Middle Distance Road Run Standard Swim SwimRun Trail

As you step onto Orcas Island, take a moment to appreciate its lush beauty. Known as the “gem of the San Juans”, this horseshoe-shaped island offers a perfect blend of arts and culture, pristine lakes, and endless outdoor possibilities. The majority of the island’s 57 square miles are rural and hilly, which makes it a pleasure for drivers and a challenge for cyclists and trailer runners. The curving roads wind through forests, past artists’ studios, fields with old apple barns, and the occasional turn-of-the-century prune-drying barn.

Join us for our first EVER Annie Curtis Community Run!

Railroad surveyor Amos Bowman and his beloved wife Annie Bowman (maiden name Curtis) first arrived on Fidalgo Island in 1877.

Amos Bowman saw the sight as the “New York of the West” and encouraged business and industry to utilize its deep-water harbor and railroad. A post office was established in 1877 then in 1891 the city was officially incorporated. The name…. Anacortes (after Annie-Curtis!)

Amos must have really loved Annie to name a whole town after her. And what better way to celebrate their love and the special town they founded than to join us on a free community 5K route highlighting and touring beautiful downtown Anacortes!?

We will begin at the Depot Arts and Community Center which is a Historic Train Depot - locally known simply as “The Depot." We will then head out along the marina waterfront to the foot of Cap Sante, circle back through scenic downtown neighborhoods past historic homes, through the intricate stone-work of Causland Park, under the Anacortes welcome arch, along a short section of local favorite Tommy Thompson Trail (watch for otters), around the Seafarers Memorial, back along the marina waterfront, past the Annie Curtis sculpture, alongside the WT Preston snag boat and Maritime Heritage Museum and end up back at the The Depot.

Post run, we will celebrate our accomplishment with community, refreshments, and giveaways at the locally famous Rockfish Grill. Rockfish Grill will be providing 10% off food and beverages for this event (thank you Rockfish)!

Anacortes is such a magical place. We hope to make this a fun community event enjoyed by all. All paces and friendly furry friend's welcome. We can’t wait to run with you!
