63rd Annual Asbury Park Polar Bear Races

It's our 30th year!

Join us for a seaside race on a flat, partially shaded course through scenic Avon-by-the-Sea. Clocks and water stops at each mile. Shirts guaranteed to first 1,500 registered runners. All runners automatically entered in post-race raffle. Raffle prizes include season beach badges to the Avon-by-the-Sea beach. All proceeds benefit the Avon Volunteer First Aid Squad.

The Avon Volunteer First Aid Squad is a not-for-profit, 501c(3) organization that provides emergency medical and rescue services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at no charge, to residents and visitors to Avon-by-the-Sea. It has provided these services since 1931. The squad is staffed by volunteer EMTs and relies entirely on charitable contributions for all operating expenses.

Schedule for Bib and Shirt Pick-up:

Early Number & Shirt Pickup (at Avon First Aid Building, 520 Main Street, Avon) Thursday May 28, 5:00 - 7:00 pm; and Friday May 29, 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

Late Number & Shirt Pickup (at the pavilion on the Boardwalk at Norwood Avenue, Avon) Saturday May 30, 7:00 - 8:30 am.

EXPECT LINES IF YOU PICK UP ON SATURDAY. Pick up Thursday or Friday if possible, to avoid the lines.

There will be NO bib / shirt pick-up on Wednesday.

Come run, walk or fly at the Superhero Sprint on Flag Day on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

We will have special flag day awards. Wear your red, white and blue.

You will be a true Superhero by helping support local charity Love, Parker.

There is an open 2 mile run or walk and a half mile event for those 12 and under.

Awards for top finishers and best dressed Superheroes.

All get a Superhero Cape and T shirt. Must register by 18 May 2026 to assure your t shirt.

Walk, Run or Fly at the Superhero Sprint!

The series, established in 1964 by Shore A.C, is a weekly 5k race and 1 mile kids run held on the perimeter of Lake Takanassee. The Kids 1 mile run (1 lap around the lake) starts at 6:30pm. The 5K (4 laps around the lake) starts at 6:45pm. Medals are awarded to the top 3 overall finishers and age group winners in the 5K, and the top 3 girls and top 3 boys in the 1 mile run. Ribbons are awarded to all kids run participants. At the end of the series, consistent top performers earn overall series awards.

PARKING: Please enter via South Lake Road and park behind St. Michael’s Church, located at ​800 Ocean Ave, Long Branch, NJ.

RESULTS will be posted 1-2 days after each race on the Shore A.C. website at www.shoreac.org under "Our Events"

A summer tradition at the Jersey Shore! Fun 5k run/walk through beautiful Sea Girt, NJ. Great community event with Kids' Races and Activities, live music on the course, custom t-shirt, chip timing, medals and more!

AWARDS

​Top 5 Overall Open Male and Female Win CASH Prizes (and the prize money has been increased this year)!

Age group awards: 5 year age groups - Top 3 in each age group win custom Sheehan Classic beach towels and other awards

Over $1300 in prize money for the top finishers (men and women): 1st Place - $200; 2nd - $150; 3rd - $125; 4th - $100; 5th - $75.

Individual ​Age Group Awards - custom Sheehan Classic awards to the top 3 in each age group.

Team Competition! We will have a special award for the Winning Team(s) in each category. The team categories are:

Men's Teams, Women's Teams, Masters Men (40+), Masters Women (40+), Co-Ed Teams

(we will score the top 4 fastest times in each category. Co-ed teams must have a minimum of 2 females.)

We will also have an award for the team with the largest number of entrants.

The top male and female Asbury Park residents each win gift certificates from HydraPatch!

Raffle at the awards ceremony, compliments of our local sponsors.

Awards will be presented in Bradley Park after the youth races.

FRIDAY BIB PICK UP

The Outpost Running and Walking Co., located at 32 Church Street in Little Silver.

4:00 - 7:00 PM

There will also be a free shoe raffle and other giveaways for those who join us on Friday at the friendly confines of The Outpost

We strongly encourage you to join us on Friday at The Outpost if at all possible to avoid the line on race morning.

RACE TEES

Soft cotton tie-dye Asbury Park Sheehan Classic shirts to participants, first 1,200 to pick up their bib/shirt!

The first 1,000 people to pick up their bibs on Friday and Saturday will also get a drink ticket for The Robinson Ale House

Charity Partner: Again this year, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County.
