Whether your child is trying a triathlon for the very first time or already loves being active, the ALFA Kids Tri is all about building confidence, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and celebrating every young athlete as they cross the finish line.     The race will be split into two age groups (6-9 years old and 10-13 years old) with separate distances. The older group will go first. Register your child based on his/her age at the time of the race.

    Ages 6–9: 50-yard swim, 2-mile bike, ½-mile run

    Ages 10–13: 100-yard swim, 3-mile bike, 1-mile run

    Our annual race offers 2 different timed events, a community walk and fun for the whole family!

    • Cash prizes for race winners

    • Free picnic lunch for all racers and

    spectators

    • Great raffles including gift cards and tickets to theme parks and sporting events

    Our race, held in the beautiful Cook Forest State Park, will be held July 18, 2026 at Shelter 2.

    Participants are encouraged to raise donations for Western PA CARES for Kids and bring them on race day.

    The top three fundraisers will have first pick of premium fundraising prizes. All other fundraisers who raise $75 or more will be entered into an exclusive prize drawing.

    Raffle tickets will be available for purchase, and anyone may participate.

    Fundraisers must bring a list including each sponsor’s name, address, and whether they would like to receive a tax receipt.

    Regular registration will be from June 1- July 17th. The last day to pre-register is July 17th.

    Event Details

    The Duathlon consists of a 3.1 mile run then a 12 mile bike ride and ends with another 2 mile run. Many participate in this event as teams of 2 or 3, but this event can also be done solo. The 5K is a 3.1 mile race on a mix of trails and paved roads in Cook Forest. These events are timed with the exception of the community walk which is a two mile walk. All those who are pre-registered by June 20th will receive a free t-shirt. There is also a free picnic lunch provided to all racers and spectators following the event.

    Family Friendly Event: All ages all welcome with three distance options available.

    Helmets: All participants regardless of age must wear a helmet.

    Race Day Registration and Packet Pick Up: September

    12, 2026, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. at the Town Square, Seneca Street, Oil City, PA. Any available shirts will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Start time: 9 a.m. at the Town Square, Seneca Street Oil City, PA. Based on the number of participants, the event director reserves the right to release participants in 5-minute waves.

    5-, 6-, or 7-Card Draw Options: All participants will receive 5 cards by stopping at dealer tables along the route. However, they can increase their chances by picking up a 6th and 7th card by cycling additional mileage. Only the best 5-card hand will be used to determine the winner. The 5-card out-and-back course is approximately 9 miles; the 6-card course is approximately 12.5 miles; and the 7-card course is approximately 16 miles.

    Course: Town Square to McClintock Well to Haggerty’s Ice Cream to Oil City Marina to Suzette Nellis Memorial (5-card turn) to picnic area (6-card turn) to River Ridge (7-card turn), back to the Town Square for the final card. The course utilizes the McClintock, Oil City, and Samuel Justus bike trails, which are part of the Erie to Pittsburgh trail system.

    Picnic/Prize Announcement: A post-event picnic will be held at the Town Square, Seneca Street, Oil City, PA. Prize announcement will take place at noon.

    Entry Fee: $25. Any proceeds benefit the downtown revitalization efforts of the Oil City Main Street Program.

    T-Shirt Guarantee Deadline: August 12. Extra shirts will be given on a first come, first served basis.

    Grand Prize: E-bike donated by Friedhaber’s. Awarded to the participant with the best 5-card poker hand. In the event of a tie, participants will split the deck. Best card will win.
