Forest Fundamentals sessions introduce you to key off-track navigation skills. The sessions are hands-on as we focus on map and contour interpretation as well as skills for cross-country navigation and orienteering. Compass use is introduced as well as tools to help you navigate where you want to go. Our team of experienced and friendly coaches are ready to help you progress your navigation skills.
These sessions are perfect for orienteers wishing to progress to bush events or to improve skills for moderate level orienteering. Skills are also transferable to adventure racing, bushwalking and rogaining. We welcome all ages and experience levels but generally recommend a minimum age of 12 years for these sessions.
For this session, meet at Picnic Table 1 in the Manly Dam Reserve. The Reserve can be accessed via King St, Manly Vale. The picnic table is the closest one to the entry gate. There's paid parking inside the Reserve or park outside and walk in. The picnic table is sheltered and the training session will be on even if showers are forecast.
What to bring: We recommend long pants for starting to get off-track, enclosed and comfortable shoes for walking, a hat, water and snack plus a compass (if you have one). We will also have loan compasses available.
As usual with our events, due to landowner concerns, this is a no dog event. No smoking too.

2026 SPRING CYCLE VOLUNTEERS 11th October 2026 Spring Cycle brings together thousands of cyclists of all ages and abilities to participate in NSW’s largest family-friendly recreational bike ride. An event like this requires many volunteers to assist in the smooth running of the event. This is your opportunity to be part of something special, whether its in the start/finish village, out on the course or helping set up or pack down. We need you all, your energy and support. Volunteer Roles Venue Bump In There are three venues which need bumping in on Sunday. * St Leonards Park (North Sydney) * Pirrama Park (Pyrmont) * Parramatta Park (Parramatta) We do have logistics teams to perform most of the heavy lifting, so this role includes hanging signage, setting up marquees and water stations, and moving tables and chairs into position. Course Marshals Course marshals guide our riders from the start line through to their designated finish location. This role is a static position that requires each
volunteer to provide directional instruction to riders as they pass by. This is a fulfilling position, that is extremely well received by the riders, police and traffic controllers. Shift times are around four hours, and it is possible to choose a location convenient to you. Start Site Located in St Leonards Park, adjacent to North Sydney Oval, Start Venue Marshals will perform a number of vital roles. The shift is an early one, from about 5.00am, but also finishes quite early, at around 9.30am. Jobs include: * Rider Sign on / Rider Pack Collection * On The Day Registration / Changes * Merchandise Sales * Start Line Marshalling * Bike rack attendant * Baggage Tent * Water Station *

Under Sydney's iconic Coca-Cola billboard in Kings Cross, Andy and Michael founded Kings Cross Track Club in January 2015 with a simple belief: running is for joy, and it belongs to everyone. Born in the gritty heart of the old red-light district, the crew rejected the usual running club gatekeeping. No pace groups. No fees. No sign-ups. Around 30 runners of every background and ability show up week after week to explore Sydney's streets together, from speedsters to lopers. The vibe is warm, free, and grounded, with conversation woven into every run. Tuesday evenings at 6:30 pm, they gather at the Coke sign and head out for seven kilometres through Botanic Gardens, past the Opera House, and around Rushcutters Bay. Nobody left behind, every pace welcome.
