Last Man Standing Run

This unique challenge is for those dedicated runners that like to push themselves a bit more than others. As a Countdown to ONE participant you will run as many single miles as you can based on the time requirements for each. The course is a 1 mile loop. The start/finish for each mile is the same. All participants receive a finisher medal.

Here's how it works...

Each mile must be completed in less than the required time to advance to the next mile. If you fail to complete any of the miles in the allotted time you're out of the competition.

The first mile must be completed in 15 minutes or under, the second mile must be completed in 13 minutes or less, 3rd mile in 11 minutes or less, 4th mile in 10 minutes or less. These 4 miles make up the Bronze category. You must complete all 4 miles under the time cut offs to earn a bronze pin that can be attached to your medal.

The next wave would be the Silver category, 9 1/2, 9, 8 1/2 and 8 minute miles. You must complete all 8 miles under the time cut offs to earn the Silver pin to attach to your medal.

If you're still standing, it's onto the Gold category, 7 1/2, 7, 6 1/2 and 6 minute miles. You must complete all 12 miles under the time cut offs to earn the gold pin to attach to your medal.

If we have to go beyond this to get to our last person standing we will continue to drop each mile time requirement by 30 seconds.

If you finish any of the miles in under the required time to finish you are welcome to stretch, refuel and rest. There will be a two (2) minute separation between each leg of this ultimate challenge.

As much as this is a competition to get to the last male and female standing, it's also a personal challenge for those not in the running to win it all. Set your goal, up your training and achieve your personal best!

All participants will receive a super cool and quite large finisher medal. Depending on the category you completed your last single mile successfully you will receive a pin to add to your finisher medal (Bronze, Silver, Gold).

Top Male and top Female finishers will receive a cash prize of $125 (each)

On April 24, 2021, William "Bill" Scott Jr., passed away suddenly. At the time of passing, Bill was the President of the Syracuse Teachers Association (STA) representing approximately 3,000 Syracuse City School District staff and 20,000 students. Prior to his presidency, Bill spent 10 years as a school social worker and 5 years as the 4th Vice President of STA. Throughout all the stages of his career, Bill worked tirelessly to advocate for his colleagues, students, and their families and he was a fierce advocate for all! In 2022, we hosted our inaugural Bill Scott Memorial 5K Walk/Run at Burnet Park, a place where Bill frequented for his own running. Through this race, monies have been raised to be put towards a scholarship for a Syracuse City School District senior who planned to major in Social Work or the Human Service Profession.

We will continue honoring Bill's memory and legacy by hosting our 5th annual race on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 9 AM. This year our race will be held in a new, flatter location - Onondaga Lake Parkway. The money raised from this event will continue to go towards a scholarship for a senior pursing a degree in Psychology or Human Services. In addition to the Syracuse City School District, this years scholarship will be open to seniors from Jamesville-Dewitt, Hannibal, and Whitesboro, all districts that played important roles in the lives of Bill and his children.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall female and male finishers.

New York Adult & Teen Challenge is a Christian residential discipleship program dedicated to helping individuals break free from life-controlling issues, including addiction, anxiety, and depression. Our mission is to see lives transformed through Christ as individuals begin to KNOW Christ, GROW in Christ, SERVE Christ, and SHARE what Christ has done for them.

With centers in Syracuse (Men and Women), Rochester, Buffalo, and Long Island officially opened back up, we are committed to providing hope and healing. However, our program is not supported by insurance or government funding—we rely entirely on the generosity of our community and fundraising events like our annual 5K Run/Walk for Recovery.

This event is more than just a race—it’s an opportunity to make a real difference. Every dollar raised goes directly to supporting and sponsoring the next individual seeking hope and restoration through our program. Participants can run or walk a traditional 5K while also engaging in peer-to-peer fundraising with their friends and family. Exciting prizes will be awarded based on fundraising achievements!
