Join us for the 9th Annual PEACEHEALTH APPLETREE Boston-Qualifying Marathon, NEW First Responder’s Relay Marathon, Half Marathon & Sunset 5K. This “Run Through History” will take you on a flat, fast and scenic course through Fort Vancouver, Officer’s Row, the Army Barracks, Pearson Airport – the oldest operating airport in the USA, the Historical Old Apple Tree, along the majestic Columbia River and many other historical vantage points. There’s so much to see that the miles will fly by!
This event will quickly be regarded as one of the prettiest and most unique courses in the Northwest and perhaps the USA! When do you get to experience a history lesson during your race?!
The quaint community of Vancouver WA will welcome you and your family with open arms and provide you with a racing experience that you just can’t get anywhere else. The volunteer support is off the charts and the energy along the course will make it an enjoyable experience that you will want to return to year after year.
NEW: We designed a flat and fast new 1 loop Boston Qualifying course that is spectator-friendly and highlights the beauty of this community. The new route offers an exciting racing experience with many energetic water stations and plenty of entertainment to keep you engaged. The Half Marathon will offer the same experience with the joy of knowing you get to start the party a little earlier than your Marathon counterparts!
This is the third year of our First Responder’s Marathon Relay created to honor all our first responders – Peace Officers, Health Care Professionals, Fire Safety and those in our military branches. We offer relays for those teams as small as two members up to nine members (with additional alternates), customized relay shirts and the opportunity to compete within their profession as well as against other divisions to obtain the coveted 202 PeaceHealth Appletree First Responder Baton inspired by the logo created by PAL’s, the beneficiary of the race.
The Sunset 5K will offer a shorter distance for our friends, family, and others in the community who would like the opportunity to enjoy the racing experience. It will also allow for a Pre-race shake-down for our Marathon and Half Marathon athletes and the opportunity for them to earn the coveted BEAST medal for an athlete who races both Saturday and Sunday.
Since Vancouver WA is right across the river from Portland OR, you are within a 20-minute drive to the PDX International Airport and minutes away from the big city.
WHY APPLETREE? Vancouver WA is known for its history including the Old Apple Tree Park, home of the Oldest Apple Tree in the Northwest and maybe even the entire Pacific West Coast. The APPLETREE Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K will celebrate all this history, capture the beauty of the Northwest and create a theme of all things ‘APPLE’.

The Long Watch
While the world sleeps, we run the watch.Long before streetlights and glowing screens, there were those who stood watch through the darkness. Through any adversity they remained at their post while others rested safely behind them. The Long Watch is a tribute to those quiet hours.Hosted at Donald Farm in Woodland, Washington, Long Watch takes place alongside the Warrior Expo—a competition of Strongman, Highland Games, and battles in medieval suits of armor. A multi-day event bringing together athletes, vendors, and spectators from across the Pacific Northwest.A manned aid station stocked with enough snacks and support to get you through the daylight, darkness, and quiet hours in between, while you cover as many miles as possible on a 1-mile loop during a 6-hour, 12-hour, or 24-hour format. The course winds throughout the Warrior Expo grounds, carrying runners past feats of strength, competitions of wood and steel, vendors of tasty treats, and the ever-changing energy of the event. As the day unfolds, you’ll share the energetic vibes with spectators, athletes, and supporters before settling into the quieter rhythm that arrives after dark. What begins as a bustling festival atmosphere gradually transforms into the solitary challenge that defines endurance running. How long will you stay on watch?Whether you’re chasing your first ultra distance or your first overnight effort, Long Watch welcomes all who are willing to stand their post.Because somewhere after midnight, when the crowds have gone home and the world has fallen quiet, the miles become honest. The Long Watch isn’t about conquering the course. It’s about refusing to abandon it.Join us at the Warrior Expo.Take your place.Stand the watch.

Volunteering
We’d love to have you help us put on a great event on Labor Day. If you’re interested in volunteering, please go to the volunteer tab on this page (click here - Volunteer Free Member Run) or email race directors Julia & Tracy Reisinger at [email protected].
Run Pacifica
We're a small, simple running group with the mission of putting on fun and free running events with routes and locations not currently offered in the Northwest by other running clubs and race organizers.
Now a 50-50!
Bonus distance for bonus fun. The first ~29 miles of the courses are shared and you can choose how to finish your day as you get to the west end of the Sellwood Bridge: keep it a nice, neat 50K, or add extra adventure with a visit to Lake Oswego and Oregon City, checking out a different batch of quiet streets, paved pedestrian paths, and great waterfront views. The "50M" is actually ~53 miles in distance, so be aware that you'll likely roll over mile 50 and still have a good chunk of ground to cover. The 50K course is slightly long, I've had it measure at 31.5 to 32 miles in the three past years.
Start Point
Brooklyn Park in SE Portland, the uphill/10th Ave side so we can take off northbound and use the pedestrian bridge over Powell. There's a convenience store, coffee shop, and bar (great whiskey menu) just across the street for your pre- and post-run needs.
The Course
50K GPX link50M GPX linkFor the ~10 people who've run this event in its first three years, it'll be a reversal of the '23/'24/'25 course. If you're new to the event... welcome! We head north from Brooklyn Park, onto the Eastbank Esplanade until it ends at the Steel Bridge. Then continue through North Portland, eventually finding Willamette Blvd over the bluffs and passing University of Portland to get to the St John's Bridge.Cross the bridge and climb into Forest Park on Ridge Trail. This ~1 mile trail stretch is the exception to the very flat and smooth course overall -- it's steep, somewhat technical, narrow, and can be slick when wet. I'd still recommend road shoes for the other 30/50 miles of your day, but be ready for this one. You'll then hit Leif Eriksen (smooth, wide dirt and gravel road) and follow it all the way to the gate at Thurman Drive. Dip through NW Portland (getting water and a bathroom stop at Wallace Park or one of many stores/markets/cafes) and work your way back to the Willamette. When you get to the Sellwood Bridge at mile ~29, it's decision time!50K: cross the Sellwood, head north back towards Brooklyn Park, and wrap up your day!50M (actually 53): climb through River View Cemetery and head towards Tryon Creek Park and the (paved) Terwilliger Trail. Continue through Lake Oswego, Mary S Young Park, then re-cross the Willamette to get into Oregon City. You'll then run the length of the Trolley Trail that starts in Gladstone, work your way back to the Sellwood Bridge that you passed 20+ miles ago, and continue back to our start/end point in Brooklyn Park.
What To Bring
This is an unsupported run with no aid stations. Bring cash/cards to grab any snacks you need from markets along the way. The Forest Park stretch (approximately mile 11 to mile 21) is the longest portion without a chance to buy/refill, so plan accordingly. There are also no course markings. If you're from out of town, feel free to load up a GPX on your watch or phone. Small variances from the "official" route are no problem at all... if you make a loop that uses the right bridges for your distance (St Johns and Sellwood for the 50K, St Johns and Oregon City for the 53M), you're probably doing fine.
