5k Fun Run Run

PLEASE BE AWARE -- Runners signing up between now and the race will not receive any promotional bags!

The 5K was a hit last year and we’re glad to bring it back to our annual Blueberry Festival in Montrose, PA! Come on out on Saturday, August 2nd for our Second Annual 5K and Fun Run. Work up an appetite on the race course, and then have some blueberry pancakes at our breakfast tent! We have family friendly events happening all day on the Village Green in Montrose, PA. If you're feeling extra competitive, sign up for our pie-eating contest Saturday afternoon! All proceeds from the Blueberry Festival (and 5K/Fun Run) benefit the Susquehanna Historical Society & Free Library Association.

The race will be run through the streets of quaint and picturesque Montrose. The 5K is a timed race, while the Fun Run is not.

5K AWARDS

Medals will be given to the top 3 male finishers and top 3 female finishers of the 5K in each age group:

12 & Under, 13-18, 19-30, 31-49, 50+

Cash prizes will be given to the top three overall Male and Female finishers as follows:

1st overall Male/Female - $100

2nd overall Male/Female - $75

3rd overall Male/Female - $50

There is a school award category being offered at this race that involves school athletic programs. If you are a school student, parent or immediate family member of a student, alumni, current or retired school employee, then you are eligible to race for your school. When signing up for the race, runners must identify what school they are affiliated with on the t-shirt size selection page. Scoring will be done the same as high school team cross country races: the top five males and top five females times of each school district will be used. Cash awards will be given to the three top scoring schools for both males and females and an additional cash award will be given to the school that registers the most overall participants. A check will be made out to the running program of each school receiving an award.

Cash awards for both Male and Female scores are as follows;

1st place school - $500

2nd place school - $300

3rd place school - $100

School with the most overall participants - $100

If you want to support the athletic department of a School District, please identify the school district when asked. It's a great way to show your school spirit!

All runners who pre-register by July 19th will receive an event T-shirt.

*Those registering after that date may receive a T-shirt if available. All participants for the 5K and the Fun Run must sign a waiver.

Stay for the BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL!!!!!

A Summer Biathlon is Cross Country running combined with Rifle Marksmanship

The 6K running race is divided into three parts:

First: The timing starts with waves of one or two runners leaving the start line every minute and running an approximately 1-mile loop. As you approach the shooting range at the end of the first running loop, you will run into the range, catching your breath, lie down in the prone position and pick up an easy to use .22 caliber target rifle. You shoot 5 shots at 4.5-inch metal knock down targets 33 meters away. For each missed target you are required to run a 70-meter penalty loop after the shooting stop. If course conditions do not permit a penalty loop, 25 seconds will be added to the runners overall time for each target missed.

Second: After this first shooting stop, you run out of the range and run the same 1-mile loop again. The second time at the range you will shoot 5 shots at the same type target from the standing position and run the 70-meter penalty loop for each missed target. If course conditions do not permit a penalty loop, 25 seconds will be added to the runners overall time for each target missed.

Third: Once you’ve completed the standing position, you run out of the range and run the 1-mile loop a final time ending at the finish line

The Pennsylvania Biathlon Club will provide .22 caliber rifles and ammunition for competitors. Competitors are allowed to use their own .22 caliber rifles, standard velocity ammunition, and a 5 round magazine. However there are strictly enforced restrictions for personal rifles - no semi-automatic rifles, must use standard velocity lead ammunition, and open sights or peep sights only.

The field size will be limited to the first 100 registrants. Awards for overall winners and age group winners will be given upon completion of the tabulation of race results.

This is a foot race over rugged terrain- No baby strollers, bikes, etc. Due to insurance restrictions, there are no dogs or other animals of any kind allowed on Camp Freedom property.

All first time participants are required to attend a pre-race biathlon Familiarization and Safety Clinic. Participants must check-in by 8:30 am on the day of the race.

7:00-8:30am Race check-in and bib pick up.

8:30-9:30am Familiarization Safety Clinic (mandatory for first-time participants)

Zero for personal rifles, practice range time

    10:00am Race begins

    What is Build-N-Athlete?

Build-N-Athlete is a nonprofit organization committed to ensuring every child has access to sports, regardless of financial circumstances. By eliminating the cost barriers associated with equipment, we strive to give all young athletes the opportunity to play, grow and compete. Through fundraising, community support and donations, we work to provide gear that allows kids to experience the many benefits of sports—from teamwork and discipline to confidence and resilience.

In addition to our 10K, 5K, and Walk, we’re excited to host a FREE Kids Fun Run as part of our #OperationTouchGrass initiative, which encourages kids to step away from screens and experience the joy of movement. The Kids Fun Run will take place after the awards ceremony, so be sure to stick around and cheer on the young athletes!

This event isn’t just about running—it’s about building confidence, fostering community and ensuring that every child has the chance to play.

Lace up your shoes and be a part of something bigger. Let’s build together!
