This year's race will be held in the Recreational and Physical Activity Center (RPAC) at The Ohio State University on Sunday, April 19th, 2026. This will count as a USAT Collegiate Nationals qualifier. An indoor triathlon is based on time rather than distance, allowing all levels of ability the opportunity to compete! There will be a 10 minute swim in the indoor competition pool. Then there is a 15 minute transition that allows you to change into biking clothes/get situated at your stationary bike. The stationary bike ride will last 20 minutes. A 5 minute transition is then given to allow you enough time to get to the track. Concluding the race is a 15 minute run on our indoor track. Prizes will be given out to our winners.

Prizes: This years prizes include a Roka Wetsuit! The top male and top female finishers will each be awarded a certificate to purchase a wetsuit.

Race Wave Assignments: Subject to some exceptions, collegiate racers will race first, followed by open racers. Preliminary wave assignments will be posted on April 12th, 2026 and will be emailed out. Any registrations after April 12th will be placed in the last waves.

We will not be taking requests for specific wave placements.

Registration Deadline: While there is no official registration deadline, the race does have a maximum capacity. Please, keep this in mind.

While VeloScience Bike Works is all about using the newest innovations and technology to enhance your cycling experience, we do still have a soft place in our hearts for the bikes of our youth that helped us find our love of cycling. We love to occasionally break out the old steel rig and wool jersey and throw down on a club ride! That's what this ride is about - reconnecting with the machines - and adventures - that made us fall in love with this beautiful sport!

Come join us for the coolest group ride you'll do all year! Ride the oldest bike you own (or can borrow!), wear the gear that reflects a lost era, and celebrate the heritage of cycling. We'll roll from VeloScience together at 9:00 am on Sunday, April 28, 2024 for a relaxed, conversational cruise over a flat to gently rolling 40-mile course. Behind us a 1953 Chevrolet pickup will perform SAG duties. The GPS route won't be published, because heck, you didn't need that in the good old days, right? Old fashioned queue sheets will be available for those who fear getting lost. We'll stop at Rusty Spokes Bike Shop in Pastaskala midway for drinks and snack and restroom breaks.

After the ride, we'll host a BBQ on our patio, complete with adult beverages.

We'll have some terrific prizes for a variety of categories....Scratchiest Wool Jersey, for example...so use your imagination, and do your best to follow the spirit of the event. Authenticity is key, but we won't discriminate if you join in the fun without digging deep into cycling history. And as a bonus: there will be PUPPIES! Because all the profits from this event will benefit CHA Animal Shelter. All of us at VeloScience are parents of adopted dogs or cats, and we love to promote a great cause.

Helmets are required, no matter how much they clash with your vintage gear, but we won't stop you if you wear a leather hairnet helmet from the '70s!

Registration will open on April 1, 2026!

    Indoor Triathlon

    • Swim 10 Minutes in 25 yard pool (4 feet depth)

    • Bike 30 Minutes on stationary cycle

    • Run 20 Minutes on treadmill.

The combined time for the swim, bike and run is 60 minutes, plus two transitions. The first transition between the swim and bike is ten minutes and the second transition between the bike to run is five minutes. Each heat will have a maximum of 6 participants. Three lanes of the pool will be used, with two swimmers in each lane. After completing the swim segment participants will have a 10 minute transition time to change and move to the cycle room for the bike segment. The run segment is upstairs using the treadmills.

Each participant will have 10 minutes for the swim, 30 minutes on the bike, and 20 minutes for the run, with the allotted transitions between activities. Fun and pressure-free, this event is great for both experienced triathletes and those competing in their first race.

Participants must be at least 18 years old to participate in this race.

    Relay Team option

As an alternative to an individual completing all three segments of the triathlon, a team of 2 or 3 can participate. The entry fee for a TEAM is $90.00. When registering a team, only one (1) person sets up the team, naming the team and pays the participation fee for the team. All team members must also register to provide your information and sign the waiver.

All three segments are done in sequence (swim, bike, run) and the distance (laps and miles) for each segment will be recorded. The results will be by total distance and by ranked scoring.

This event will benefit the OhioHealth Behavioral Medicine/Addiction Medicine Fellowship. All profits from the Tri McConnell will help with educating physicians in addressing the opioid epidemic. Some areas that physicians receive education in are: inpatient psychiatry, pregnant and postpartum women suffering from opioid use disorder, advocacy for changes in local, state and federal health policies, and hands on experience in outpatient recovery. Please see the Donation page to donate to this important and needed program. Your donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
