    Refund & Cancellation Policy

There are no refunds or transfers for this race. In the event of extreme temperature/humidity, severe weather, or other potentially unsafe conditions, the event may be cancelled at the discretion of the Annapolis Striders and/or Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

    Course

Four laps of the 400 meter Severna Park High School track plus an additional 9.344 meters (30 feet 7.874 inches). (One mile is exactly 1,609.344 meters.)

    Heats

The event will begin with a heat for youth runners aged 10 or younger starting at 8:00 AM. Subsequent heats for adults & kids over 10 will be conducted based on estimated finish time, from slower to faster. A time range will be announced prior to each heat, and runners whose estimated finish times fall within that range should gather at the start. The time range may be adjusted if it appears the heat will have too many or too few participants.

Upon the conclusion of each heat, the next heat will be announced and will begin as soon as possible, so please be present near the start line and ready to run when your time range is called!

It is perfectly fine if you wind up finishing faster or slower than your heat’s announced finish time range! That said, please try to run in a heat appropriate to your speed so that we can minimize lapping & passing. (In other words, if you are a 6:00 miler, please don’t run in the 10:00+ heat!)

As our participation numbers vary from year to year, we cannot provide a definitive schedule of heats ahead of time. For reference, our 2023 event included seven heats in total with an average of around 20 participants in each heat, and the final heat started at 9:23 AM. Some years have seen the final heat begin as late as 10:00 AM.

    Timing

This event is chip-timed by Maryland Timing. Please pick up your timing chip prior to the event and be sure to attach it to the top of your shoe (parallel to the ground) prior to your heat. After your heat, don’t forget to remove the chip and return it. Preliminary & final results will be published here on RunSignup and on the Maryland Timing web site. Please contact [email protected] with any timing issues.

    Race Rules

No headphones/earbuds/speakers, baby joggers/strollers, other wheeled conveyances, or animals will be allowed during the event. Please stay aware of your fellow participants, pass on the right (outside), and avoid sudden stops or lateral movement.

    Awards

Following the final heat, awards will be handed out for first place male & female overall, first place male & female Masters (40 & over), and top two males & females in mostly five-year age groups. (10 & under, 11-14, five year groups from 15-19 up to 75-79, and 80+.) No duplication of awards (i.e. overall & Masters do not also get age group awards). Award categories may be adjusted based on participation.

    Volunteer

If you’d like to help out on race morning, please contact [email protected]. Volunteers are able to both volunteer and participate in this race!

Anne Arundel County, Maryland is home to fun and challenging mountain bike trails in the Bacon Ridge Natural Area and Annapolis Waterworks Park. This year, MORE is breaking ground on trails in the Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park. The new 7 miles of trail in CHMP will provide not only additional options for trail users but also get us closer to having a unified trail system in the county. Annapolis was also recently designated as a Trail Town by the International Mountain Bicycling Association, in recognition of its commitments to developing and stewarding trail systems that strengthen community life.

What better way to celebrate these milestones than with an inaugural AACo Epic!

Experience the trails in Bacon Ridge, Annapolis Waterworks, and Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park through an epic ride! Choose from 20-, 30-, and 40-mile options that offer a fun challenge to riders of all skill levels.

The Kenzie Rose Youth Triathlon is a multisport race geared toward the youngest competitors, ages 5-15 - the future of the sport. This is a USAT-sanctioned race, and will be timed. PLEASE NOTE THAT AS A USA TRIATHLON EVENT, YOUR CHILD SHOULD BE IN THE CATEGORY FOR THEIR AGE AS OF 12/31/2025!!!!!!

The swim will be held at St. Andrews Swim & Tennis Club in Severna Park, MD.

The bike and run courses will be held on the trails of Kinder Farm Park, directly adjacent to the swim. Please visit the Course Info page for detailed maps of all courses.

    About Kenzie

When Mackenzie Rose Beach was born on July 10, 2015, no one knew that this tiny baby possessed the spirit of a warrior. She was a happy little girl, and brought joy to everyone around her, especially her parents, Kate and Andrew, and her big sister, Maddie. However, life as a typical baby came to a screeching halt when, on March 22, 2016, Mackenzie began vomiting and was taken to the Emergency Room, where a scan showed a buildup of fluid as a result of a mass at the base of her brain. Mackenzie underwent surgery to insert a drain for the excess fluid and remove a portion of the tumor for biopsy. The pathology results returned as a malignant cancer, known as Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT). This is an extremely rare, aggressive cancer seen in only 3 children out of 1,000,000. Mackenzie endured many brain surgeries and flourished under a protocol by St. Jude, administered at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, involving an experimental drug and chemotherapy. In July

2016, a scan showed the result everyone was praying for – no evidence of disease! As Mackenzie and her family prepared for the next step in the treatment process – traveling to Boston in October 2016 for 6 weeks of radiation – an MRI confirmed the worst possible news. Despite being cancer-free just four months prior, the tumor had returned and spread to other areas in her tiny body. Mackenzie fought with all she had, but she passed away in the arms of her sister, and surrounded by her mother and father, on December 18, 2016.

Kenzie Rose, as she was affectionately known, showed us all what is important in life – family, spending time together, enjoying our blessings, and not taking a single moment for granted. We all hope to make her proud by continuing to live as she would want us to live. To honor her memory, we are organizing this triathlon to raise awareness for childhood cancer and as a fundraiser to support The Mackenzie Rose Foundation. The Foundation was incorporated at the beginning of the year to provide essential items to families experiencing unexpected admissions to the pediatric oncology unit at Children’s National Medical Center. With your generosity, we will be able to fill and deliver care packages containing everyday essentials directly to the hospital. These “Kenzie Kits” will allow parents to spend more time with their sick child instead of worrying about picking up a toothbrush, notebook, or snack - all things that are often forgotten with an unexpected hospital admission. All proceeds

from this event will fund the Foundation to help provide comfort and support to other families dealing with this devastating disease.
