This isn't your average race! Prepare to conquer our signature challenge – a steep climb that might just make you "whine" a little! But trust us, the view (and the vino) from the top is worth it. Sip-n-Stroll: (Non-Timed Walking Event) Would you rather enjoy the scenery with a little less "whine" and head straight for the wine? This leisurely walking option is on the same course as the competitive event but lets you enjoy the beautiful vineyard scenery and tasting stations at a relaxed pace. Participants will receive a long-sleeve shirt, while those age 21+ will also receive a commemorative wine glass. Photo ID will be required at packet pickup
Grape Gallop Kid's Run: A fun dash for younger runners! Let them burn off some energy in a safe, shorter course that runs in a looping course around the hilltop. This event is open to participants aged 6-12 years old. participants will receive a shirt and finishers medal.

On the Thursday before Labor Day Weekend of 2026, ultramarathoners will once again descend on Fred Deadman Park in Manchester, Tennessee. Led by a contingent of wheezing geezers, over a hundred of America’s finest foot warriors will circle the famed Deadman Mile for days on end in September of 2026.
All runners 41 and over will be allotted a number of hours equal to those hard-earned years of age in which to accumulate as many miles as possible. All the kids, 40 years, and below, will compete over the final 40 hours of the race. The winner will be the runner with the most miles accumulated by the finish. In contrast to most ultras, where the old guys must settle for a place at the rear, if they can make the time limit at all, the ARFTA is dominated by the super veterans of the sport. In 2025, 1 participant 90 +, 12 participants 80+, and 35 participants 70 years old and over competed in this event. Randy Ellis 73, and Steve Troxel 66, completed more than 200 miles! We had 63 participants completing over 100 miles were 70 and older! This is one race where the older guys are right in the running up until the very end. The footspeed may have diminished with the passing of the years, but the fires of competition still burn bright.
Of course it is not the competition which has made this event an instant classic. It is the stories. In the perfect setting of a one mile loop through the park, today’s ultrarunners have the opportunity to spend time with the legends and heroes of the long ago past of the sport. And the old guys and gals have the opportunity to rekindle old friendships (and rivalries) and to rehash the old days. The stories they have to tell are not tales immortalized on the internet, instead they exist only in the memories of those who were there. For all the hundreds of miles that are logged, and the fierce battles sometimes waged for position, it is the celebration of life atmosphere that has made the ARFTA a must-do event. Fathers and mothers sharing miles with daughters and sons as well as grandparents sharing miles with grandsons and granddaughters; these are moments too special to miss.
We rent most of the park for the duration of the event, and among the features of the race are: Ice is provided for purchase at the ICE HOUSE on the premises for $3.00 per bag. Usually set up next to the building not far from the start/finish area. Hot meals served every 6 hours (this is not aid station food, but fine southern cuisine catered by the local Cracker Barrel.) Additional meal plans may be purchased for crew members. The meals come prepackaged for each individual with whatever is on the menu that day. A mealtime rush is not necessary as you may take it with you to your tent or eat at the pavilions. A friendly reminder to allow the aid station volunteers time to set it up before you stop by to grab and go. We do not have the facility to set up multiple options or dietary needs.
There are real indoor bathrooms located on the course (the value of which cannot be overstated in a multiday run!) There will also be portapotties next to the building after you pass the start/finish line and two on the backside of the loop.
Accommodations are available at a full range of motels within 1 mile of the park, for crews, or runners wishing to sleep in a “real bed.” Ample TENT camping is available on site, with prime camping spots situated around the Deadman Mile.
This is a small park with limited parking. The course is in the parking lot as well as through the park. We have the pavilions reserved but not the whole park itself. Locals come enjoy the park throughout the event. Baseball and tennis is also going on at the same time. They have been very graciuos each year and share with us!
With that being said. RV Campers! We are asked every year about campers. A camper is allowed in the back parking area near the back ball field. See the map attached to this site. IF YOUR CAMPER FITS IN ONE PARKING SPOT THEN IT IS ALLOWED. The standard parking space is 8.5 feet wide by 18 feet long to give you an idea of the size.
There is plenty of camping space to set up a tent and all of your supplies. Not on the course itself but close to it!
There is a facebook group for the ARFTA: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1443235495936999/
Or you can send your questions below.
Any runners over 70 years of age with financial limitations precluding their entry should e-mail me, so that we can work something out. This is your day(s) in the sun, and we want to see you here! Last year we had 38 starters the age of 70 and older. I think that may be a record! 53 Runners logged in excess of 100 miles, 5 of which were 80 and older!! Last year 2 participants went 200 plus. Last year Doyle Carpenter, Harry Strohm, John Price, and Keith Dunn completed their 11th ARFTA! However, you do not need to aim for such a lofty goal, if you do not wish. It is perfectly all right to just come to share the weekend with your peers. What we most want is to see you here.

The Run The Ridge 5K, 10K, and 25K Trail Run is a culturally and historically significant event as runners will be traveling some of the same dirt roads and beautiful overlooks that Father of Bluegrass Music, Bill Monroe, and his beloved Uncle Pen did. DESCRIPTION Course Overview – A Deep Run Through Tennessee’s Wildest BackcountryThis year’s event takes runners deep into one of the most striking and geologically unique landscapes in Middle Tennessee. The 50 Miler and 25K both traverse the rugged Caney Fork and Scotts Gulf region — an area shaped over millions of years by water, limestone, and time, and still largely untouched by development. This land is defined by towering sandstone and limestone bluffs, massive overlooks, sinkholes, caves, and waterfalls that appear directly out of the rock, disappear underground, and re-emerge downstream. Much of the water you’ll encounter on this course doesn’t simply flow downhill — it vanishes into cave systems, travels unseen beneath your feet, and bursts back out through springs and cliff faces, creating waterfalls and streams that feel almost unreal.Runners will move along high overlooks with sweeping views into deep river gorges, descend into shaded hollows carved by centuries of flowing water,
and travel through terrain that feels ancient and wild. This region served as a natural corridor for Indigenous peoples and early settlers, and even today it remains one of the most remote and dramatic landscapes in Tennessee. The 50 MilerThe 50 Miler is the featured distance this year, replacing the former 50K. It is a demanding, full-day effort designed for experienced trail and ultra runners. Expect long stretches of technical trail, sustained climbs and descents, remote sections where you feel far from everything, and constant visual reward. This course does not give away miles easily — every mile must be earned. The 50 Miler will start at 6:00 AM, sending runners into the gorge as first light breaks over the cliffs and rivers below. It’s a true ultra experience built around patience, endurance, and respect for the terrain. The 25KThe 25K offers a shorter but still challenging introduction to this landscape and shares the same rugged character and scenery as the longer course. It is not an
“easy” option — runners should expect real trail, meaningful elevation change, and a true backcountry feel packed into a more approachable distance. The 25K will start at 8:00 AM, allowing runners to head out as the forest fully wakes up and the gorge fills with light.Start / Finish ExperienceBoth distances start and finish at Camp Latimer, creating a central hub for the entire race day. Runners, crews, and spectators will be able to experience the energy of the early-morning start, the quiet tension of the middle miles, and the celebration as finishers return from deep within the gorge. This is more than a race through the woods. It’s a run through ancient rock, hidden water, and wild Tennessee backcountry — big views, deep forest, and miles that will stay with you long after the finish line. Latimer Reservation We’re excited to partner with Latimer Reservation as this year’s official start and finish location. Nestled on the Cumberland Plateau in Spencer, Tennessee, Camp Latimer offers a
perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort for runners, crew, family, and friends.Participants are welcome to stay Friday night before the race, the night of the race, or make a full weekend out of it. Camp Latimer offers both tent and cabin lodging, along with full facilities including showers, restrooms, shared gathering spaces, and plenty of room to relax. Tent camping is available on raised platforms with cots for those who want the outdoor experience, while climate-controlled cabins provide comfortable bunk rooms and private leader rooms for a more restful stay.Set on 1,550 acres of scenic forest and open space, Camp Latimer provides a peaceful and social environment where runners can gather, unwind, and connect before and after the event. Staying on site allows us to create a true race-weekend experience, with opportunities to spend time together, share stories, and celebrate the effort that goes into race day.If you are interested in reserving a camping or cabin spot, lodging
options will be available as add-ons during race registration. We encourage participants to arrive early or stay late, as we’ll be hosting informal get-togethers before and after the race and are working on a very cool guest speaker to make the weekend even more memorable. RACE DAY Race Weekend Layout – Camp LatimerThe Caney Fork race weekend is designed to be more than just a start line and finish chute. We’re building a full weekend experience at Camp Latimer Scout Reservation, centered around community, preparation, and time together in one of Tennessee’s most scenic backcountry settings.Friday – Arrival & Pre-Race GatheringThe race area opens at 2:00 PM on Friday. Runners, crew, and family are welcome to arrive early, get settled, and enjoy the camp facilities.Packet pickup will be available Friday evening from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM near the main camp building. This is the recommended option for runners to make race morning as smooth as possible. At 7:00 PM, we’ll gather for a pre-race
dinner at camp. Following dinner, we’ll host a course overview and race briefing beginning around 7:30 PM, with time for questions and final notes. This will cover key course features, aid stations, safety considerations, and race-day logistics. We’re also planning an evening activity or guest presentation during the weekend. Final details will be announced closer to race day once confirmed.Saturday – Race DayRace-day packet pickup begins at 5:00 AM near the main camp building for those unable to pick up on Friday.50 Miler Start: 6:00 AM CDT25K Start: 8:00 AM CDTBoth races start and finish near the main camp building at Camp Latimer, creating a central hub for runners, crews, volunteers, and spectators throughout the day.The 50 Miler will have a hard cutoff of 8:00 PM, marking the official end of the race.Saturday Evening – Finish Line & DinnerAs runners continue to finish throughout the afternoon and evening, the camp will remain active and welcoming. Dinner will begin around 7:00 PM,
allowing finishers, crews, and volunteers to gather, refuel, and celebrate the day’s efforts together as the final runners make their way in.Additional evening activities or a guest speaker may be scheduled depending on availability, and details will be shared once finalized.Course InformationA detailed race layout, including aid station locations, crew access notes, drop bag details, and final course information, will be sent out approximately one week before the event so runners can fully prepare. CUTOFFS REFUNDS/TRANSFERS Refunds before a month out are acceptable, after that we do not allow them HardRuck We’re excited to offer the Rucking Division again for each race. For those new to the concept, rucking involves walking or hiking with a weighted pack. The term comes from the military word “Rucksack,” meaning “Backpack.”Weight Requirements:Over 150lb: 20lb dry weightUnder 150lb: 10lb dry weightWeigh-ins will occur 30 minutes before the race start—no weigh-in, no patch. The weight must
be in the form of a steel ruck plate, weight vest blocks, bumper plates, or other items with clearly stamped weight. Participants may not remove or reduce the weight during the event and may face random checks at aid stations or anywhere on the course. We rely on the honor system, so please do the right thing. CASA of the Heartland will host race THREE of the Light the Night 5K: Superhero Walk/Run Series on Friday, August 21, 2026, at James D. Beville City Park in Leitchfield. Our goal is to raise awareness for the most vulnerable children in our community—and use this night to pay tribute to our local heroes who protect and serve. This event is a celebration of those hometown heroes, and a chance for all of us to show up for kids who need someone in their corner.
Working together across all three events, we’re aiming to provide every child victim in Hardin, Breckinridge, Grayson, LaRue, Hart and Meade counties with a CASA volunteer advocate—and hope for a better future.

[BRAT 2026 Headers.png]
Each day, riders will have multiple routes to choose from depending on their goals for the day. You can expect to see routes ranging from 25 to 100 miles throughout the week. All routes will be supported by our Tennessee Park Rangers and volunteers. Being supported by us means you can expect fully stocked SAG stops every 15-20 miles which include water, Gatorade, fresh fruit, nutritious snacks, bathrooms, and friendly faces along the way. Rangers will be running the routes with their blue lights on to alert motorists of your presence, and our awesome mechanic is never too far away in case you have a bike mishap.
Once you return to Basecamp each day, you will have a variety of activities to participate in, including Ranger-led programs, yoga, evening music, and tastings. Both breakfast and dinner will be provided from Saturday to Wednesday, and breakfast on the final day, Thursday.
Choose to join us for the full 6-day ride, the first 3 days, the last 3 days, the weekend, or a single day! Explore our various registration options to find the one that best suits your schedule and riding style.
Do you have a “non-rider” you would like to bring to the BRAT? No worries, we have a non-rider registration option that allows them to enjoy the afternoon and evening activities, meals, and daily excursions. Excursions will take place during the day while riders are out on the route.
All the proceeds from the ride will support the Cumberland Trail State Scenic Trail, the Tennessee Park Rangers Association, David Crockett State Park, Cedars of Lebanon State Park, and The Friends of the Cumberland Trail.
