John Bryan State Park is distinguished by its remarkable limestone gorge, which the Little Miami State and National Scenic River cut many years ago. The gorge, a National Natural Landmark, offers hikers splendid views from the trail.

The John Bryan campground is nice but sells out fast. Another fantastic option is to stay at the Rustic Retreat in Xenia (a short drive away). The owners of the Rustic Retreat, which includes vintage Airstream campers and cozy guest rooms, are PACK PASS members and sponsors of the Wolf Pack running series. Join us for a fun, fast-paced, and family-friendly orienteering adventure set in the beautiful woods of John Bryan State Park and Camp Birch. Whether you’re brand new to orienteering or a seasoned navigator, runner, hiker, or explorer—this event is for you!
🧭 What Is Orienteering?
Orienteering is an outdoor navigation sport where participants use a detailed map and compass to locate checkpoints across varied terrain. It blends strategy, speed, problem-solving, and exploration—a real-world treasure hunt for all ages.

RACE START TIME: 10 a.m.
DIRECTIONS: Race location is at Walton Park in Spring Valley at the corner of Rt 725 and Rt 42. From Bellbrook, take RT 725 east 5 miles. From Xenia, take Rt 42 south 7 miles. From the Dayton area, take Rt 35 to Rt 42 south. From points south, take Rt 42 north. Spring Valley is located about midway between Waynesville and Xenia on Rt 42.
PARKING: Walton Park, Elm Street, Spring Valley, Ohio
COURSE: This is a very flat out-and-back course on a paved rail-to-trails recreation path. Each race distance will have a clearly marked turnaound point.
REGISTRATION: Registration is available to all through RunSignup prior to the race. Online registration remains open until approximately 15 minutes before race start and can be done in-person at the race. Hard copy registration sheets are also available on race day if needed. Minors may be registered on RunSignup by a parent or guardian or in-person with a parent or guardian present to sign the waiver.
CHECK-IN: All participants must check-in before the race and attach their assigned timing chip to one of their shoes. Look for the table with the green tablecloth to get your chip.
We recommend you arrive at least one hour before the race to park, check in, and warm-up prior to the race start.
FEES:
All Current ORRRC Members Run for Free (Fee waived automatically when your RSU membership profile is used, or bring your card/proof of membership to the event)
Non-Members:
– $10 for ages 15 and up
– Free for ages 14 and under
Members, if you don't register through RunSignup, you absolutely MUST show proof of membership on race day to be eligible for the member fees! No exceptions!

AWARDS: First Overall Male/Female, First Male/Female Masters (40 and over), First Grand Master Male/Female (50 and over), First Male/Female Senior (60 and over).
ANIMAL POLICY: Due to our insurance coverage, animals are not permitted at any ORRRC event. The only exception is service dogs, which must be clearly identified. Persons with any other animals will be removed from the event (will not be issued a timing chip, and will not appear in results or photos). We thank you in advance for your cooperation!
