TRAIL PARTY HANDBOOK COURSE DESCRIPTION We use the same 5K loop from our Frosty Fat Sass Trail Party in January. There are portapottys at the start/finish area. There's 289 ft of gain. The course is a great mix of mellow carriage roads (dirt or gravel wide trails) and a bit of technical singletrack with rocks and roots. The first mile is a wide dirt trail. The 1/2 mi 200+ ft descent at mile one is very rocky from erosion. There is a 100 ft climb at mile 2.5. The last mile is a singletrack with rocks and roots. This is a GREAT intro to the trails if this is your first event or you're just starting out. If you're going to be out there for 3 or 6 hours, we recommend a grippy shoe that can give ya some comfort over rocks and roots. We will always provide a detailed trail conditions report leading up to
the race and will include recommendations for any winter traction devices! You can download the gpx file and map below. Trekking poles are allowed at all of our events. You can download the gpx and map from our website. FAQ's Q: Can I have a pacer?A: As with all of our events, Squatchers over the age of 60 and AWD (athletes with disabilities) can have a pacer/guide at any time. Please use this form to pre-register your pacers. Pacers are not allowed for other runners and hikers without prior approval from the Trail Party Director.Q: Can I sign my kids up for the Squatchy Leftovers?A: Yes! This is a family friendly event. Be sure to register your child separately and agree to the waiver for minors. And make sure to keep track of Daniel before during and after the event. We only have 1 search-party and they're already out there looking for Sasquatch.Q: What's the weather like in West Orange, NJ in November?A: Cold. Snow. Maybe Hail. Balmy? Dress warm. Bring layers. Be smart.Q: I could get
lost in a brown paper bag. Will the course be marked?A: Wax on, right hand. Wax off, left hand. Wax on, wax off. Breathe in through nose, out the mouth. Wax on, wax off. Don't forget to breathe, very important. We will have bright colored ribbons along the course and plenty at all of the turns.Q: I don't want to run, are there any volunteer opportunities?A: Yes! We always need Sassy Volunteers! Please email us if you would like to volunteer: [email protected] Q: If I sign up for the 10K but don't feel like running another loop once I finish the first one, can I stop running?A: Yes. Participants can drop down to any distance mid-race if needed. Please let the race timer know if you are dropping down in distance or leaving the race.Q: Can I bring my dog?A: Your pup cannot come to this race. Our liability insurance does not cover dogs in the race. Thank you for cooperating!Q: Me and my friend aren't registered for the race, but we're still planning on coming to
run. We won't eat from the aid station or take a medal or swag. This is okay, right?A: NO THIS IS NOT OKAY. This is called being a "race bandit" and it is stealing. Not paying for a race and running the race is stealing from the race organization (even if you're not taking food or swag). Don't do this at a Sassquad trail party or ANY other race. It's not okay. And if you hear about someone else doing this, call them out. If you bandit a race, you will be banned from registering for any of our Sassquad events.Q: This is my first Trail Party, what do I need to know?A: Sweep the Leg. Do you have a problem with that, Mr. Lawrence? No mercy.. Seriously, we are SO EXCITED that you are choosing a Sassquad event for your first trail race! This is a great choice for your first race because these trails have a bit of everything! You'll run on easy carriage roads, technical singletracks and enjoy flat trails and hilly trails. You're going to LOVE it! SQUATCH DISCOUNTS Sassquad Trail Running is proud

Please take the time to double-check your calendar before registering for a Trail Party. Please understand that we do not offer refunds under any circumstances. If you notify us via email (not through social media, text, or phone call) more than 21 days from the date of the Trail Party, we will extend a deferral to any of our events that fall within one calendar year of the Trail Party that you were registered for, minus 15% of the registration fee that you originally paid.
If you sustain an injury less than 21 days from the race date, we will extend a 100% deferral if you come to that race to volunteer. For distances less than 50K, you'll need to volunteer for at least 4 hours and for 50M+ distances, you'll need to volunteer for at least 8 hours to get a 100% deferral. If the race that you want to drop from is sold-out with an active wait-list and are able to fill your spot: if you notify us via email (not through social media, text or phone call) at least 3 days before the race, we will extend a deferral to any of our events that fall within one calendar year of the Trail Party that you were registered for, minus 15% of the registration fee that you originally paid. The race credit is the amount that you paid for the race, minus 15% (total credit does not including UltraSignUp fees) so you will need to cover any difference in fees; refunds will not be issued if the deferred event costs less than your race credit. You can only defer one time so please
double-check that you can make the race you're deferring to. PREGNANCY, ADOPTION, & POSTPARTUM POLICYWhether planned or unplanned, the beginning or end of a pregnancy requires healing and recovery time. We are committed to supporting you in this regard. If you are experiencing a pregnancy or postpartum healing and recovery, or have adopted a child, we are pleased to offer a deferral of up to three years from the current event. Simply send us an email and we will arrange the deferral for you. This deferral policy includes partners and spouses and is also extended to folks who are going through the IVF process. COMMUNITY CARE DEFERRAL POLICYWe recognize that the current climate around immigration enforcement, including ICE activity, is creating real fear and barriers to training, travel, and participation. Any registered participant who feels unsafe may request a deferral of their race entry for up to three years from the original race date, no questions asked. For anyone who still wants to
participate but is feeling hesitant, our Squatch Together Program offers the option to be paired with another runner or hiker for support before, during, and after race day. Your safety, dignity, and sense of belonging come first. SASSQUAD TRAIL RUNNING We are a community of SASQUATCH-lovin' trail runners and hikers. Our goal is to provide FUN and challenging events for runners of all ages and paces. We like to think that we have a good sense of humor, a full arsenal of sarcastic wit, useless trivia facts and a deep appreciation for cinematic masterpieces (as evidenced multiple times already). In honor of the Boys & Girls Club Day for Kids, our 6th annual 5K to Wellness is scheduled for Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center in Branch Brook Park, Newark, NJ.
The Boys & Girls Club of Newark (BGCN) is an after-school program in Newark. We are more than an after-school program. We believe in supporting children from a holistic approach. On-site at the Boys & Girls Club of Newark, we have a pediatric dental center that provides no cost to low-cost dental services to children in the community, food distributions, vision care, and social and emotional support to children who attend the program.
Our first 5K fundraiser in 2021, spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic that illuminated more access to care, allowed us to hire an additional wellness support staff to expand our wellness program. In addition, last year’s event catalyzed us to launch our mental and behavioral health clinic in October 2022. With your participation, we can expand our mental and behavioral service to our members and the greater Newark community by hiring additional licensed mental health practitioners. Additionally, your support will provide families access to nutrition education, case management to address immediate daily needs and dental and vision care. BGCN requests your support to make our 5th annual 5K to Wellness a success!
When you race with us, you will get cool stuff, too! You will receive a t-shirt and a 5K run/walk finisher medal. The race will take place on a USATF-certified course and is sanctioned.
Age Group Awards (M&F Overall Top 3, 15 & under, 16 -19, 20 - 29, 30 - 39, 40 - 49, 50 - 59, 60 - 69, 70+ )
Join us, as we would love to take a 5K run/walk to Wellness with you!
Parking Information
There is parking located at the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center. Additional free parking is available at a side parking lot at 987-1051 Franklin Ave, Newark, NJ 07107. There is a path from this lot leading into the park. You must cross the street toward the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center (a landmark near the start of the race).

Over the years, the Chatham Turkey Trot has become a family holiday tradition that offers expert and novice runners alike the opportunity to spend time with family, friends, and neighbors, to raise funds for our first responders and diabetes research and education, and to break a sweat before the big meal.
I encourage you navigate through our website to learn more about our beneficiaries, to view photos and videos of past Trots, and to read about the local businesses who have supported our efforts over the years.
