The East Canyon Marathon has four distances. Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K.
The Full Marathon starts overlooking Salt Lake City at the Big Mountain Pass at the top of Emigration Canyon and heads East. This course follows along pine trees, aspens and follows several miles along the East Canyon Reservoir. The Full joins Half Marathon about 3/4 around East Canyon Reservoir where the Half Marathons starts and then heads down Red Rock Canyon which has great views and landscapes and unique rock formations. Around Mile 20 of the race the course turns into farmland with beautiful fields of grain and cool barns. The 10K and 5K are out and back courses that start where all distances finish at the Morgan County Fairgrounds.
The remembrance run and market honoring babies gone too soon — because love doesn’t end.

The 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon are chip-timed and award the top 3 men and top 3 women in each of three categories per distance:
Overall — fastest 3 men and 3 women
Under 18 — fastest 3 boys and 3 girls under 18
40 & Over — fastest 3 men and 3 women aged 40 and up
Win more than one and you keep more than one — an Under-18 runner who also places in the Overall keeps both medals. Up to 18 award medals per distance, all hand-finished with the Malad Valley Marathon mark.
The 1 Mile Fun Run is an untimed community lap. Run with the kids, run with your dog, run in a costume — no chip, no bib, no clock. Show up and run.
Travel & lodging
Malad City sits 9 miles north of the Idaho/Utah border on I-15, 90 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) and 75 minutes from Pocatello. The Malad Motel and Village Inn Motel offer rooms in town; nearby Tremonton, UT has additional chain hotels 30 minutes south.
Weather
Race morning in the Malad Valley typically sees lows in the low-40s°F at sunrise (~7:00 AM), still in the mid-40s°F at the 8:00 AM gun, climbing into the 60s°F through mid-morning and afternoon highs in the low-70s°F. Bring a throwaway layer for the start; the shorter distances finish before the day really warms up, the longer distances will want a hat and sunscreen by the back half.

The Bear Lake Brawl Triathlon is held at Bear Lake State Park (Idaho) on the Idaho side and East side of Bear Lake. Bear Lake is often called the Caribbean of the Rockies due to its incredibly blue water set in high in the mountains. This race has four distances.
Half 70 1/3 Distance Long - Swim 1.2 Miles, Bike 56 Miles, Run 13.1 Miles
Olympic Distance Intermediate - Swim 1500 Meters, Bike 24.8 Miles, Run 6.2 Miles
Sprint Distance Short - Swim 750 Meters, Bike 12.4 Miles, Run 3.1 Miles
(Full 140 2/3 Distance is not renewed for 2026. This distance causes us to have an extremely long day finishing the last racer around Midnight. We have to start as early as 7AM and this causes issues with set up and the sun only rises around 6:45AM. After 8 years of trying to grow this distance we have decided to not renew it for all the stress and lack of participation with around 30 to 40 racers. We are sorry it is not back)
Rising from the shimmering waters of the Great Salt Lake, under the gaze of the Wasatch Mountains, lies Antelope Island. This mountainous isle, forged by the receding waters of a prehistoric lake, boasts a network of unforgettable mountain bike trails. It is on this rugged terrain that Valhalla has created the next legendary endurance mountain bike race.

Packet Pickup
With the Center Street Giant Pumpkin Festival load in happening at the same time as the race we have moved the Start/Finish Line to the parking lot behind Sol Speak Yoga. We think this is the best way to create a safer environment for all participants. The course is basically the same, just starting a couple hundred yards north.
Please do NOT park in the lot behind Sol Speak Yoga. The lot is closed to anyone but festival vendors. And there will be quite a bit of traffic with the vendors setting up for the festival. Please be aware of vehicles unloading around you. There is plenty of parking on 100 North and in the parking lot across the street from Sol Speak Yoga.
