Program Description:The FSRC Half Marathon Training Program is ideal for the first-time or intermediate half-marathoner, and is a great way to improve your running and meet other runners in our community. Each participant is given a training plan including recommendations for mileage, cross-training, and days off. While some runs will need to be done on your own, volunteer coaches lead group runs twice a week. Group runs are encouraged, but not mandatory. The FSRC Community Forum provides a place to coordinate additional runs with other participants, and get support and advice from more experienced participants and your volunteer coaches. We try our best to answer your questions, or at least connect you with someone who can. Participants must be at least 16 years of age on program start date.

You must be a paid member of FSRC to register for this training. If you are not a member, it's only $25 to join FSRC and you get this training and so much more. Click on https://steeplechasers.org/membership/join/ to learn more and follow the instructions to join. If you think you are already a paid member of the club and you can't register, please check the spelling of the name you used to join the club, using https://runsignup.com/Club/SearchForRenew/668. Once you've joined the club, or renewed your club membership, come back here to register for the training.

Cost: $0 for current Steeplechasers members

    Prerequisites:

To help protect against injury, we strongly recommend you are:

    • Consistently running or run-walking (at any speed) 3 days a week or more, for at least 6 months

    • Comfortable running or run-walking 5-6 mile long runs

    • Have the blessing of your physician if you have some sort of medical issue that may affect your participation (heart issues, orthopedic concerns, etc.)

    To Register:

    Please complete all steps:

    (1) Make sure you are a paid member of the club by checking https://steeplechasers.org/membership/registered-members/. If not already a paid member, you need to join before registering for the training program. You can renew or join at https://runsignup.com/fsrc. Click Renew to renew your membership or Sign Up to join. If you're asked to claim your account, please see https://steeplechasers.org/membership/claim-account-rsu/

    (2) Register for the training program by clicking Sign Up link at https://runsignup.com/fsrchalftraining

    (3) Ask to join the Half Marathon Training Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/fsrchalftraining. The Facebook page is our primary means of communicating to keep you updated on when and where runs are occurring, to help you find support and get your questions answered by your coaches and fellow participants, and to notify you of cancellations due to weather.

Note: you may be interested in helping us test another means of communication from the coaches and among trainees, called FSRC Community. This is a forum we are considering for club communication as an alternative for Facebook. If you are interested in participating in the beta test for this, please navigate to https://community.steeplechasers.org/g (you may have to log in or create an account), then find Half Marathon Training Beta, then click Request.

WHAT IS GIRLS ON THE RUN?

Girls on the Run (GOTR) offers programming designed for all girls to build confidence, increase their level of physical activity, and learn essential life skills. Our research-based curriculum creatively combines movement with confidence-building lessons and activities, providing an after-school program for 3rd through 8th grade girls. With programming that inspires girls of all backgrounds and abilities to recognize their individual strengths, participants build connection and community in a welcoming team setting. They explore topics including emotions, expressing empathy, and standing up for themself and others all while being in a safe and judge-free space with their peers. Their season culminates with a 5K celebration, where girls experience confidence and unstoppable strength as they cross the finish line. All Girls on the Run 5K participants are encouraged to go at their own pace, their Happy Pace.

Come join our RRCA certified coaches as we launch our Spring Half Marathon Training Program, with the goal race of the Frederick Half Marathon on May 3, 2026. Whether you plan to do this race or have other running goals this Spring, join us for a FREE organized series of speedwork and longer runs. We do hope you will become a member of the Baltimore Road Runners Club (BRRC), but all are welcome. Note that registration for the Frederick Half Marathon is NOT included, and you are encouraged to sign up if you plan this as a goal race.

As an added bonus, the training group will continue with a bridge training plan to keep you race ready for the Baltimore 10 Miler on June 6, 2026. That’s like getting two training plans for the price of none!

    Half Marathon Training Group Details:

Training plan start date: January 25, 2026 (first meeting will be January 28)

Speed work: Carver Center for Arts and Technology Track, 938 York Rd, Baltimore, MD 21204

Day: Wednesdays at 7:00PM. (Beginning Jan 28)

Long runs: Loch Raven Reservoir (LRR) –Corner of Morgan Mill Road & Loch Raven Drive

Day: Saturdays at 7:00AM (Beginning Jan 31)

It is recommended that you have run at least 6 miles before. If you are a brand new runner, we suggest checking out the beginner runner/5k group that the BRRC offers starting in March.

This is a great group for first time half marathoners as well as experienced runners who are looking to improve their race time. It is also a great way to get involved with the club and meet other runners in our community.

    Registration is FREE.

    FAQ:

What if I am not able to attend every workout?

That’s ok! No one is taking attendance. Your schedule only allows you to come for track night? Great, come for track night! Your schedule only allows you to show up every other Saturday? We don’t mind. Come when you can.

Do I have to sign up via the RunSignUp link?

No, you do not need to be a registered group member to show up. BUT, if you sign up using the link provided it will be easier to stay updated on group news. The training plan will be distributed using the registrant list. We also send emails about cancellations, changes in location, and general news.

Do I have to be a BRRC member to join the training group?

No, but why wouldn’t you want to be a member? For only $24 a year ($30 for a family), you can get access to many free races, fun runs, track meets, and more. Plus, you get to be a part of this great running community that we have in Baltimore. So while you technically don’t need to be a member to train with us, we highly recommend it. Join here.
