Both courses are very technical route, which means that there are a lot of rocks and roots.
There are steep climbs, rocky cliffs and even a short scramble. We want to emphasize that this is a very challenging course and very different from our other events! If we have rain (or snow?), the course will be extra challenging. All of that being said - this is a beautiful course! Your hard efforts will be rewarded with sweeping views as you get to enjoy peak foliage in the Hudson Valley. Since we started hosting this event in October, we have always lucked out with amazing fall colors! HARDSHIP ENTRIES If you are experiencing a financial hardship and would not be able to participate otherwise, please choose the "Hardship Entry" option. Donate Here FAQ's Q: Can I have a pacer?A:As with all of our events, Squatchers over the age of 60 and AWD (athletes with disabilities) can have a pacer/guide at any time. Please use this form to pre-register your pacers. Pacers are not allowed for other runners and hikers without prior approval from the Trail Party Director.Q: Can I bring my dog?A: Sorry, but Padfoot has to stay at home for this race. Our liability insurance
does not cover dogs running our races; thank you for understanding!Q: Can I sign my kids up for the race?A: Yes! We want the WHOLE family to come out to our events! We have a special discount code for families registering 3 or more Squatches in the same household. Please email us ([email protected]) before you register so we can give you the code! Once you have the code, be sure to register your child separately and agree to the waiver for minors. And make sure to keep track of little Fred and George before during and after the Trail Party. We only have 1 search-party and they're already out there looking for Sasquatch.Q: What's the weather like in Tuxedo, NY in October?A: Cool, usually in the high 50's, low 60's. Odds are that the Trail Party will be during peak foliage!Q: This will be my first trail race. Can you share some race-strategies with me?A: Merlin's Beard! We are SO EXCITED for you! You will feel welcomed at our race and you can expect a well-marked
course. Take your time out there and enjoy the experience! You do not have to run the entire time! Do some hiking and have fun.Q: What food will you have at the aid station?A: The Leaky Cauldron is running on their inventory of butterbeer, jelly slugs, fizzing whizbees so we have to stick with the standard trial running fare. We will have a wide variety of traditional ultra running food, as well as many vegan and gluten-free items. We will also have SKRATCH!Q: I could get lost in a brown paper bag. Will the course be marked?A: We will have bright colored ribbons along the course and plenty at all of the turns. Please note: we do not allow Apparating at this trail party. Wizards and witches who apparate wil receive a DQ.Q: Will I encounter any wildlife on the course?A: Besides the centaurs and hippogriffs, Harriman State Park is home to many critters, including black bears, deer, beavers and coyotes. We are utilizing heavily trafficked trails, so it is unlikely you will encounter any
larger critters! But do make sure you watch out for the Whomping Willow.Q: I don't want to run, are there any volunteer opportunities?A: Of course! We always need Sassy Volunteers! Email us if you would like to volunteer: [email protected]: Me and my friend aren't registered for the race, but we're still planning on coming to run. We won't eat from the aid station or take a medal or swag. This is okay, right?A: NO THIS IS NOT OKAY. This is called being a "race bandit" and it is stealing. Not paying for a race and running the race is stealing from the race organization (even if you're not taking food or swag). Don't do this at a Sassquad trail party or ANY other race. It's not okay. And if you hear about someone else doing this, call them out. If you bandit a race, you will be banned from registering for any of our Sassquad events. SKRATCH We are excited to share that our friends over at Skratch Labs are official Sassquad sponsors! We will be proudly serving
Skratch Hydration at the aid stations. Sassquaders can save 20% by using the code SASSQUAD24 at skratchlabs.com SNEAKER FACTORY Thank you to our friends at Sneaker Factory, NJ! Sneaker Factory supports Sassquad Trail Running on and off the trails to help make the events as squatchtastic as possible! The Sneaker Factory is NJ's source for all things running: New Jersey's oldest and most well-known running store, originally opened in Millburn in 1978. Stop by one of our three convenient neighborhood locations and let us help you find the "perfect ride for every stride." Millburn, Florham Park and Basking Ridge. SASSQUAD TRAIL RUNNERS We are a community of SASQUATCH-lovin' trail runners and hikers. Our goal is to provide FUN and challenging events for runners of all ages and paces. We like to think that we have a good sense of humor, a full arsenal of sarcastic wit, useless trivia facts and a deep appreciation for cinematic masterpieces (as evidenced multiple times already). Follow us on
Instagram , and like us on Facebook to get all of our Squatchy updates. You can also join our Facebook group, "Sassquad Trail Runners" to connect with other runners and hikers! REFUNDS/DEFERRALS REFUND & DEFERRAL POLICYLike many other race organizations, we do not offer refunds for our events. Please take the time to double-check your calendar before registering for a Trail Party. Please understand that we do not offer refunds under any circumstances. If you notify us via email (not through social media, text, or phone call) more than 21 days from the date of the Trail Party, we will extend a deferral to any of our events that fall within one calendar year of the Trail Party that you were registered for, minus 15% of the registration fee that you originally paid. If you sustain an injury less than 21 days from the race date, we will extend a 100% deferral if you come to that race to volunteer. For distances less than 50K, you'll need to volunteer for at least 4 hours and for 50M+
distances, you'll need to volunteer for at least 8 hours to get a 100% deferral. If the race that you want to drop from is sold-out with an active wait-list and are able to fill your spot: if you notify us via email (not through social media, text or phone call) at least 3 days before the race, we will extend a deferral to any of our events that fall within one calendar year of the Trail Party that you were registered for, minus 15% of the registration fee that you originally paid. The race credit is the amount that you paid for the race, minus 15% (total credit does not including UltraSignUp fees) so you will need to cover any difference in fees; refunds will not be issued if the deferred event costs less than your race credit. You can only defer one time so please double-check that you can make the race you're deferring to. PREGNANCY, ADOPTION, & POSTPARTUM POLICYWhether planned or unplanned, the beginning or end of a pregnancy requires healing and recovery time. We are committed to
supporting you in this regard. If you are experiencing a pregnancy or postpartum healing and recovery, or have adopted a child, we are pleased to offer a deferral of up to three years from the current event. Simply send us an email and we will arrange the deferral for you. This deferral policy includes partners and spouses and is also extended to folks who are going through the IVF process. COMMUNITY CARE DEFERRAL POLICYWe recognize that the current climate around immigration enforcement, including ICE activity, is creating real fear and barriers to training, travel, and participation. Any registered participant who feels unsafe may request a deferral of their race entry for up to three years from the original race date, no questions asked. For anyone who still wants to participate but is feeling hesitant, our Squatch Together Program offers the option to be paired with another runner or hiker for support before, during, and after race day. Your safety, dignity, and sense of belonging come
first. Event's current local time: 4:52 AM ET
About The Hook Mountain Ultra began as a physical challenge, but has become an official running event sanctioned by USATF and organized by trail runners for trail runners. In 2025 we had 15 starters, and 0 finishers due to time. Our goal is to organically grow the event while keeping the community group run vibes. This event is for the athlete who wants to test themselves at the 50 mile or marathon distance, needs a qualifier for another event, or is simply looking for an adventure close to home without breaking the bank. You are enough if you start, you are enough if you complete 1 loop or all 4, but only athletes who complete the full 50 mile or 27 mile courses will be listed as official finishers. We will continue to update this registration page with more information leading up to the run. If you have any questions, please email the race director: Phil Germakian at [email protected] Course Description The Hook Mountain Ultra is a 50 mile trail race with approx. 9,700 feet of
elevation gain! Our course is trail running heaven offering big climbs, exposed ridges, winding singletrack, scenic river views, runnable gravel, and steep descents! The 50 mile event is intended for experienced ultra runners. If you are new to ultrarunning, please consider our 27 mile Mountain Marathon! The 50 mile course begins with a 4 mile out and back to spread out the field before entering the singletrack trail, followed by four consecutive 11.5 mile loops that gain 2,431 feet of elevation per loop. The 27 mile marathon option has approx. 4,900 feet of elevation gain! It begins with the same 4 mile out and back, followed by two consecutive 11.5 mile loops that gain 2,431 feet of elevation per loop.11.5 Mile Loop Strava Link: https://www.strava.com/activities/14437500324Each loop starts and finishes at the Nyack Beach State Park trailhead, and begins with a 1.6 miles climb to the summit of Hook Mountain. Starting from the trailhead parking lot, you run North along the Hudson River on
the bike path trail for 2 miles, then return. On the return you will make a right turn at AS#1 onto the Summit Trail (White Blaze), stay to the left at the first junction to continue up. After about 1 mile this trail ends, and make a sharp right turn onto the Long Path Trail (Aqua Blaze), which you follow up and down along the top of the Palisades ridge line. At about 3.8 miles in, you will come to AS#2 and the only road crossing on the loop (Landing Road). Go across it and continue on the Long Path Trail (Aqua Blaze) for an additional 2.7 miles. At about 6.5 miles into the loop you will turn right off the Long Path onto the Treason Trail (White Blaze) down to the river. This is a technical and steep 1/2 mile descent back down to the river trail. When this trail ends, turn right onto the gravel bike path, and you will see AS#3. Leaving the Aid Station continue South 4.5 miles back to the start and AS#1. Repeat this loop 3 more times for 50 Milers and 1 more time for Marathoners, and you are
finished! Congratulations! There is a 14 hour cut-off time, because the fun has to end sometime. This decision is to keep you safe, so nobody is out running ridges in the dark. If you don’t finish within 14 hours you will be counted as a DNF. 50 Milers will also have a 7-hour cut-off at mile 27. Aid Station There will be 3 aid stations set-up on the 11.5 mile looping course that you will pass every 3 to 4.5 miles. Aid Station #1 will be set-up at the start of the loop along the River Trail. 50 Milers will pass this aid station 4 times at miles 4, 15.5, 27, 38.5. Marathoners will pass this aid station 2 times at miles 4 and 15.5. Aid Station #2 will be set-up 3.8 miles into the loop when the Long Path Trail crosses Landing Road. 50 Milers will pass this aid station 4 times at miles 7.8, 19.3, 30.8, 42.3. Marathoners will pass this aid station 2 times at miles 7.8 and 19.3.Aid Station #3 will be set-up 7 miles into the loop when the Treason Trail ends at the River Trail. 50 Milers will pass
this aid station 4 times at miles 11, 22.5, 34, 45.5. Marathoners will pass this aid station 2 times at miles 11 and 22.5.All aid stations will be stocked with water, sports drink, and energy gels. In the event the swim is canceled due to weather, safety concerns, or circumstances beyond our control, registration fees and donations will not be refunded. The Lighthouse Swim takes place rain or shine; however, the safety of our swimmers, volunteers, and community is our top priority.
The Raven Rocks 10k Trail Run is BACK for NOVEMBER 8, 2026! Woo hoo!
We have also brought back the 100k Raven Challenge with all of the fun elements from last year -- plus we're looking to add a few more activities to the challenge during the month of November!
You can sign up for one or the other -- or do BOTH! Signups for both events at the same time get a discount which appears at checkout.
Shirts this year are one design and available either on long-sleeved cotton shirts (traditional) and/or short sleeved tech fabric shirts (new!). You can purchase one, both, or neither shirt. If you are a purely virtual Raven 100k Challenge runner, we will mail you your shirt if ordered along with your finisher woodallion.
As always, these Raven events support the Friends of Trailside Museum and Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. During registration we encourage runners and challengers to join as members of the museum to support their non-profit educational and conservation purpose.
Once the donation vehicle has been established, we will support the Friends of the Cross River Mountain Fire Tower. We are working with the Westchester Parks Foundation who plan to raise funds to support Westchester County and NY State in the restoration of the fire tower to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. That fundraising account will be set up soon with a range of support levels. More news to come!
More information about each event
Raven Rocks Run - 10k Trail Run
The Raven Rocks Run is a challenging 10k trail run at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River, NY.
The ELEVENTH running of the race will be in November.
Race will be in-person Sunday, November 8, 2026 starting at 9am. (Final race date approval pending county permit.)
The race will start in the Meadow near the fallen oak tree and its massive remains. The course passes by the spot where the Leatherman’s Loop begins. Instead of heading towards the river as the Loop does, the Raven Rocks Run 10k course climbs and climbs up to the two highest points in the park (Raven Rocks Overlook and the Fire Tower Summit) before heading back for a (mostly) downhill and (relatively) flat finish.
The course passes by the site of the former Blue Trail fire tower which is the highest point in the park. We are working towards getting back the tower to its former spot in the park. See Course Map page for course details.
More information about the race and tower project is on the About page and the FAQ page of our ravenrocksrun.org website.
We are looking forward to November when we will run this event for the ELEVENTH time!
Important: Our Raven Rocks Run race plans are contingent on permit approval from the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Conservation. This approval is not guaranteed but has been obtained for the prior nine races. As in all prior years we open registration with the understanding that the race will take place. We will update runners if the permit is not approved for the current year.
Raven 100k Challenge
The Raven 100k Challenge is simple: first, register for the challenge. Then run, hike, or walk 100k during the month of November 1st - 30th, 2026.
Note: You can register as late as November 15 for the 100k challenge and enter your mileage to date when you register.
This works out to an average of around 3k per day or 25k (15 miles) per week.
If you complete the challenge, you will receive a wooden finisher medallion. Shirts are optional.
The Raven 100k Challenge supports the Friends of Trailside Museum and Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, a 501(c)3 not for profit organization based at the Trailside Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation.
You can also join the Friends of Trailside Museum and Ward Pound Ridge Reservation for annual membership during signup.

Any other badge ideas? We are open to suggestions :)
In addition, we will have recognition for:
First 3 men and First 3 women to 100k
Top 3 men and Top 3 women in total kilometers.
Anyone in contention for these Top 3 awards must make their entries in a timely manner:
All entries must be made within 36 hours of your run/walk.
If you do not enter your results within 36 hours you will not be eligible for any "Top 3" challenge recognition. We want our top participants to be in a 'virtual race' with each other. Without timely distance entries, this is not possible.
This is to discourage participants from "batch entering" their results and leaping to the top or near the top of the standings.
Keep your results up to date if you are in the running!
Note: In order to win these awards distance submissions need to be made via GPX files.
See instructions submitting results on RunSignUp Raven 100k Challenge page.
HALFWAY (50K) bonus search
For those in the area near Ward Pound Ridge Reservation we have a special treat in mind. If you opt-in via the badge update form (AFTER you pass the 50 kilometer mark on your Raven 100k Challenge) we will send you GPS coordinates to somewhere in the park where we have hidden a small challenge surprise for you to find. It will be obvious once you get there, but not easy to find unless you have the coordinates. Complete instructions and advice come with the GPS challenge confirmation email.
Everyone will have a different and unique spot somewhere in the park. Some will be further off-trail than others depending on how familiar you are with the park. You can ask for harder or easier location in the request and we will do our best to accommodate your request! Difficulty estimates can be subjective though!
Let us know when you find your halfway bonus (or if you can't find it!).

Donate Here REFUNDS/DEFERRALS REFUND & DEFERRAL POLICYLike many other race organizations, we do not offer refunds for our events. If
you sustain an injury less than 21 days from the race date, we will extend a 100% deferral if you come to that race to volunteer. For distances less than 50K, you'll need to volunteer for at least 4 hours and for 50M+ distances, you'll need to volunteer for at least 8 hours to get a 100% deferral. You can only defer one time so please
double-check that you can make the race you're deferring to. PREGNANCY, ADOPTION, & POSTPARTUM POLICYWhether planned or unplanned, the beginning or end of a pregnancy requires healing and recovery time. We are committed to supporting you in this regard. For anyone who still wants to
participate but is feeling hesitant, our Squatch Together Program offers the option to be paired with another runner or hiker for support before, during, and after race day. Your safety, dignity, and sense of belonging come first. SASSQUAD TRAIL RUNNERS We are a community of SASQUATCH-lovin' trail runners and hikers.
