TIRE RECOMMENDATIONS
Our tire recommendation is a tire like Panaracer GravelKing SK 38mm or 40 mm. The unpaved sections have a wide mix of surfaces and can get pretty rocky - especially for the additional miles in the MEGA route. We do not recommend racing with a traditional road bike and/or slick tires.
VOLUNTEERS
We'd greatly appreciate it if friends or family members could help out for a few hours at one of the aid stations. All volunteers will get one of our JGG event shirts and free entry into the post race awards party with food & drinks. They can sign up right here on BikeReg. (We'd welcome local non-profit groups to run an aid station as a fundraiser as well).
THUNDER CHICKEN SQUATCH It's time to GET STOKED AT STOKES! This Sassquad Trail Party is at the beautiful Stokes State Forest in Branchville, NJ. Join us on Sunday August 9, 2026 for the Thunder Chicken Squatch! Runners and hikers of all ages and paces can sign up for the 5K, 10K, 10K Ruck, or the 17 miler. We will be honoring the individuals who have sacrificed so much to serve our country by offering 50% off entries to all Active-Duty Military, National Guard, Reserves and Veterans! If you are in the Military or are a Veteran, please use the code THUNDERCHICKEN to save 50%! We will recognize all of our military runners/hikers before the race. Please visit our website for the complete details on this race, course maps, gpx files etc! WHAT IS THE THUNDER CHICKEN? So what exactly is... "Thunder Chicken"? We are so glad you asked! Long-story-short, one of our runners serves in the US Army and when we invited her on our podcast in 2021, we found out that her "call-sign" in the Army is THUNDER
CHICKEN! And as we mentioned before, we are honoring our military runners/hikers with this trail party, so "Thunder Chicken" was the obvious choice for this race's name! You can check out that podcast episode HERE The Thunder Chicken Story is at the 54 minute mark! Remember, if you are serving in the Armed Forces right now or you are a Veteran, please use the code THUNDER CHICKEN to save 50% as a small way for us to say thank-you! BIGGER THAN THE TRAIL We are proud to partner with Bigger Than The Trail . BTTT is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that is using trail running as a platform to advocate for mental health. BTTT's mission is to enrich the lives of individuals struggling with mental health. Through their fundraising efforts, BTTT provides free therapy to those in need! Please consider making a donation to BTTT: Bigger Than the Trail to provide cost-free therapy for folks in need. Donate Here RUCKING DIVISION Introducing the new Rucking Division for the 10K! We've got two
divisions for Rucking based on weight: Lightweight (15 lbs) and Heavyweight (30 lbs). Both divisions are open to men, women, and nonbinary athletes. You gotta use a pack or ruck for carrying the weight (no weight vests!). The 15 lbs or 30 lbs is your pack's "dry weight", so that's weight before you add water, snacks, your umbrella and poncho etc etc. All rucking participants will receive a GoRuck patch! TRAIL PARTY DETAILS All events start at 9am; check-in 8:15am-8:45amWe have a 6 hour cut-off for all events. This comes out to 21 min/mi for the 17 milers. There are no on-course cut-offs for the 10K and 5K. 17 miler must reach the mile 7.65 aid station by 11:20am. Our Sweepers will leave the start/finish area at behind the last runners/hikers to start making their way around the course to take down the course markers. Final course cutoff is 3pm. As with all of our events, Squatchers over the age of 60 and AWD (athletes with disabilities) can have a pacer/guide at any time. Please use this
form to pre-register your pacers. Pacers are not allowed for other runners and hikers without prior approval from the Trail Party Director. SQUATCH KIDS CLUB We want the WHOLE family to come out to our events! Kids under the age of 19 can score 15% off their registration with the code SQUATCHKIDSCLUB. We also have some free entries available for youth athletes; email us to learn more! We have a special discount code for families registering 3 or more Squatches in the same household. Please email [email protected] before you register so we can give you the code! We recognize and celebrate our young adventurers by giving out wooden star medallions to kids who are registered AND to kids who come to spectate with their families. It's our way of saying thank you for being a part of our community and for embracing the spirit of adventure! We want families to come to our Trail Parties! We have a range of fun games that your family can enjoy: corn hole, connect four, a
giant rainbow parachute and the Squatch Hunt. Don't be shy, head on over to the Finish Line and join in on the fun! Learn more about our Squatch Kids Club! HARDSHIP ENTRIES If you are experiencing a financial hardship and would not be able to participate otherwise, please choose the "Hardship Entry" option. When we receive your registration, we will contact you with a code to register; at that time, you can let us know if you need a full or partial scholarship. If you are a community member who wants to contribute to our Squatch Community Fund, you can make a donation on our website. COURSE DESCRIPTION Much of course is very technical - this means that there are a lot of rocks and roots! Again - there are a lot of rocks and roots! The 17 miler is not recommended to kids under the age of 14. Trekking poles could be helpful for some folks. We recommend a sturdy pair of trail shoes that have good grip/lugs. There is about 1,500 ft of gain in the 17 mile loop. There is about 600 ft gain in the
10K loop; the course is a bit long, closer to 6.6 miles! The 5K has roughly 325 ft of gain. Again, there are A LOT of rocks and roots; this is not a smooth course. SQUATCH DISCOUNTS Sassquad Trail Running is proud to offer 20% off all events to all active duty military and Veterans, teachers and hopital workers. Please email [email protected] before you register for an event so we can provide you with a discount code. We extend a 10% discount to our Wise Elder Squatch Squad (folks who are over the age of 60); email us for the the code! New York-New Jersey Trail Conference Members and South Mountain Conservancy members can receive 10% off of registration; please email us for the discount code! COURSE MARKINGS Runners/hikers for the 17M and 10K will use the existing blue blazes (Blue Mountain Trail) that are maintained by our friends at the New York New Jersey Trail Conference. We will only be adding directional arrows at each of the turns. The 5K will be marked with
pink ribbons and pink directional arrows.Watch this video from the Squatch Trail School to learn how to navigate at the Thunder Chicken Squatch! We won't eat from the aid station or take a medal or swag. This is okay, right?A: NO THIS IS NOT OKAY. This is called being a "race bandit" and it is stealing. Not paying for a race and running the race is stealing from the race organization (even if you're not taking food or swag). Don't do this at a Sassquad trail party or ANY other race. It's not okay. And if you hear about someone else doing this, call them
out. If you bandit a race, you will be banned from registering for any of our Sassquad events. SKRATCH We are excited to share that our friends over at Skratch Labs are official Sassquad sponsors! We will be proudly serving Skratch Hydration at the on-course aid stations for the 17 miler. REFUNDS/DEFERRALS REFUND & DEFERRAL POLICYLike many other race organizations, we
do not offer refunds for our events. Please take the time to double-check your calendar before registering for a Trail Party. Please understand that we do not offer refunds under any circumstances. If you notify us via email (not through social media, text, or phone call) more than 21 days from the date of the Trail Party, we will extend a deferral to any of our events that fall within one calendar year of the Trail Party that you were registered for, minus 15% of the registration fee that you originally paid. If you sustain an injury less than 21 days from the race date, we will extend a 100% deferral if you come to that race to volunteer. For distances less than 50K, you'll need to volunteer for at least 4 hours and for 50M+ distances, you'll need to volunteer for at least 8 hours to get a 100% deferral. If the race that you want to drop from is sold-out with an active wait-list and are able to fill your spot: if you notify us via email (not through social media, text or phone call) at
least 3 days before the race, we will extend a deferral to any of our events that fall within one calendar year of the Trail Party that you were registered for, minus 15% of the registration fee that you originally paid. The race credit is the amount that you paid for the race, minus 15% (total credit does not including UltraSignUp fees) so you will need to cover any difference in fees; refunds will not be issued if the deferred event costs less than your race credit. You can only defer one time so please double-check that you can make the race you're deferring to. PREGNANCY, ADOPTION, & POSTPARTUM POLICYWhether planned or unplanned, the beginning or end of a pregnancy requires healing and recovery time. We are committed to supporting you in this regard. If you are experiencing a pregnancy or postpartum healing and recovery, or have adopted a child, we are pleased to offer a deferral of up to three years from the current event. Simply send us an email and we will arrange the deferral for
you. This deferral policy includes partners and spouses and is also extended to folks who are going through the IVF process. COMMUNITY CARE DEFERRAL POLICYWe recognize that the current climate around immigration enforcement, including ICE activity, is creating real fear and barriers to training, travel, and participation. Any registered participant who feels unsafe may request a deferral of their race entry for up to three years from the original race date, no questions asked. For anyone who still wants to participate but is feeling hesitant, our Squatch Together Program offers the option to be paired with another runner or hiker for support before, during, and after race day. Race Start Time and Location:
Our 18th Annual Rocco Laurie Memorial Staten Island Triathlon/Duathlon on 8/9/26 is one of our biggest events this season, last year bringing near 400 competitors! The race is popular not only because of an expertly designed closed course, but is also an event dedicated to honoring Rocco Laurie, a Vietnam veteran and NYPD officer, who lost his life while serving his fellow New Yorkers in 1972. Larry Ambrosino, chair of the Rocco Laurie Scholarship Fund, came up with the idea for a race in Staten Island to remember his Mariners Harbor roots and friend.
This is also a great race for those training for longer events later in the year, such as Jones Beach Ironman 70.3 on 9/26. The Staten Island Triathlon is a perfect race to condition yourself for an event like a Half Ironman.
Thanks to NYPD, this race has a completely closed off bike course on Father Capodanno Blvd. The water and current condition of Midland Beach has always been calmer than some of our other open water swims. Wet suits are optional. Lifeguards & NYPD Water Patrol will be on duty to ensure a safe and successful swim for all triathletes.
Here is what you can expect on race day: Race start is 7:30AM sharp at the transition area by the baseball field, at the west end of the Father Capodanno Blvd. Parking is at Lot 9, by the Lincoln Ave, not too far from the transition area. Triathletes will head to the beach for their swim start, .25 miles to the East of the Transition area. Duathletes will start their first run on the Franklin D Roosevelt boardwalk by the Comfort Station, in the Transition area.
At the end of the 400 meter swim, Triathletes will head back to the Transition through the open area near the smaller and shorter jetty. Duathletes will turn around turn around at 1.5 mile near the parking lot 5 and make their way back to the Transition. Both Triathletes and Duathletes will then begin the 12 mile bike portion of the race.
The bike segment is on Father Capodanno Blvd from the baseball field (hairpin turn) to Sand Lane, and back to the Transition area. Riding 3 loops (12 miles), 4 miles per loop. The course is flat and with no significant elevation gain.
The final segment of the race is a 3 mile run for both Triathletes and Duathletes. You will be running on the Franklin D Roosevelt Boardwalk. You will start from the Transition area outside of the baseball field and heading East. Turn around at 1.5 mile near the parking lot 5, and make your way back to the finish by the Transition area, running through the finish flags.

Runners, history buffs, and families will come together on August 9, 2026, for the Monmouth Battlefield 5K. Part of the RevolutionNJ Race Series, the event begins at 9:30 a.m. and offers a unique way to engage with New Jersey’s Revolutionary War history.
The RevolutionNJ Race Series draws inspiration from Jonas Cattell’s legendary run to warn American troops of a British attack at Red Bank Battlefield. This race is one of six in the series, with additional events planned at Cedar Bridge Tavern, Red Bank Battlefield, Fort Lee Historic Park, Princeton Battlefield, and Batsto Village.
Whether running, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, participants will experience a race that blends fitness, history, and community celebration. The event offers an interactive way to honor the region's past.
Timing and Event Management Provided by TNT Event Management
In 1993 the Nasau Police Running Club held a 5K run in memory of Nassau County Police Officer Gary R. Farley who tragically died in the line of duty. PO Farley was the first officer to lose his life in the line of duty since the inception of the Nassau Police Running Club in 1980.
Since 1993, the Nassau County Police has tragically lost many additional members who were serving the people they were sworn to protect.
The Nassau Police Running Club has vowed to ensure that these officers lives would not be lost in vain and the club is committed to making sure all members and their families know that we will never forget the sacrifice their loved ones have endured.
The Nassau County Police Officer Memorial Run is held annually and proceeds from the Nassau Police Officer Memorial Run will be used to present scholarships in the names of our fallen officers. These scholarships will be presented to graduating high school seniors attending secondary education and who are involved in their schools running clubs.
About The Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup
This race is Round 8 of the 2026 Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup. The Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup links the Kissena Cycling Club Prospect Park Series into an overall competition with Verge leader kits and overall prizes awarded to the winners of the Category 1-2-3 and Category 3-4 events. There are also separate Sprint, KOM, and Best Master 45+ competitions in the Category 1-2-3 and Category 3-4 races. There are no overall competitions in the Category 5 event.
Click here for detailed information on how points are scored for each competition, prizes, and Frequently Asked Questions.
Timing Chips
For 2026 all Prospect Park and Floyd Bennett Field races will be timed using active timing chips(Except for Cat 5 races). The chips will allow us to provide faster, live results along with lap time reports, KOM and Sprint results, updated series standings and other features to be added at later dates. You must have a timing chip to be scored in the KOM or Sprint competitions and to receive podiums/prizes on race day. If you aren't using a chip we will send in your result to USA Cycling for rankings but you will not be eligible for a daily prize.
All riders in the Cat 1-2-3 and Cat 3-4 will need to have a timing chip to race. Riders in the Cat 5 race will NOT need a chip. Timing chips are available to purchase along with your registration as a merchandise item. If you are a CRCA member and already have a chip you DO NOT need to buy a chip. If you have a chip for the NJ TT or CX series, you DO NOT need to buy a chip. If you purchased a chip in 2022-2025 please continue using it.
The chips are guaranteed to work for a minimum of 5 years and can be used in multiple different series. Currently, the chips will work for CRCA races, both Prospect Series, FBF Tues nights, NJ TT Series and NJ CX series. More races and series will be added shortly.
The chip cost is $75 and you will own and be responsible for your chip. If you decide at any time that you do not want to participate in either of the Prospect series you can return the chip for a pro-rated refund. You will receive a refund equal to your original purchase price minus a rental fee of $5 per race you have entered. For example, if you have entered 4 races you would receive a $55 refund($75-$20). Only riders who purchased a chip for the FBF or PP series are eligible for this refund program.
If you are visiting from out of town and plan on racing at a park event, please contact me and we can arrange a one time chip rental or make other accommodations for your results. You do not need to purchase a chip if you are only racing once.
