First-time or out-of-shape folks are especially encouraged to join us for the 38th edition of this popular training program (over 9,000 have participated in this program over the years).

PROGRAM MISSION: The overall goal of the program is to guide each individual to a safe and successful race and to make exercise a permanent part of each participant's lifestyle!

COACH and SUPPORT TEAM: Mark Lorenzoni has served as the Coach since the program started in 1987 and Cathie B. has volunteered as the program assistant for 14 years. Virginia K. and Molly W. will continue to serve as our volunteer administrators. They will be assisted by a team of experienced “Captains”, who will help guide the participant athletes through the winter months.

    START DATE:

    Saturday, October 18th

    8:00am

COST: The total cost of the five-month program is a $10 donation to the Charlottesville Track Club

The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center and Prolyfyck Run Crew are partnering to present the annual Liberation + Freedom Day Run/Walk. We are raising funds to support organizations with Black leadership that support the community directly. The near 8 mile run and 4 mile walk allows you to engage with some of the City’s important sites of African American history, while passing some of the African American businesses along the way.

    About Liberation and Freedom Day:

Liberation and Freedom Day is a municipal holiday in Charlottesville celebrated on March 3, to commemorate the day in 1865 when Union Major General Phillip Sheridan and his troops arrived in Charlottesville - liberating over 14,000 enslaved people.

About Jefferson School African American Heritage Center:

Located in the Jefferson School City Center, The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center’s mission is to honor and preserve the rich heritage and legacy of the African-American community of Charlottesville-Albemarle, Virginia and to promote a greater appreciation for, and understanding of, the contributions of African Americans and peoples of the Diaspora locally, nationally and globally. The Center features a permanent historical exhibit, a rotating contemporary art gallery, and a robust calendar of events, all of which combine to highlight Charlottesville’s African American history and culture of the African diaspora.

    About Prolyfyck:

Prolyfyck is more than a running community. To be Prolyfyck is a way of life, it's a culture. Prolyfyck’s main purpose is to work for the empowerment of those who support it, especially the historically marginalized Black and Brown communities. Our goal is to continue shedding light on the impact of racism, both past and present, rejecting those who would suppress or co-opt the talent of Black and Brown people, claiming ownership over their creativity. Instead, we encourage all to look deep within themselves to find their gifts and tap into their passions, working together with a spirit of unity and love to create a world where everyone can be Prolyfyck!

    Packet Pickup:

Pick up your bib and swag bag on Friday, February 27th at The Jefferson School Heritage Center from 4-6 pm. Bibs will also be available Sat, February 28th before the start of the run/walk. We will be located outside of the JSAAHC Museum shop and Cafe.

Join Partners in Health Engage at UVA to raise money for Tuberculosis in Sierra Leone! Tuberculosis is a curable disease, yet every year millions of people die worldwide because they do not have access to treatment. In particular, Sierra Leone has been subject to a history of exploitation, leading to poor health outcomes to this day. Our club has pledged to raise $4500 this year to support PIH's tuberculosis programs in Sierra Leone. This will assist Partners in Health in supplying treatment courses for TB, chest x-rays for diagnosis, nutritional support for patients, among other things. If you are on board, come run (or jog, wog, or walk!) with us on 4/4 at 9 AM. We have tons of prizes for top finishers and raffle winners from local businesses, so we hope you will join us for a morning of fun fighting TB!

ALL proceeds from this race will go to Partners in Health.

    Race info:

Race is starting at Newcomb Hall. Please arrive by 8:30 to ensure adequate time for check-in of all runners. Prizes from local Charlottesville business sponsors will be available for age groups: 18-25, 26-40, >40, and include gift cards to breweries, yoga, shopping, food and more!

Remote Area Medical (RAM) at UVA is excited to announce the fourth annual RAM @ UVA 5K on Sunday, March 30, 2025!

RAM is a nonprofit organization that provides free healthcare to those in need through mobile clinics offering medical, dental, and vision services to underserved and uninsured individuals. Since it was founded in 1985, RAM’s Corps consists of more than 212,000 volunteers. Licensed dental, vision, and medical professionals at these clinics have treated more than 940,000 individuals, delivering more than $200 million worth of free care. More information about the organization can be found on their website, at https://www.ramusa.org/.

As a chapter of the organization, our goal is to promote that mission and host a biennial free clinic in Fishersville, VA. This is a big dream, and we will need your help! We successfully hosted our inaugural clinic in November 2022, the first to be organized entirely by a collegiate chapter, where we provided over 500 patients with $250,000 in medical care. Our second clinic in April 2024 achieved similar success, serving over 400 patients over one weekend and providing the equivalent of $225,000 in free healthcare. The cost of hosting our own clinic is approximately $25,000, and we continue to work actively in our community to raise these funds. Whether you decide to participate in person or virtually, all proceeds from the race will go towards funding for our next clinic to help bring the mission of RAM closer to the Charlottesville community!

All in-person participants will have their timing results available online after the race and will receive refreshments and a T-shirt (first 60 sign-ups) on race day while supplies last. The top three finishers will also receive a prize donated by local Charlottesville businesses. Bib and T-shirt pickup will begin at 12:30 pm on race day. Participants must start the 5K by 1:15 PM and finish no later than 2:30 PM.

Price to register will increase after March 2, 2025 so make sure to sign up as soon as you can!

    See you on race day!
