25K DISTANCE! Point to Point from Pine Lane to Oak Grove – Experience the same trails as the 50k!
The Buckeye Trail 50k was started in 1994 as Joe Jurczyk’s informal birthday run/race. Joe has been running the Buckeye Trail since his college days – which predates the CVNP. The original course was an out and back starting at Oak Grove and going south to Pine Lane. It also included segments to Brecksville Road (the first course was actually longer than 50k!) The out and back course enabled all participants to see every other participant at some point along the course.
While the park systems mature and routes are changed to incorporate many different needs, the allure of the Buckeye Trail 50k remains. In the first year, the event had thirteen finishers with Steve Godale and Mark Godale, both running their first ultramarathon, finishing together in first place in 5:12:18. As trail running has become more popular, so has the race. As one of the first ultras in Ohio and now in its 31st year, the Buckeye Trail 50k is recognized as the oldest trail 50k in the state of Ohio.

2026 Minerva Strong Race Information
12th Annual MINERVASTRONG Memorial 5K
Friday NIGHT GLOW RUN July 17, 2026
Following the accident on November 22, 2014, that took the lives of three Minerva students, A’liyia Hancock,
Storm Angione & Savannah Russell, a scholarship was created in their memory. Due to the overwhelming
success from our sponsors and races the MINERVASTRONG Memorial Scholarship Fund has awarded over
$77,000 to graduating seniors. The prosperity of this fund depends solely on donations and participation from
this race. We hope you will join us this year as we continue to honor the lives of our three lost Lion’s.
The Races
Join us for our SECOND YEAR as we continue the legacy of Team Bernard Prince by running to inspire HOPE. Choose your race:
● 5K Run / Walk / Roll
● 1 Mile Run / Walk / Roll
● Kids Fun Run / Walk / Roll
Worship Music
Enjoy live worship music at Centennial Plaza before, during, and after the races. The performances will feature talented local artists, led by Jay Secrest of Perry Christian Church, creating an uplifting and spiritual atmosphere throughout the event.
Baptism Opportunity
Following the race, we invite you to take part in an outdoor baptism. Inspired by Bernard’s favorite shirt, which read, “Heaven is my Home, I’m just Here Recruiting,” this unique experience reflects his dream of making baptism accessible to everyone who feels called to commit their life to Jesus.
The Backstory
Team Bernard Prince was born from a heartfelt conversation in 2022 during a Physical Therapy session. Bernard, battling Kugelberg Welander Syndrome, expressed his dream of becoming a runner and declared, “I’m going to run 10,000 miles as soon as I get to Heaven!” This inspiring story was featured on Cleveland’s Channel 5 News. Watch the 7-minute video that beautifully captures the origins of Team Bernard:
