Pawpaw 10 Mile and 5 Mile Return for Year 4
Come celebrate this Virginia's native fruit with a run along the James River, through open fields, along glorious singletrack and past a historic cabin! You may even have a chance to see Pawpaws along the trail! The festival will also feature live music, a beer truck and tons of other events.Powhatan State Park opened up in 2013. With miles of James River frontage plus almost 20 miles of trails the park has become a huge hit. The park features a mix of reclaimed farm fields (great for bird watching), mixed with shady forests right on the historic James River. Come help celebrate the Park’s 10th birthday by running a 10 miler on September 23rd, 2023. Participants will run the exterior trails of the park. The trails feature a great mix of terrain. The trail along the river is flat, fast and scenic. When you veer away from the river there are some gnarly climbs up into open fields. The views stretch for miles until you enter the forest. Run through some shaded singletrack until you reach the historic cabin ruins. After a steep climb you eventually exit the forest and come back out into the open fields. As you run through the fields take a moment to appreciate the diversity of wildlife and birds that call the area home. Eventually you finish your 10 miles back at the Equestrian Trailhead Parking Lot.There will be a water station near mile 5. All participants registered by 9/1 will receive a gender specific short sleeve shirt. Food will be available for purchase after the event from the Cafe at Maidens. Featuring fantastic boxed lunches this food can be added on to your order at check out. At $50, this is a benefit race for the Friends of Powhatan State Park, a local volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the mission of Powhatan State Park. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Friends Group. As such, we do not offer discounts. The Pawpaw 10 Miler is a participant in the Virginia State Parks Adventure Series and is sponsored by Dominion Energy

Make a team or go solo as the temperatures start cooling off and the leaves start falling and changing color during our Fall Foliage Adventure Race in and around the stunningly beautiful and historic Jamestown Virginia where the site of the first permanent English settlement in North America. If you love being outdoors, then this is the event for you.
5-hour Race: Our 5-hour fall race is perfect for new/beginner racers or those who just don't want to go all day. We will have biking, canoe/kayak paddling and trekking with plenty of route options taking you through amazing areas of history and scenery. As usual this race will start alongside our bigger race and and consist of some smaller parts from that course. The biking in this course will be very beginner friendly, a mix of gravel and paved surfaces.
24-hour Race: This year we're taking our more seasoned racers for a full 24-hours of adventure! It will consist of multiple parks, going into the night and through to the morning again as you make your way through several conservancies and historical sites with plenty paddling, trekking and biking. If you are new to 24-hour racing, this is going to be a great course to give your first try at 24-hours due to the region not having any crazy elevation/climbs in it, and for our veterans who want to clear it all, don't worry there will be a whole lot of amazing outdoors to explore.
New to adventure racing? What is an adventure race? Simply put, Adventure Racing (AR) is orienteering (navigating with a map and compass) but via multiple modes of travel. Unlike your average 10K/5K, marathon or obstacle course race where there is a strict roped off race course to follow; with orienteering/AR you are given a map with marked checkpoints (CPs), and its up to you/your team to decide & navigate which route you think is most optimal and find as many checkpoints as you can within a time limit. The best teams will work together and help each other to not only go fast, but also efficiently, acquiring the most checkpoints wins (fastest time as tie-breaker).
Spectators are welcome to watch, hang out, take pictures, fish or just picnic in the park during this event but are NOT allowed to assist participants. This is a USARA-sanctioned race.

US Road Running
Description
If you have ever wondered what running trails is like, this is the race for you! The Piedmont 8 Hour returns for year 12! The 2.7 mile loop features approximately 60 feet of elevation change each loop. The trail meanders through open meadows and forest, presenting an ever changing view. Running the second to last weekend of October also means that you will see spectacular fall foliage. Runners will have access to food and aid every time they pass the start line. Awards will be given to the top three finishers for males and females. All runners will receive finisher awards unique for year 10! Come out and hit the trails with us! The aid station will offer typical Ultra foods, like gummy candies and chips. We will have Water, Tailwind and some pop (that's right, I'm from the midwest). It is a cupless event so bring your own cup. This year, we are again proud to partner with the Cafe at Maidens. They will be providing boxed lunches to interested runners after 11:30pm. Boxed lunches will include a scrumptious sandwich, chips, cookie and can of Pop. Because the cost of the race is low these will be provided as an add on feature. Meaning if you want it you pay for it at registration. You may also order food for family/friends. This may be a good option because there is no real food for around a 20 minute drive. Order at checkout. Take a look at the menu here (https://www.thecafeatmaidens.com/menu)Last day to register and be guaranteed a hat is September 19th.Because we want you on the trails we keep the cost of this race low. $65 for an 8 hour race with a shirt is a steal. We do not offer refunds. We do offer a discount for Law enforcement, fire, medical, education, military and veterans. Enter code "Thanks" for a discount
Course
The course features a mix of open field running with some pine forests. The open field running features spectacular leaf views. There are typically also a lot of birds in the fields. There are 1 or 2 short hills but the terrain is very runnable. Most of the trails are double track and there aren't many roots or rocks.
Got Friends?
We offer two options for those running in a group.Refer 3 Run Free- Get 3 friends to sign up and we will give you a free entryGroups of 5 or more runners should contact me for a 20% off discount
The Parent Loop
We love seeing parent run loops with their children. Or vice versa. We want to reward families that do this. "Pacers" may sign up for the Parent Loop. They will complete one lap (at least) with their runner. It can be at anytime during the event. They will be timed for that loop only with their pacer. They will then receive an official loop time, finishers award and shirt. The idea is simply to get families out on the trail together.
Event's current local time: 4:48 AM ET

Bring the kids, the stroller, the whole family, and get your holiday off to a great start – you can burn off some of those calories before Thanksgiving Dinner even happens! The race starts at 8:45 and a Kid's One Mile Fun Run precedes the 5K, starting at 8:00.
Weighted Angels is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization operating out of the Virginia Peninsula. We provide weighted stuffed animals to grieving families who have experienced stillbirth and infant loss before they leave the hospital. Our mission is to make sure no family leaves the hospital with empty arms.
Did you know the fastest 5k ever run was completed by Joshua Cheptegei in 12 minutes and 35 seconds? With the current rate of stillbirth being 1 every 16 seconds, that means in just that short time, an average of 47 babies were born silently into this world. The current statistics are alarming and heart breaking. These families need our support now more than ever.
Join us for the Weighted Angels 5K to raise awareness, walk/run in remembrance and honor of our loved ones, and raise funds to help us better serve the pregnancy, stillbirth, and infant loss families of Virginia. Your support and participation will help bring awareness during October Infant & Pregnancy Loss Awareness Month. Participants can run/walk in person or virtually this year. We would love to have you join us!

I would prefer to run.NO! You are competing as much or as little as you want. You are also competing with yourself! It is a tough race and just finishing is a victory. If you are speedy and you want to challenge yourself- go for it!Why are you doing this race as "no frills"?Costs continue to rise. I want to keep events affordable. Not everyone wants a T-shirt/hat- it is a personal choice. Will everyone get a finisher medal?I will have finisher medals
available. If you prefer not to grab one, you can skip it!Can I buy a T-shirt or a hat on race day?Not necessarily. These will be limited, but I will have some previous year's T-shirts/hats for sale. The T-shirt deadline is December 14th and after this date I will put inventory on the registration page and when they are gone they are gone! T-shirts will be unisex sizes only/long sleeved. Hats will be while supplies last. I will have 150 and after that I will dip into previous year’s hats. Weather plan! Please read before registering Weather plan! Please read before registeringWhen registering please note, if there is dangerous weather forecasted for the event, the race will be moved to Sunday, Jan. 10th. There are no refunds or deferrals to the following year if the date is moved. I will give as much notice as possible. Please take this into consideration when registering. I consider "dangerous weather" to be weather that makes it dangerous for participants to get to the race from out of
town. Over 50% of racers typically travel one hour +. Although it would be fun to actually run/hike in the snow, it would likely cause the race to be moved due to the road conditions for participants. Again- please understand this policy before registering! The Newest 72 Hour on the East Coast!
For year 12 of Dogwood, we have added a new option. We are now offering a 72 Hour option at the event. This gives participants plenty of time to shoot for their PR's over the course of the weekend. We will offer a runner and hiker option for this.
Course
The Dogwood Ultra Marathons returns for its 11th year! The 48 Hour event returns, and now starts on Friday morning. Once again we will offer 10 mile, 12 Hour Solo, 12 Hour Relay, 24 Hour Solo and 24 Hour Relay options. Each relay option can have anywhere from 3-6 participants although the ideal size for the 48 hour relay is 6 people. The ideal size for the 12 and 24 is 4 runners. For the 8th consecutive year the race takes place at Twin Lakes State Park at Shelter 1. All events run the same 3.42 mile loop course. Each loop features approximately 400 feet of elevation change and a couple of stream crossings. This is a rolling course! It will challenge each runner. Sometimes you get your feet wet, sometimes you don't. Awards will be given to all runners finishing 50k, 50 mile, 100k and 100 mile distances. 100 mile finishers will receive a belt buckle. Participants have the option of running their 10 mile or 12 hour race during the day or night. Night races begin at 7:30pm on Saturday. Simply select the day or night choice at registration.. As a veteran owned business, we love giving back to those who help all of us. Teachers, Law Enforcement, Nurses, First Responders and Military should use the code THANKS at checkout for a discount. I do not offer refunds. Runners who contact me ahead of time may be able to roll over to another race or be deferred to next yearPrizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place male and female in each distance. Only the 1st place relay team will receive an award. Finisher's awards will be given to all runners completing a 50k, 50 mile, 100k or 100 mile distance. Runner's finishing 100 miles will receive a belt buckle. Only complete laps will count. Runners must finish their current lap by the time cap in order for it to count. Runners must be present in order to qualify for a prize. The one exception to this is the 12 hour distance. Top 3 male and female will awarded combing both the 12 hour day and night runners. I will make arrangements to get you those prizes. The following laps must be completed to achieve noteworthy distances:50k- 9 laps (30.6miles)50 miles- 15 (51.05 miles)100k- 19 laps (64.6 miles)100 miles- 29 laps + one partial lap (100 miles)Beginning in 2020 all of our races will be cupless! the nice thing about the loop course though is that you can leave your cup at the start/finish line.We cannot offer refunds or bib transfers. Hiker Category Added
Want to come out and get miles but aren't a runner? Sign up for the hiker category. Hiker participants still get credit (and finisher awards) for hitting mileage (like a 50k or 50 miler). They just don't have to run. At all. While individual distances (i.e. 100 miles) are recognized, hiker participants are not eligible for the podium.
Gluten Free Options
We will now be stocking gluten free options at all our races. Note it on your registration and then ask for our gluten free selections when you encounter an aid station.
Primitive Camping
We will offer primitive camping at the start line on Canopy Row this year. Camping will begin Thursday at 6pm and end Sunday morning. This allows runners to come in and camp prior to their race start. Campers will pay a one time flat fee. They may select this option in the add ons section.
The Parent Loop
New this year is a short (essentially 5k race) within your race. We love seeing parents and children run a loop together. The concept is simple. The parent (or child) signs up to run one loop with their runner. They will receive a 5k finish time. They will also receive a shirt a finisher's award. Interested participants should register for the Parent Loop 5k

About the Get Outside 8-Hour The Get Outside races are located at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield, VA. In addition to our feature 8-hour event, we also offer a 4-hour event and a fast, autumn 10K option. These events are companion races to the Windsor Castle 10-Hour hosted in July and designed as a chance for you to "Get Outside" rather than stay indoors and cyber shop or continually nibble on leftover Thanksgiving dinner items :-). This course is run in the opposite direction from our July companion race. The days after Thanksgiving are a time where those in the sports and outdoor groups are encouraging people to get outside, stretch your legs, and enjoy nature. This is your chance to get in a nice long run or walk on a 5-km trail (estimated at 150 feet each loop).Come out and race the course to see how many miles you can get or just enjoy time on your feet and getting some nice miles walking and running along with other super cool endurance runners and walkers. This is a low-key event,
however laps will be counted and we'll be keeping track of your miles, so go for it! We'll have awards for the top finishers, along with a homemade finisher medals for all runners. We will have a fully stocked “ultra-type” aid station for runners, including hot soup and other hot items. We will not have an aid station on the course mid-lap (but you don't need it - it's a 5-km loop).Runners are able to set up chairs or tents (no larger than 10x10) near the trail. We are also offering a Rucking option for each event. Ruckers are asked to have a minimum of 10 pounds in their backpack/rucksack. Cost & Refunds There are no refunds if you cancel your registration. Generally most race costs are incurred in the weeks and months leading up to an event and therefore it is difficult to offer refunds. However, if you know you need to cancel, please do so as soon as possible to allow people on the waitlist an opportunity to run. If it is possible to defer your registration to another event we will do so,
however it will be dependent on the timing of the cancellation and deferral request. About the run itself All races begin at 8 am. The time may be modified by 15 minutes to accommodate 10K runners to start first, pending registrations. Fall temps in Hampton Roads late November tend to be in the 50s, but it could vary so be sure to check the temp forecast leading up to the run. We will run rain or shine. The run is on a 5-km loop and runs in the opposite direction of the Windsor Castle 10-Hour. There are two street crossings, however there is very minimal traffic in this area. The course will be marked. (The park is open from dawn to dusk, so your call if you want to max out the time it's open).Aid station: We will have a fully stocked and pretty awesome aid station for all runners. Awards All finishers receive a homemade medal. Plus, each runner gets an additional cool finisher’s item.Awards for top miles for the first three women and first three men for all events. The lap counters will be stationed under a canopy just beyond the Start/Finish line. After each lap, please call out your bib number and confirm your event and lap total with the lap counters, e.g., “Bib 2112, 10-Hour, Finishing Lap 3”. The first three or so laps will be crowded until participants spread out over the loop, so please take an extra moment to ensure that your lap is counted early on.You must run a full loop in order for your loop to count. Partial loops will not count toward your total mileage for scoring. As we near the end of the 2-, 5-, and 10-hour events, we will help you with your runner math and that you could/should try to squeeze another lap in.For 5-km participants, we will be manually recording your finish time. A race chute will be set-up on the in-field of the course adjacent to the start/finish line for 5-km runners to come through as they finish.Set Up (Tents, Chairs, etc.): You are strongly encouraged to bring some sort of shade – umbrella, tent (regular tent or canopy style), chair with a shade, etc. We are setting up in a location with direct sun for the entire day. However, there are some trees lining the set-up area where you could put a single chair. The tent set-up approach is super fun and there is PLENTY of space. You can set-up your own tent city with friends for the day! You are asked to not be inordinately far away from the aid station and timing areas. The race staff cannot monitor your tent area, but we would like to at least have eyes on it for safety purposes.
