Lace up your sneakers and join us for our 4th Annual 5K and Fun Walk, supporting this year’s beneficiary, Neighborhood Emergency Aid Response (NEAR).
NEAR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2022 to provide rapid emergency assistance within the Amblebrook community. When a medical emergency occurs, every second matters. While Amblebrook is served by the regional 911 system—including Adams Regional Emergency Medical Services (AREMS), the Gettysburg Fire Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police—the large coverage areas for these services can sometimes lead to longer response times. NEAR was created to help bridge that gap.
When you dial 911, NEAR is dispatched at the same time as the ambulance. As a Pennsylvania EMS-certified Quick Response Service (QRS), NEAR volunteers are often able to arrive quickly to provide critical care until professional emergency responders arrive.
NEAR works closely with AREMS and is certified through the Emergency Health Services Federation of Pennsylvania. Each response team includes highly trained volunteers skilled in basic life support, CPR/AED, and first aid, with at least one team member certified as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), EMT, or Paramedic. These teams provide immediate, potentially life-saving interventions while awaiting ambulance crews.
In addition to emergency response, NEAR strengthens the community by offering CPR, AED, and first-aid training for Amblebrook residents.
Proceeds and donations from this year’s race support NEAR’s mission and contribute to a designated endowment that helps sustain the organization for years to come, ensuring that rapid emergency care is available when our community needs it most.

Dustin was an accomplished athlete and great student. He was a champion wrestler while in High School and a captain of the wrestling team. He was a “Two-Time Wrestler of the Year” for Today’s Sunbeam. After High School, while attending Wilmington University, Dustin started running. He competed in many Triathlons and Half Iron Man Events. Once he completed two years at Wilmington University, where he was on the Dean’s List each semester, he moved to Delray Beach, Florida for a fresh start to find his way in life. On August 30, 2012 his life was tragically taken from us from a random act of violence.
Dustin made you smile the moment he came into a room. He loved to make others laugh and was never afraid to laugh at himself. In his life he was an inspiration to all who knew and loved him. No matter what he was going through personally, he always had time to make you feel better about any circumstances you may be facing.
In his memory, The Dustin Deckard Scholarship was established, Tax ID #46-0893602, to continue the work he would of done if he was still with us. More than 30 scholarships have been awarded to date.

A huge shoutout to Jeff and Jeremy from The Ultra Running Guys. They organized 'The Final Countdown' in NC for 4 years. I reached out to them and they have allowed us to "steal" their idea! Bringing this fun and challenging race to WV!!!!
You are invited to this unique race experience that has something for everyone. From new runners to experienced ultra runners, the start will be a cinch. But the longer you last, the more the Countdown will demand from you. And all we ask is that you demand the most of yourself, holding off your own "Final Countdown" as long as possible.
The course is a 1.33 mile loop located on the property of Amani Brewery. Their grass path is taken care of and mowed all year round. It is a smooth, fast trail, with a small hill or two. Every lap, all runners leave together and must complete the loop in the allotted time. If you finish the loop before the Countdown completes, you can take a break, grab a drink, check your social media, or whatever it is you want to do.
One thing though. Each lap will get slightly faster than the last. We will start with the first lap at 20 minutes (15:02/mile pace), and for each successive lap the countdown will be 20 seconds shorter, forcing you to go a little bit faster each lap. If you don't make it back before the Countdown reaches "0", your adventure is over. But we would love for you to hang out and root on the remaining competitors. The race ends when only one runner returns before the completion of "The Final Countdown."
To get the most out of yourself, you will need to plan to be conservative enough so that you can have fuel in the tank to turn the jets on in the end.
If you are ready for your Countdown to begin, register today.
