We do this event to raise money that we directly contribute to our local Sock Out Cancer Organization here in Binghamton, New York. The monies we raise than gets granted from Sock Out Cancer to our local Hospital Foundations and The Mercy House to manage and distribute to the local cancer patients in our own Community. Below are the amounts we have been able to contribute each of the five years that we have been doing this wonderful event. We are hoping and looking forward to this year – our 8th Anniversary year to be even bigger and better!!!
We have assisted many of our own patients by submitting the patients bills directly to the
Hospital Foundations for consideration in granting and paying the patient personal
expenses/bills to assist with their financial burden while being treated for cancer. Without this
event and Sock Out Cancer many of our own patients would struggle with financial hardships
during a very traumatic time in their lives. We are glad to be able to do our part to help our
Community and cancer patients!

When the running is done, the celebration moves to the base of the mountain. Grab a local craft beer and a great meal at Trax Pub & Grill, where the massive outdoor deck provides the perfect spot to relax and swap stories about the hills you just conquered.
Virgil Crest it ain't for... Looking for something more PC? Well... Virgil Crest Ain't Easy. Ascents and descents can be steep, cumulative gain and loss are significant, and there's always the chance for weather to double down on those challenges. But: The sunrise as you crest the opening climb, the singletrack forest, and the technical flow are... Beautiful. A New Path Same Grit. The Tradition To keep up with Ian's, perhaps intentional, tradition... the course WILL be different in some manner from years prior. We will try to get out ahead with course maps and updates. We can promise there will be climbing. We have every intention to have this year be a major course shift. As of right now, we're waiting on a few things to settle in before the course is fully released but it'll be everything Virgil has to offer, and then some... promise. WHAT Ya Get? We're looking into details of what exactly to get ya. Virgil has a history of cool, locally sourced finishers giveaways—those WILL be in the
mix. Expect something snazzy. RACE Schedule. Start times are posted above. Cut off for the 100mi is 36 hours from the official start. Aid Station cut offs will be posted once the full course is set. Distance Drop Policy: You will receive an unofficial finish time for the distance you drop into. PACERS & Poles. 100 Mile entrants are permitted pacers at or after 50 miles, or nightfall. Poles are permitted for all entrants; those over 50 miles in 2021 found them highly beneficial. The Only Request: Poles MUST fit in a drop bag if left at an aid station for transport. CREW Info. We’re working hard to make sure the stations are crew accessible. The Start/Finish is confirmed for crew access, and there will be at least one additional station throughout the course. Others will be updated soon. The Visual Experience. Wanna get a feel for the course and event through images? Explore the high-intensity moments captured by Ron Heerkens Jr. in the 2021 photo set. Two Hollows Monster Marathon and Half Marathon with age/gender-based start times
ABOUT: The Two Hollows Monster Marathon and Half is held on beautiful trails many haven't experienced in the Kennedy State Forest between Virgil and Harford, NY, home of the Forest Frolic runs and Virgil Crest Ultras (and the trail monster…). The course in on well-maintained trails in the western section of the Kennedy Forest, between the ‘two hollows’—Daisy Hollow and Babcock Hollow. The terrain includes long, rolling single track, a few twists and turns, and several challenging hills, including one in the last two miles of each 13.1-mile loop. Save something for the end! You’ll pass through shady hemlock groves and fern-carpeted hardwood forest with a few long views to inspire you. Even runners with years of Finger Lakes experience may have never run on these trails, so it’s a great opportunity to take in something new.The race has unique ‘monster’ age- and gender-based start times that allows an earlier start for older/non-male participants, and a nonbinary gender category (see start time tables below). The compact footprint of the course, staggered start times, generous cutoffs, and aid stations every 3–4 miles make this a decent first trail marathon or half, for those who are prepared for some long, beautiful, and sometimes tough miles. It’s also a nice last practice run for upcoming ultras.COURSE AND ELEVATION: Simple course map images are shown above and detailed course maps can be found on the race website (scroll down). The marathon has about 4,400 feet of elevation gain, with 2,200 feet for the half marathon.HYDRATION: This is a CUPLESS race; there will not be cups available at the aid stations. All runners must carry some sort of personal hydration system throughout the event.PARKING: Essential parking info and directions are on the race website. See the section labeled WHERE for details.STAGGERED START INFO: The Two Hollows Monster Marathon and Half feature age- and gender-based early starts. Men under age 38 start with the race clock, but women, nonbinary runners, and men 38 and older head off earlier, with the individual head starts determined by the World Masters Athletics Age-Graded Tables. The win could come down to a kick to the finish between a 65-year-old grandmother (101-minute head start) and her 40-year-old son (4-minute head start). See race website for details.

ABOUT 2026 brings back the OG 8-hour solo option, and from 2025 the 8-hour relay of 2-6 people and popular optional mini parallel of latitudes in the park during the last hour for even more mileage! This low-key, flat race is perfect for any type of athlete–those who want to go fast, those who want to go long, and anywhere in between. With no mileage or time cutoffs, all paces are welcome and walkers are encouraged. How many parallels of latitude can YOU complete in 8 hours? The Parallel of Latitude is an 8 hour fixed time race featuring a 3.45-mile out-and-back on a flat, scenic rail trail next to beautiful Dryden Lake. From the time the clock starts at 8:00 AM, to the time it stops at 4:00 PM, how many miles you complete is up to you. With one large aid station available at the start of every loop, you’re never too far from all the pickles, soda, and potato chips your heart desires. Need a break between loops to rest your feet? Erect your own pop-up tent or set up inside one of the two
pavilions with the essentials: a cooler, someone to fan you with a palm frond, and a record player to spin Billy Joel’s greatest hits. Just beware the chair, for she is a cunning temptress, and if you spend too long relaxing the race director just might chase you back out onto the trail. What’s up with the name of your event? How does it even apply to what we’re doing here? A parallel of latitude is an imaginary line that circles the Earth, parallel to the Equator. These lines are used in geographic coordinate systems to define locations north or south of the Equator. The race course is aligned very closely to the 42nd parallel north, the line of latitude that passes through the Finger Lakes region of New York, including Dryden, where the race takes place.Elevation Gain: Little to none.Online pre-registration is required and is open through 12:00 PM (noon) Friday, September 25, 2026. There is no in-person, same-day registration at the race, so plan ahead. WHERE & WHEN Race day is Saturday
September 26, 2026. The race clock starts at 8:00 AM, and stops at 4:00 PM. There are no custom start times. You can be out on the course for as much or as little as you like during that time.On race day runners should head to Dryden Lake Park, 5 minutes from Dryden, NY and 25 minutes from Ithaca, NY. Race HQ and start/finish will be located at the big pavilion in the park–look for the FLRC feather flags. Parking is available in designated spots in the park, or by the dam less than a quarter of a mile away. You will receive a special award when you reach designated intervals. These awards are separate from the race day award, which you will still receive in addition to the lifetime mileage award. RELAY RACE Relay teams may consist of 2-6 members and can run the entire 8 hours. See our website for full details. MINI PARALLEL OF LATITUDES During the last hour of the race, mini parallel of latitudes may be completed in the park. These are optional and will count toward the mileage total. About Well done, you've discovered the registration page for the most scenic and challenging trail races that Central New York has to offer. Starting and finishing within Morgan Hill State Forest (camping available), the Morgan Hill Half Marathon and Morgan Hill "Meat Grinder" Marathon courses follow the nearly-all-single-track Onondaga Trail alongside misty ponds, up to incredible vistas, and crossing above waterfalls; past the highest point in Onondaga County on single track mountain bike trails; then back onto the Onondaga Trail to the finish line after running over (or around) the gravestone of one very unlucky guy from the 1700s.The marathon course adds the cruel but beautiful Fellows Hill loop and an out-and-back on the Onondaga Trail to Route 13. With the cooler temperatures and fall colors of late September, this is East Coast trail running at its absolute finest with all the rocks and roots that come with it. The memories will remain with you long after the blisters have healed and
the muscle soreness and fatigue have faded.Morgan Hill Trail Races takes place concurrently with the Hill to Hollow 100km and 100km relay, are Trail Sisters approved, and are UTMB Index races. It takes a tremendous amount of work by a great many people and organizations to provide public access to and maintain the beautiful land and trails upon which these races depend. SCTR is immensely grateful to NYS DEC, Finger Lakes Trail Conference, North Country National Scenic Trail Association CNY Chapter, Highland County Park, the ADK-Onondaga Chapter, and the many private landowners, trail stewards, and volunteers without whom this would not be possible. Please consider making a donation to the FLTC during registration; SCTR will match donations up to $250. Or better yet, become a member at https://fingerlakestrail.org. Race Details All runners will receive a pair of highly coveted SCTR socks. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers for each distance in each gender division.Aid station
