    2026 Allegheny Gnar Downhill Weekend in Oil City - USAC PA State Downhill Championship Race presented by Warren Industrial Solutions

    July 3-5 @ Oil City, PA (Clark's Summit Trails, 582 Evans St, Oil City, PA 16301, MAP)

    • July 3 - Extra Shuttled Ride Day, Fireworks viewing from lookout and Jolly July 3rd Festival Downtown

    Spectator Info: Be there about 10am on Sunday to hike down the trail and get a good spectator spot for a busy morning practice and race runs start at Noon. Saturday afternoon is also a great time to watch practice ending and the 4x Fun Race that kicks off at 4pm. Walk down the trail and catch a free shuttle up at the bottom when the riding stops.

    For GPS use 582 Evans St, Oil City, PA 16301

    Follow signs from Route 8/ Halyday to Dwyer St then top of Evans St.

    The event entrance is accessed through private property and is closed to the public before the event. To access the trails outside of events check out the Trails page on AlleghenyGnar.com to access from bottom of the property that is open to public use.

    • 5pm-10pm, Downtown Oil City Jolly July 3rd Festival (Food Trucks, Live Music, Fireworks)

    • Overnight parking permitted for registered riders only

    • 10am-4pm Racer Check-in

    • 10am-4pm Race Practice/ Open Riding

    • 10am-12:30pm XC Clinic

    • 2pm-4pm DH Clinic

    IMPORTANT DETAILS

    • The results from this race will determine 2026 USA Cycling PA State Champions for Downhill.

    • This race will feature 2 courses. Cat 3 & Beginners will be combined and race on their own course. This is a great first time race for Beginners with the easiest Cat 3 course we offer. Pro & Cat 1/2 Categories will race on their own course that is challenging for the most advanced riders.

    • Free to spectators, fun event for all ages!

    • Event will be run rain or shine.

    • Plan to pack out your own garbage and leave no trace on the property.

    • All riders must check-in at Event Registration before riding or racing.

    • This race is USA Cycling sanctioned. You can signup for a USAC license at the event or online. All race competitors must have valid USAC annual or 1-day USAC license. You can also apply your 1-day license fee towards an annual license within 12 months. USAC officials will be on hand to ensure a safe and fair event. Results from the race will be posted to USAC website directly after the race as well as Roots & Rain website and AlleghenyGnar.com

    • Open riders that are not racing do NOT need a USAC license.

    • Free overnight parking is permitted only for registered riders. No open fires are permitted.

    • We have race classes for all skill levels, ask us if you aren't sure what to sign up for.

    • Open riding passes are available for Friday and Saturday, Sunday is for registered racers only.

    NOTE: eBikes can race in any category except for Pro. Batteries must be turned off and left off before start of race to be timed.

    TIMING

    Timing equipment from Zone4 is included in sign-up fee. Timing chips will be mounted in staging 6-9 minutes before start time and removed at finish line.

    GNAR 4CROSS FUN RACE

    Additional $15 entry donation to sign-up, MUST be entered in another category first to register (Open Rider Day Pass works). Sign-up is open to anyone and classes will be created as needed to ensure fair, fun and safe competition.

    DIRT ROCK N ROOT MTB CLINICS

    3 Classes will be offered during the event to help riders new to mountain biking or riders who want to increase their confidence on difficult downhill trails. Space is limited and you must pre-enter. You do not need to be registered as a racer to participate in the clinic but to ride the DH courses outside of the clinic time you must also register as a racer or open rider. Meet at the start area 15 minutes before the class is scheduled to start.

    SATURDAY JULY 4

    • 2.5 Hour Saturday Morning Beginner XC Class starts at 10am

    2 Hour Saturday Afternoon Novice Downhill Class starts at 2pm

    SUNDAY JULY 5

    • 2 Hour Sunday Morning Novice Downhill Class starts at 9am

    HEAD COACH: Kathi Krause, a three-time Masters World Downhill Champion, is the founder and head coach of Dirt Rock n Root Training (DRRT), a mtb coaching company focused on building confidence and skills in riders of all levels. With over 35 years of racing and coaching experience, Kathi brings a supportive and down-to-earth approach to helping beginners get comfortable on technical terrain.

    ASSISTANT COACHES: Angelica Pietranton & Cooper Pleva

    DRRT's half-day clinics for beginners are designed to introduce new riders to the fundamentals of gravity riding in a safe, encouraging environment. With small group sizes and personalized attention, participants learn essential skills like body position, braking, line choice, and navigating obstacles—gaining the confidence to take their riding to the next level.

    Family Friendly Event: All ages all welcome with three distance options available.

    Helmets: All participants regardless of age must wear a helmet.

    Race Day Registration and Packet Pick Up: September 12, 2026, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. at the Town Square, Seneca Street, Oil City, PA. Any available shirts will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Start time: 9 a.m. at the Town Square, Seneca Street Oil City, PA. Based on the number of participants, the event director reserves the right to release participants in 5-minute waves.

    5-, 6-, or 7-Card Draw Options: All participants will receive 5 cards by stopping at dealer tables along the route. However, they can increase their chances by picking up a 6th and 7th card by cycling additional mileage. Only the best 5-card hand will be used to determine the winner. The 5-card out-and-back course is approximately 9 miles; the 6-card course is approximately 12.5 miles; and the 7-card course is approximately 16 miles.

    Course: Town Square to McClintock Well to Haggerty’s Ice Cream to Oil City Marina to Suzette Nellis Memorial (5-card turn) to picnic area (6-card turn) to River Ridge (7-card turn), back to the Town Square for the final card. The course utilizes the McClintock, Oil City, and Samuel Justus bike trails, which are part of the Erie to Pittsburgh trail system.

    Picnic/Prize Announcement: A post-event picnic will be held at the Town Square, Seneca Street, Oil City, PA. Prize announcement will take place at noon.

    Entry Fee: $25. Any proceeds benefit the downtown revitalization efforts of the Oil City Main Street Program.

    T-Shirt Guarantee Deadline: August 12. Extra shirts will be given on a first come, first served basis.

    Grand Prize: E-bike donated by Friedhaber’s. Awarded to the participant with the best 5-card poker hand. In the event of a tie, participants will split the deck. Best card will win.
