Come join your fellow Birchleggers for the Third Annual bicycle ride on one of the nicest bicycle rail trails in Minnesota on Thursday, August 13, 2026. This well-kept paved trail goes for 28.5 miles from Wayzata to Lester Prairie, Minnesota, past Lake Minnetonka and Lake Waconia. The trail is in Hennepin and Carver counties and goes through the cities of Spring Park, Mound, St. Bonifacius, Mayer, and New Germany.
Riders can do the full round trip of 57 miles by parking in Wayzata, or shorter distances of 38 miles by parking in Mound, 29 miles by parking in St. Bonifacius, and even 13 miles by parking in Mayer. See links to parking lots below:
The plan would be that the riders doing the shorter distances would join the longer group riders at each location and then ride into Lester Prairie together for lunch at the Central Café, also known as “Mary Kate’s Bitchin Kitchen” for home cooked food! The Central Café only accepts cash, so please bring money.

Dakota Rail Trail at Mayer, MN The 2026 We Walk Event will be held Saturday Sept 26, 2026 on the Dakota Rail trail west of the Twin Cities, Minneapolis & St Paul, Minnesota. We feature short to long walking distances: 10 km, 13.1 miles, 26.2 miles or 50 km.The new course was selected by walkers to be walker-friendly. The paved asphalt trail follows an old railroad bed on the western outskirts of the Twin Cities. The races will start/finish in Mayer, MN. The Mayer Lutheran High School will be the starting/finishing facility The Dakota Rail Trail is close to the many amenities of the Minneapolis/St Paul metro area. Walk On! This is an event designed for walkers. We welcome all walkers, including, but not limited to, ordinary walkers, fitness walkers, power walkers, nordic walkers, race walkers, hikers, walk/runners, wheelers and riders. One unusual feature of this event is that we have a speed limit of 10:18 minutes per mile. Your result will show a minimum pace of 10:18/mile (with
corresponding finish time). So, if you finish in 2:10:00 for the marathon, we will report it in the results as 4:30:00. We recommend that if you are fast, find another event. Style of Walking Walking means that at least one foot appears to be touching the ground at all times. Strolling, hiking, fitness walking, power walking and ordinary walking all follow this rule, as does Nordic walking and race walking. Nordic Walking means that you must walk and use one walking pole in each hand on every step. Race Walking means that you must follow USA Track & Field rule 232.2: “[…] a progression of steps so taken that the [race] walker makes contact with the ground so that no visible (to the human eye) loss of contact occurs. The advancing leg must be straightened (i.e., not bent at the knee) from the moment of first contact with the ground until the leg is in the vertical upright position.” Mixture of Walking and Running means that you walk part of the time and run or jog part of the time. For more
information on this style, check out the web site of Jeff Galloway, the inventor of the Galloway Run-Walk-Run method. Wheeling means you use a self-propelled non-electric wheel chair. Riding means you ride in stroller or other wheeled conveyance propelled by others. A Rider must be a member of a team that includes at least one pusher. Registration Dates The Discounted Early Tier is closes on April 1.T-Shirts can be ordered as an 'Add-On' up to Aug 15th. Use the 'Store' tab to order T-shirts. Late registration from Sept 1 - 24 has higher fees. There is no race day registration. Event's current local time: 3:35 AM CT
Why the SISU Backyard Ultra?
The SISU Backyard Ultra at Lake Rebecca brings together running, grit, community, and a true Finnish touch — complete with a sauna and swim option after your run.Inspired by the Finnish word sisu — meaning determination, toughness, resilience, and the willingness to keep going when things get hard — this race is built to challenge runners of all experience levels. The format is simple, but the challenge is not: runners complete a 4.167-mile loop every hour, on the hour. Finish the loop with time to spare, and you can rest, refuel, change gear, hit the sauna, take a swim, or get ready for the next start. When the next hour begins, everyone still in the race starts again. If you do not finish the loop within the hour, or you are unable to start the next loop on time, your race is over. Everyone else keeps going. That is the beauty of the backyard ultra: there is no set finish line. Your goal might be one loop, a half marathon, a marathon, 50K, 50 miles, 100 miles, or simply one more loop than you thought you could do. At SISU, every runner gets to define their own version of success. Our loop at Lake Rebecca will include a mix of gravel, asphalt, and trail, giving runners a scenic and varied course throughout the day and night.Whether you are attempting your first backyard ultra, chasing a new distance, or just coming to experience something different, SISU is designed to be hard, welcoming, memorable, and fun.Come run one loop. Come chase your first ultra. Come see how far you can go.Bring your crew, bring your friends, bring your stubbornness. This is SISU.

THE THUMBS UP MOVEMENT
Thumbs Up was founded in 2014 by several community members in honor of two great men, Bob Schmit and Chuck Dahlheimer, who, like many others, took their lives after living in silence from a mental illness. Thumbs Up is all about EMBRACING those struggling and breaking the stigma around mental health, connecting, supporting, and encouraging one another to talk about their feelings and challenges and to "KEEP MOVING FORWARD."
We are dedicated to educating and teaching about mental illness, the warning signs of suicide, what you can do to help others who struggle, and community awareness initiatives.
So, let's UNITE to help others to KEEP MOVING FORWARD.
MISSION STATEMENT
Bringing awareness to mental health and providing support and resources to all.
#KEEPMOVINGFORWARD
