gravel and paved roads featuring scenic views of Vermont countryside and rural farmland. Run past Charlotte Beach situated on beautiful Lake Champlain just before entering the Holmes Creek Covered Bridge for the first time. The course continues on quiet, rolling hills before arriving at the turnaround. The half marathon runs through the covered bridge twice. The 5K and 10K turn around before reaching the bridge (although it's not that far beyond the 10K turnaround, so if you want to run through it, it's not going to add that much to your finish time for 10K runners).
Join us for our second Tour de Farms in and around Middlebury, this year with a family-friendly route! Enjoy panoramic views and beautiful back roads as you visit local farms in Middlebury, Weybridge, Cornwall, and Salisbury, Vermont. This scenic ride features several relaxed farm stops with multiple food producers who will offer you a taste of all the Champlain Valley has to offer! All samples are included in the ride, but cash is handy in case you'd like to purchase products along the way. Don't worry about carrying all of your goodies on the bike; we'll have a farm van to pick up your purchases and deliver them to the finish for you!
Much of the course is along dirt and/or gravel roads, so grab your gravel grinder or your mountain bike. If you've got a road bike, consider putting wider tires on it for this ride. It'll be worth it! E-bikes are welcome and encouraged as a comfortable option. Many Vermont libraries offer free E-bike rentals, and our local bike shop and tour sponsor, Frog Hollow Bikes, has a great rental fleet.
Commemorative t-shirts and bike jerseys are available for pre-sale!
There will be a rolling start time for all ride distances. 37 Mile riders will begin between 9:00 and 9:30 am, plan to check in between 8:30 am and 9:30 am. 8 Mile riders will begin between 10:00 and 10:30 am, and plan to check in between 8:30 am and 9:30 am. Inexperienced and slower riders should plan to leave as close to 9 am as possible to ensure they complete the route, which is a little longer than in previous years. We will send off several different waves of riders, so don't feel like you have to be first in line. Waves prevent farm stops from becoming overwhelmed and ensure proper road safety.
100% of the proceeds from the Tour fund our work at ACORN and directly support our local foodshed. Given the importance of this ride to our work with farmers and food producers in the Champlain Valley, we invite riders to fundraise or make an additional donation. This is in an effort to lean on our committed local network of supporters during this time of uncertain funding.
No One Turned Away for Lack of Funds. Please get in touch with us if you’d like a scholarship or to purchase a ticket on a sliding scale: [email protected].

Silver Heist Walk/Run 5K
A historic town, a daring heist, and a race for silver—lace up and step into the Silver Heist Walk/Run 5K! Orwell, Vermont, was chartered in 1763 and has a rich history filled with resilience and community spirit. Among its earliest settlers was Deacon Ebenezer (Eber) Murray, who arrived in 1783. Known as the only man in town with a clock, Eber would blow a conch shell at 9 p.m. every evening to signal the time for evening prayers. In tribute to this tradition, the Silver Heist Walk/Run 5K will begin with the blast of a conch shell.
Our town is no stranger to bandit heists. In October 1862, just before the town fair, outlaws swept through Orwell, robbing several homes. Among those affected was Marcellus Royce, who lost $30 in silver to the thieves. The following year, in 1863, the First National Bank of Orwell was chartered, making it the oldest national bank in New England.Over its 162 years of dedicated service, the local Young family has managed it including the 5th generation and current bank manager, Bryan Young.
In this semisquicentennial of our nation's founding, we remember the Revolutionary War and the efforts of our founders to separate from King George III's oppresive rule with a wooden token "R" for participants. The fort at Mount Independence is located within the Town of Orwell. The Great Bridge, completed in 1777, crossed Lake Champlain and connected Mount Independence and Fort Ticonderoga. Built to move Revolutionary troops and supplies between Vermont and New York, it also discouraged British naval attacks to the south of the Fort. Of its 22 piers, the Orwell Historical Museum preserves a 9” section of one pier, found by Addison Kimball and donated by Orwell entrepreneur Fritz E. Lillie. Please stop in to our museum after the race to learn about our local participation in our nation's inception.
The wooden tokens collected from each year's race for the first six years will spell ORWELL.
The overall men's, women's, young man's and young women's winners will claim a custom award representing the $30 stolen from Marcellus Royce in 1862! Age division male and female winners will receive ribbons. Age groups are: 13+under, 14-16, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, 95+up.
Whether you’re a seasoned runner or prefer a leisurely walk, the Silver Heist Walk/Run 5K welcomes participants of all paces. Step into history, embrace the thrill of the chase, and race through history on a dash for silver!
All in-person participants will take home a custom Silver Heist Walk/Run 5K T-shirt and the wooden token. Don’t miss these exclusive race-day rewards!
Little Bandits Bolt
For the youngest racers, the Little Bandits Bolt offers a pint-sized thrill! Kids will dash across the soccer field at Orwell Village School (OVS), sharing in the spirit of the Silver Heist as they race their way into local history. Every participant will receive a custom Silver Heist Walk/Run 5K T-shirt and a finisher’s token at the finish line—a special memento of the event’s historic theme.
