11th Annual Hot Cocoa Race sponsored by Sylvania Prevention Alliance
A great family event that will help chase away the winter blues!
Our Hot Cocoa 10K/5K/1Mile Race is being held in partnership with Olander Park. The race starts at 9am and there will be multiple corals for a safe start. In addition to the 5K and 10K, we are having a 1 mile race for our elementary age runners.
The 1 Mile Race or Walk will be the 1 mile loop around Olander Lake. We are offering a 1 mile timed race for kids and a 1 mile timed event for adults. (Whether you race or walk, you will get a time) The 1 mile course will stay in Olander park and go around the beautiful lake.
The 5K Race will start at the Nederhouser Community Building, run south on the trail, exit out of Olander Park, cross Sylvania Ave into Farmbrook neighborhood, run onto the university parks trail to McCord Rd, head north on McCord to Sylvania Ave to Olander, and then circle the lake to finish in Olander Park at the Neiderhouser. The 10K will follow the same course, but continue onto the University Parks trail, before coming back to the 5K course to finish. The courses are open to traffic and not a closed course. (Maps will be provided online and at packet pick-up)
Proceeds will go toward our youth programs for promoting positive, healthy lifestyle choices and the prevention of drug, alcohol use and other at-risk behaviors in our community. Sylvania Prevention Alliance provides programs that offer guidance and education and sponsors positive events that develop leadership and team building skills.
Hot Cocoa and grab and go snacks will be available after the race finish.
Age group awards will be awarded after the conclusion of the races.

BEGINNER 5K & HALF-MARATHON PLANS AS WELL AS RUN-WALK OPTION
Looking to run your first 5K? With Dave's Beginner 5K program, you have a detailed plan that mixes walking and running together until you are out there running 3.1 miles on your own.
If you are someone who prefers to run-walk, we have a half-marathon plan with coaches who train using a run-walk training method for the half-marathon distance. This "open pace" training plan is also used for anyone looking to complete their first marathon, and goal time is not a factor.
REMOTE TRAINING OPTION (online)
The Training Tilt app has been such a game-changer for our remote trainers that we’re now making it an option for everyone in the program! One of its standout features is the interactive training calendar, which lets you sync your Strava account or Garmin device to keep your workouts organized and on track.
The Dave's REMOTE TRAINERS will receive weekly coaching advice and encouragement from Dave's Training Team on the Training Tilt platform.
The Claws Out 5K race is an event designed to bring families together while raising funds to support the Northview Senior Class of 2026. The race will be a fun way to build school spirit and help fund important senior activities, including after-prom, and many senior class events. Funds generated support a safe, drug and alcohol-free event for our students and guests at after-prom.
