Swag/Awards
T Shirt
Finisher medals
Overall and Age Group awards
While growing up in Mount Holly, New Jersey, Ed Espenshade played catch with his dad, attended Phillies and Sixers games, and dreamed of being an athlete. But soon after he acquired a paper route as a twelfth birthday present, Ed was hit by a car while attempting to cross a road. After blood was drawn during an examination in the emergency room, Ed received shocking news: he had diabetes.
As his path took an unexpected turn, Ed describes how he became more determined than ever to pursue his athletic goals. After an unsuccessful attempt at soccer, Ed eventually found his home as a cross country runner in high school and college. It seemed that Ed was defying all odds as he continued to run hundreds of road races that included four marathons. But everything changed in 2003 when Ed found himself face down on the street during a training run and soon received another stunning diagnosis: he had a rare nonmalignant brain tumor. As he details his continuing journey with two serious health conditions, Ed shines a light on the importance of keeping hope, faith, and perseverance alive in the face of lifes greatest challenges.

Sunday, August 23rd, 2026
The Delaware Valley Bicycle Club is pleased to offer our fully supported, highly acclaimed, Brandywine Valley Tour featuring covered bridges, picturesque villages, and amazing vistas! Enjoy any of five gorgeous routes with multiple rest stops serving varied menus including vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free options on request.
Our courses are over low-traffic paved roads through the lush, rolling Chester County hills known for its thoroughbred horse farms and beautiful landscapes. Our longer routes venture into the horse and buggy farm areas of Lancaster County. Century riders will roll to a rest stop in the aptly named town of Paradise PA. History buffs will love the historic revolutionary war connection of the nearby Brandywine Battlefield Historic Site. Others will be charmed by beautifully shaded roads winding by the area's many creeks and streams. Just a few miles before your ride's end, cyclists on the 50 and 100-mile routes will roll into one of the region’s best “cow-to-cone” ice cream farms for a refreshing, free ice cream.
Please pay particular attention to the following:
All riders are expected to have a fully functional and well-maintained bicycle.
Helmets are required.
All routes may be navigated with cue sheets (provided) and/or GPS routes.
There will be no road marks, but we will place signs at major route splits.
Class II electronic bikes (bikes with pedal assist and a throttle) are not permitted on this tour.
SAG will be provided until 5 p.m.
All routes start at Charles F. Patton Middle School, 760 Unionville Road, Kennett Square PA 19348.
Your tour fees directly benefit the community! Proceeds after tour expenses are distributed to many community organizations. Past donations have included local trails and parks, non-profit cycling organizations and community schools and sports organizations.
2025 Road Routes:
20 Miles - A guided ride led by a DVBC ride leader for experienced riders who want a shorter option with approximately 900 feet of climbing and one water/rest break midway along the route.
35 Miles - This route, which climbs about 2000 feet, includes delightful rolls through quaint towns, plus magnificent equestrian farm scenery on the way to and from the Harmony Rest Stop.
50 Miles - Lots of flat stretches but enough hills that you will take notice of about 2971 feet of climbing. This route is so pretty we hope it won't bring tears to your eyes! Two fully stocked rest stops plus lunch at the finish.
66 Miles - Awesome scenery abounds in this ride from Chester County into Lancaster County and back again. Three fully stocked rest stops plus lunch at the finish with a tad under 4000 feet of climbing.
100 Miles – With about 6,000 ft climbing. This town and country ride has it all! We set you off on a moderate and scenic route, then head for the hills and dales of western Chester County and rural Lancaster County. You'll enjoy rolling past gorgeous Octorara Creek. Admire the impossibly tall corn, search for Amish Sunday worshippers with collections of horses and buggies visiting neighborhood farms. Plus you'll find two beautifully restored covered bridges on this route. Four fully stocked rest stops - including a stop in Paradise just for Century riders and a pizza stop - plus lunch at the finish.

The North East Triathlon is an amazing race in a beautiful location. Just minutes from I-95, a Chesapeake Bay time trial swim and well paved country roads along Elk Neck State Forest make this a great race. The course is low traffic, hilly and technical in places, but has plenty of straightaways and beautiful views. The run course is a lightly rolling, out and back course on the shoulder heading south of town. This Chesapeake Bay waterfront town is worth a weekend away, there are plenty of boats, parks, restaurants and roads to explore.
We know you will love this race, watch our race video to learn more.
For further race details go to https://kineticmultisports.com/races/northeast/.
The Hellbender is back for 2026! This is a great course for both road or trail runners. Fast, flat, out and back along the scenic lakes and beautiful Weiser State Forest. Falcon Race Timing has teamed up with the RCVCA to help promote clean water in the state forest and surrounding Roaring Creek Watershed. Proceeds with help benefit RCVCA.

Half Marathon Start – 8:00am
5k Start – 8:30am
Packet Pickup: Race morning starting at 7am.
Race course will close at Noon.
Race shirts, finisher medals and a post-race meal is included in the entry fee for all participants.
Where:
Route 54 Parking Area (Located on PA RT 54 between Mount Carmel and Elysburg)
Weiser State Forest
Roaring Creek Tract
Bear Gap, PA 17824
The race can only be accessed on the Route 54 side of the park. The entrance is 3.5 miles west of the intersection of Route 54 and 61. 4.3 miles east of the intersection on Route 54 with Route 487. (Lat 40.8213, Long -76.4922).
The race gets its name from the species of aquatic salamander known as the hellbender, which are native to the hills and mountains of the eastern U.S., and can grow to as much as two feet long. Because they breathe through their skin, they require healthy, pristine, unpolluted streams and creeks to survive. Due to development and urbanization over recent decades, however, many of their habitats have become fouled and their numbers have drastically declined — they’re just one of the many species the race organizers hope to benefit over the long term with their efforts here.
Both the 5K and the half marathon races follow out-and-back courses that start and finish at the Route 54 parking area in Bear Gap, which lies between the two small towns of Elysburg and and Mount Carmel. From there, runners make their way along the roads that wind along the reservoir lakes inside this 9,000-acre park, one of 16 tracts that make up the Weiser State Forest in what is known as the ridge and valley region of eastern Pennsylvania.
The course for the half marathon is mostly fast and flat through the Roaring Creek Tract, and takes runners both along the shores of the lakes inside the park.
French Creek Racing presents the final race of our series of 6 open water swimming races throughout the summer.

From the lot, walk the short paved path toward the river and make a left until you see our launch/starting point. We are approximately 300 yards downstream from the 422 bridge. Absolutely no parking in front of our launch area.
Swimmers should be confident of their ability to swim 800/1600 meters in open water before entering.

FORMAT: Swimmers will go off in small groups at specified wave start times. The first swimmers will begin at 5:00 PM. Swimmers will get to choose their heats at 30 minute intervals, including the "party" heat at 6:30PM. 1600 meter swimmers must start no later than 6:00PM.

You will select your wave start time during the registration process. If you need to change your start wave, please email us. Aim to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your assigned wave time. You may warm up in the vicinity of the start/finish dock prior to your wave start time. Please do not swim downstream on the race course and remain within sight of the starting platform. When you arrive, check in at our table. You'll get body marked and you'll receive a swim cap. A bright colored cap or New Wave Swim Buoy must be worn by all racers. Please let us know in advance if you need to purchase a NWSB.
All series racers registered by 4/4 will receive a series t-shirt, and a custom award.
REFUNDS: No refunds will be issued. If requested at least 7 days in advance, we will be able to transfer your funds to a different training or race event.

The 800m swim course will start slightly upriver, then about 390 meters downriver, returning upriver to the finish line. For more details, please review our Swim Course Map. The 1600m swim course will be 2 laps of the 800m course.

It is suggested that swimmers bring their own pre-race food and drinks. If there is anything you need, please bring it from home!

PLEASE READ: INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY:
OPEN WATER SERIES EVENT OCCUR IN A RIVER SUBJECT TO FLOW AND RUNOFF CONDITIONS. All races will be held rain or shine. Two things will cause the race to be postponed: 1) Lightning in the area, and 2) water quality due to stormwater runoff. Generally, we will use www.phillyrivercast.org as a guideline of water quality. Ultimately, we will make a call by 12 noon and email registrants as well as posting it on our Facebook page at that time. Rain dates are typically Thursday of the same week, unless we post otherwise. If there is light rain during the event, we will still swim. WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO KEEP YOU INFORMED OF CONDITIONS, BUT DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE RIVER, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE ANY RACE TO BE HELD AT THE TIME INDICATED. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND FLEXIBILITY!
Prizes
Custom awards will be given for the top 3 in each category and age group, based on points scored in each race. Award winners must be present at the final race of the season (8/25) to claim their awards.

Gravel, farm roads, dirt paths, and singletrack… You can ride all that in 1 day right here in Berks county!
This ride is all about the Social. We start and finish at the Garber's Barn with friends, good food & tasty beverages.
This isn't your typical “gravel grinder” because this region of PA has a wide range of terrain including gravel, trails, quieter paved roads, and shortcuts through the woods to have some fun on! However, if you're not into riding singletrack with drop bars we can provide an option to get around that section.
Barn Gravel is not a race: It is a great time with good people and enough challenging terrain to make you earn some good food & drink. Last year the event got a little warm, and the team is working to bring back the “classic” Barn Gravel vibe in 2026, and possibly switching up the route (sneak peek).
The full route is planned to be around 60-miles and include a wide variety of “gravel” to take on at a casual, or excited, pace. A shorter option will also be available.
There will be 1-2 Aid Stations, that will also include some barn-games and feats of strength to add to the day's antics.
Schedule:
Arrive between 7:30 and 8:30
Ride-Roll Out between 9:00-9:30
Finish Up between 2:00-4:00
Hang Out as long as you like!
Plan to stick around after for the Barn Party!
We'll finish the day with beers, tasty food, music, bonfire, and post-ride camaraderie in the Garber's Barn. Bring your lawn chair and favorite koozie for this part — the after-ride party has a history of turning out to be better than the ride party.
Barn Gravel supports Helping Harvest, and we will ask every participant to bring a food item or cash donation during registration to support local hunger efforts and farmers.
