The 2nd Annual Crusaders Crush Cancer 5K

We are back for the 2nd annual Crusaders Crush Cancer 5k! We are ready to make this year bigger and better than last year! We have signs ready to go for an accurately marked course. Our goal is to make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer. Proceeds from this event will again be split between two organizations that are especially close to our hearts: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Crusader Care Fund.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is one of the world’s leading institutions dedicated solely to cancer care, research, and education. Recognized as one of the top two cancer hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for more than 30 years, MSK continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in cancer treatment. Their world-class scientists and clinicians work together to translate groundbreaking research into life-saving therapies. MSK’s mission is bold and clear: ending cancer for life.

The Crusader Care Fund provides vital support to Archbishop Stepinac High School families facing serious illness. This fund helps ease the financial burdens these families may encounter during incredibly challenging times, offering relief and solidarity when it is needed most.

By participating in the Crusaders Crush Cancer 5K, you’re not just running—you’re standing with families in our community and contributing to the larger fight to end cancer.

    The Details:

The race will be held rain or shine on Sunday, April 19th, at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, NY. Race start is at 9AM and there will be a one hour time limit. It is suggested to arrive early to ensure parking on site and to make for a smoother bib pickup process. There are bathrooms available within the school building. In 2003, 11-year-old Edgemont student Taylor Matthews was diagnosed with bone cancer. Taylor wanted something good to come from her battle against cancer, so she created Tay-Bandz to raise public awareness about childhood cancer and fund pediatric cancer research. For many years our community has gathered to support Relay for Tay, an event honoring Taylor. As a tribute to Taylor and to extend the focus of the Relay event, we have created “Colors Against Cancer,” for which we are glad to have continued community support. In honor of Taylor's memory and to continue to proudly support the fight against cancer, on May 4, 2025 the "Colors Against Cancer" color run will be held.

WEPA is an inspiring and motivating running movement that was founded in New York City in the summer of 2016. Their name is a powerful double entendre: it is an acronym for their core values—Work-Excel-Persevere-Achieve—and "¡Wepa!" is a popular Hispanic cultural exclamation of joy and excitement. The crew was created to inspire those intimidated by running and to help people run their very first mile. They have since cultivated a supportive "family atmosphere" where members hold each other accountable and celebrate every milestone along the way.
