12-HR OVERVIEW
Athletic Equation will be hosting its 18th Annual 12-Hour ATR on 13 SEPT 2025. The field will be limited to 100 Runners. We will be building off of the successes of our other ATRs. In our first 17 runnings, participants have claimed over 30,000 miles on the Prince William Forest Park trails. Bottom Line: Not the fastest, but the runner with the most mileage WINS THE SERIES!!! Imagine That....
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The 12-HR ATR will be held in Prince William Forest Park (PWFP), www.nps.gov/prwi just outside of Triangle, VA in Prince William County. The Park is 17,000+ acres and has over 40 miles of trails. The course will be on a DIFFERENT set of trails than our 24-Hour ATR. The course will be a 6.5 mile looped figure eight (8). It is designed to challenge the novice and experienced trail runners alike. It will be 100% trails, some single track, and some fire road. The approximate elevation gain/loss is 650 feet / per loop. The terrain will have undulating hills with some nice ascents and descents to keep trail runners on their game and keep them honest. There will be rocks; there will be roots, dirt, and mud if it rains. There will be two aid stations. The primary aid station will be the Start/Finish. It will have a plentiful array of sustenance (food) to cover everyone through out the event. The second aid station will ONLY have H2O. The 12-HR is concluded with the awards ceremony and Post-Race Meal for participants and crews.
Event's current local time: 4:39 AM ET
Run 50 miles on the trails that gave birth to the Central Intelligence Agency
Prior to World War II, the United States created the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), which served as the United States’ first clandestine intelligence gathering agency, and the predecessor of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Prince William Forest was used as a primary location for training OSS spies for infiltrating enemy territory in the Asian and European theatres during World War II. Roads and trails pay tribute in name to the park's history as the United States' first training center for spies. Additionally, the cabins provided in certain areas of the park for camping, are the original cabins utilized by the "nameless" soldiers as they learned to ply their trade as a spy.
Race and Course Information
The OSS/CIA 50 miler is (as its name suggests) a 50 mile event. The course is a 25+ mile loop run primarily on single track, with some fire road, and several bridge and road (NPS road) crossings. The 25+ mile loop is run twice to give you 50+ miles. Starting in 2023, we will incorporate a night marathon into the fray. It will start at 11:55p.m.. This will give athletes 8 hours and 35 minutes to complete the one loop event. All cut-offs in place for 50 mile will be incorporated into the night marathon.
Aid Stations
Two fully-stocked main aid stations at the start/finish (Telegraph road pavilion), and the half-way point for each loop (Oak Ridge Camp Ground). There will be two additional "mini-aid" stations with a smaller selection of food, and water and Tailwind located where South Valley Trail intersects Scenic Drive, and where Burma Road intersects Scenic Drive.
Crews/Pacers
Crews will only be allowed at the Telegraph Road Pavilion Start/Finish line. The National Park Service has asked that we not allow crew to move around the park after settling in for the race/evening, for safety reasons. All crews and pacers must be in the Park and at Telegraph Road pavilion before night fall. This is a trial event with us and the Park, folks who do not comply jeopardize our compliance with the Permit and could destroy our chances to host future events. Pacers will be allowed for all runners beginning at the second loop from Telegraph Road Pavilion.
General information about the Park
The Prince William Forest Park established in 1936 has 37 miles of trails on it's 15,000+ acres, and is the largest protected natural area in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region.
Event's current local time: 4:51 AM ET
OVERVIEW
What is the No Man’s 50K Challenge? Well, it is exactly as it sounds. It is a trail running endurance challenge for Women! Hence the name: No Man’s 50K Challenge. Okay, it is a slight play on words. Men, husbands, boyfriends, children, family and significant others will be part of the challenge, just not in a running capacity. The co-race directors for this race and series will be Katie and Zoe Papadopoulos. The creations are born out of simplicity. Our idea for a Women’s only trail race and series started in 2016. Our eldest daughter Katie, age 8 at the time, wanted to know there were so many men in trail races and said “There are not enough women in your races.” A simple observation made by a kid who has been attending ultras since she was an infant. Dad responds, “Yeah, I know.” Katie answers, “Well, let’s make one and I can do your job.”And so an adventure for the ages begins!

Junior Tri-it!: Junior Tri-it! This course is designed for first time triathletes. Participants will begin the triathlon with a swim in the SPCC heated therapy pool (4 lengths) followed by a 1/8 mile bike ride before finishing the race with a 1/10 mile run. The course will be held on the Severna Park Community Center grounds. The Junior Tri-IT is an opportunity for younger participants to develop their triathlon skills.
Timing: We encourage everyone to enjoy their experience of a recreational triathlon. In order to keep the floors as dry as possible, there will only be a water station at the start/finish line that racers will pass as they go around the mall. While water/drinks are allowed on the course, there will be no water cups while on the course except for water at the food court. Your own water, bags, and gear are fine to bring! We will have waves starting/finishing in the food court that will provide plenty of tables and chairs to store your items. We cannot allow pets, selfie sticks, glass, or weapons. Note that neither Arundel Mills nor Peake Events is responsible for lost belongings.

The closest parking would be the Maryland Live Casino parking garage (free), and use the Food Court Entrance. Nando Peri Peri is located next to that Food Court entrance for reference.
Distance Disclaimer
Please note: Course distance and start times may adjust slightly based on registration numbers and logistics. Waved starts will help ensure plenty of space for running through the mall corridors. The 5k course will be four laps around the mall and is ~1/10th of a kilometer longer than an exact 5K.
Strollers and Children Note
The 5K race will have runners completing four laps around the mall, making for tight spots, especially in two sections that require a small ramp to go up/down. Runners can also opt to run up and down the three stairs as they see fit. Strollers will only be allowed during the Fun Run/walk and must start at the back. Any child participating in the 5K should be able to maintain a jogging pace and stick to the right-hand side of the course. We love kids, but know they like to take off and run around without always looking around their surroundings. Please ensure your child is both old enough for the 5K and can follow proper race etiquette. We invite everyone to join the Fun Run/Walk!
