COURSE MARKING & ROUTE FILES

Course will be well marked with coroplast arrow signage at all turns and all registered racers will have free access to our RideWithGPS event account on race day to follow the route with visual and audio cues. (Requires downloading RWG App to your phone). You can also download FIT/GPX files from there to upload to your bike computer. Just make sure to autosync your ride to RideWithGPS.

Here Are The Planned 2026 Routes:

STOCKED AID STATIONS

Aid Stations will all have GU, Gatorade or Nuun hydration, Water and GU Chews & Gels. Aid Station 1 (Mile 21) will feature our famous organic pancakes and real maple syrup. Aid Station 2 (Mile 45) & 3 (Mile 65) will have a mix of refueling items like Swedish Fish, Pickle Juice, Coke, Clif Bars, etc.

TRAFFIC CONTROL

Police will be stationed at some key intersections to provide traffic control.

MGG SUPPORTS LOCAL CHARITIES

A portion of event proceeds will be going to charities in the region including CT Cycling Advancement Program (CCAP).

EVENT SWAG

Custom Swag - Details coming soon.

POST RACE PARTY

Post race party with Live Music will feature the much loved hot food truck that we hired last year serving tacos & rice bowls. We're also bringing back the Ice Cream truck & cold N.A. Beer from our friends at Athletic Brewing Company.

SEGMENT RACING

We will still track Gran Fondo style segments for bragging rights. You can chill out and ride at your own pace and then hammer the Timed Segments. We'll be using RideWithGPS to automatically manage leaderboards and overall results. Mega has 5 segments, Adventure 4 segments and Soul 2 segments. While leaderboards will be live, we'll pull final reports on Wednesday morning following the event.

To be included in the leaderboard, you will need to have a free RideWIthGPS account that ride will be synced to. Make sure to complete your user profile including Name, Date of Birth & Gender and also set visibility to “Everyone” so you'll appear in the leaderboards.

TIRE RECOMMENDATIONS

Our tire recommendation is a tire like Panaracer GravelKing SK 38mm or 40 mm. The unpaved sections have a wide mix of surfaces and can get pretty rocky - especially for the additional miles in the MEGA route. We do not recommend racing with a traditional road bike and/or slick tires.

VOLUNTEERS

We'd greatly appreciate it if friends or family members could help out for a few hours at one of the aid stations. All volunteers will get one of our JGG event shirts and free entry into the post race awards party with food & drinks. They can sign up right here on BikeReg. (We'd welcome local non-profit groups to run an aid station as a fundraiser as well).

Welcome! I’m your Race Director, Tom Wilkas. We are pleased to bring you both the original Pat Griskus Sprint Triathlon, which started in 1987, and the Olympic distance race, which was conceived in

    1. Since then, we have also added a duathlon and a second sprint triathlon run concurrently with the Olympic triathlon.

Key folks include: Dave Heller, Robin Griskus, Laura Griskus, Marty Cashin, Mike Maximenko, Dave Kunces, Kim Tessier, Jeff Sheldon, Tom Hill, Jim O’Rourke, Chris Hibbs, Sandra Heller, Kristin Heller, Meghan Curley, Tim Cipriano, Tim Ruh, Karen Mcwhirt, Rob Scott, Eric Pattison and Others. Pat Griskus was an amazing guy and credited with paving the way for the many amputee athletes to follow.

Both races are USAT Sanctioned and are held at Quassy Amusement Park on Route 64 in Middlebury, CT. The Sprint distance starts with a half-mile swim in spring-fed Lake Quassapaug, enjoy the challenging 10.5 mile bike around the lake, and the out-and-back 3.1 mile run. There is a First Timers division for those tackling their first Triathlon ever, with medals for all first time finishers. With close to 100 first-timers each year, this race has become a favorite for first time triathletes!

The Olympic distance race features a clean and clear one mile lake swim in Lake Quassapaug, enjoy a 25 mile challenging one loop bike course through classic New England farm country, and a 6.2 mile run on shaded back roads.
