Dear Neighbors & Friends,
I invite you to join us on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 2026 for the 18th Annual Chatham Turkey Trot. The event consists of a 1 Mile Family Fun Run and a USA Track & Field certified 5K Race that takes participants through the scenic Highlands section of Chatham Township, NJ.
Each year, The Chatham Turkey Trot attracts more than 1,300 runners who help raise funds for our first responders and diabetes research and education. Since its inception in 2009, we have raised more than $365,000 benefiting the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Chatham Emergency Squad, Chatham Township PBA #170, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, The Barton Center for Diabetes Education and the Diabetes Research Institute.
Over the years, the Chatham Turkey Trot has become a family holiday tradition that offers expert and novice runners alike the opportunity to spend time with family, friends, and neighbors, to raise funds for our first responders and diabetes research and education, and to break a sweat before the big meal.
I encourage you navigate through our website to learn more about our beneficiaries, to view photos and videos of past Trots, and to read about the local businesses who have supported our efforts over the years. If you have an interest in sponsoring the Turkey Trot please email us at [email protected].
I hope to see you on Thanksgiving Day.
Best regards,
Curt Ritter

TRAIL PARTY HANDBOOK COURSE DESCRIPTION We use the same 5K loop from our Frosty Fat Sass Trail Party in January. There are portapottys at the start/finish area. There's 289 ft of gain. The course is a great mix of mellow carriage roads (dirt or gravel wide trails) and a bit of technical singletrack with rocks and roots. The first mile is a wide dirt trail. The 1/2 mi 200+ ft descent at mile one is very rocky from erosion. There is a 100 ft climb at mile 2.5. The last mile is a singletrack with rocks and roots. This is a GREAT intro to the trails if this is your first event or you're just starting out. If you're going to be out there for 3 or 6 hours, we recommend a grippy shoe that can give ya some comfort over rocks and roots. We will always provide a detailed trail conditions report leading up to
the race and will include recommendations for any winter traction devices! You can download the gpx file and map below. Trekking poles are allowed at all of our events. You can download the gpx and map from our website. FAQ's Q: Can I have a pacer?A: As with all of our events, Squatchers over the age of 60 and AWD (athletes with disabilities) can have a pacer/guide at any time. Please use this form to pre-register your pacers. Pacers are not allowed for other runners and hikers without prior approval from the Trail Party Director.Q: Can I sign my kids up for the Squatchy Leftovers?A: Yes! This is a family friendly event. Be sure to register your child separately and agree to the waiver for minors. And make sure to keep track of Daniel before during and after the event. We only have 1 search-party and they're already out there looking for Sasquatch.Q: What's the weather like in West Orange, NJ in November?A: Cold. Snow. Maybe Hail. Balmy? Dress warm. Bring layers. Be smart.Q: I could get
lost in a brown paper bag. Will the course be marked?A: Wax on, right hand. Wax off, left hand. Wax on, wax off. Breathe in through nose, out the mouth. Wax on, wax off. Don't forget to breathe, very important. We will have bright colored ribbons along the course and plenty at all of the turns.Q: I don't want to run, are there any volunteer opportunities?A: Yes! We always need Sassy Volunteers! Please email us if you would like to volunteer: [email protected] Q: If I sign up for the 10K but don't feel like running another loop once I finish the first one, can I stop running?A: Yes. Participants can drop down to any distance mid-race if needed. Please let the race timer know if you are dropping down in distance or leaving the race.Q: Can I bring my dog?A: Your pup cannot come to this race. Our liability insurance does not cover dogs in the race. Thank you for cooperating!Q: Me and my friend aren't registered for the race, but we're still planning on coming to
run. We won't eat from the aid station or take a medal or swag. This is okay, right?A: NO THIS IS NOT OKAY. This is called being a "race bandit" and it is stealing. Not paying for a race and running the race is stealing from the race organization (even if you're not taking food or swag). Don't do this at a Sassquad trail party or ANY other race. It's not okay. And if you hear about someone else doing this, call them out. If you bandit a race, you will be banned from registering for any of our Sassquad events.Q: This is my first Trail Party, what do I need to know?A: Sweep the Leg. Do you have a problem with that, Mr. Lawrence? No mercy.. Seriously, we are SO EXCITED that you are choosing a Sassquad event for your first trail race! This is a great choice for your first race because these trails have a bit of everything! You'll run on easy carriage roads, technical singletracks and enjoy flat trails and hilly trails. You're going to LOVE it! SQUATCH DISCOUNTS Sassquad Trail Running is proud

double-check that you can make the race you're deferring to. PREGNANCY, ADOPTION, & POSTPARTUM POLICYWhether planned or unplanned, the beginning or end of a pregnancy requires healing and recovery time. We are committed to supporting you in this regard. If you are experiencing a pregnancy or postpartum healing and recovery, or have adopted a child, we are pleased to offer a deferral of up to three years from the current event. Simply send us an email and we will arrange the deferral for you. This deferral policy includes partners and spouses and is also extended to folks who are going through the IVF process. COMMUNITY CARE DEFERRAL POLICYWe recognize that the current climate around immigration enforcement, including ICE activity, is creating real fear and barriers to training, travel, and participation. Any registered participant who feels unsafe may request a deferral of their race entry for up to three years from the original race date, no questions asked. For anyone who still wants to
participate but is feeling hesitant, our Squatch Together Program offers the option to be paired with another runner or hiker for support before, during, and after race day. Your safety, dignity, and sense of belonging come first. SASSQUAD TRAIL RUNNING We are a community of SASQUATCH-lovin' trail runners and hikers. Our goal is to provide FUN and challenging events for runners of all ages and paces. We like to think that we have a good sense of humor, a full arsenal of sarcastic wit, useless trivia facts and a deep appreciation for cinematic masterpieces (as evidenced multiple times already). Follow us on Instagram , and like us on Facebook to get all of our Squatchy updates. You can also join our Facebook group, "Sassquad Trail Runners" to connect with other runners and hikers!
