We are beyond excited to celebrate the 6th Annual Philadelphia HBCU 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, June 27, 2026! This milestone event is a true testament to the incredible support and dedication from our community, and it’s thanks to all of you that this has become the largest run/walk of its kind in the country.
For the past six years, we’ve come together in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Delaware, alongside our HBCU Alumni Alliance affiliates in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., to raise crucial funds for our students while promoting healthy living. With your help, we’ve successfully raised over $100K in scholarships, directly benefiting students across our region.
This year, we return to Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, NJ, with the excitement of both in-person and virtual participation to ensure everyone—no matter where they are—can continue to support this incredible cause. Together, we are building on the legacies of our beloved HBCUs, and every step taken will help continue this powerful tradition.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our corporate and individual supporters for your unwavering commitment. Your involvement brings our event motto to life: “Run for YOU, Run for THEM, Run for OUR LEGACY.” Without your support, this event would not be possible.
Let’s continue this journey together, honoring the past, empowering the future, and running for the next generation of HBCU students! Thank you for being part of this legacy!

Overall and Age Group awards
While growing up in Mount Holly, New Jersey, Ed Espenshade played catch with his dad, attended Phillies and Sixers games, and dreamed of being an athlete. But soon after he acquired a paper route as a twelfth birthday present, Ed was hit by a car while attempting to cross a road. After blood was drawn during an examination in the emergency room, Ed received shocking news: he had diabetes.
As his path took an unexpected turn, Ed describes how he became more determined than ever to pursue his athletic goals. After an unsuccessful attempt at soccer, Ed eventually found his home as a cross country runner in high school and college. It seemed that Ed was defying all odds as he continued to run hundreds of road races that included four marathons. But everything changed in 2003 when Ed found himself face down on the street during a training run and soon received another stunning diagnosis: he had a rare nonmalignant brain tumor. As he details his continuing journey with two serious health conditions, Ed shines a light on the importance of keeping hope, faith, and perseverance alive in the face of lifes greatest challenges.

We are honored to host the annual Patrolman Samuel C. Irvin Legacy 5K Walk/Run at Mansfield Twp. Park. The event will take place on the paved Kinkora Trail that winds through woods and farm fields. This event is in memory of our 23-year-old son, Sam, who tragically passed away from sudden cardiac arrest on July 23, 2023, while working out. Following his passing, we learned that Sam had a genetic mutation known as Brugada Syndrome. Sam was a three-sport athlete in high school and played college baseball. He had recently graduated from college and the Gloucester Police Academy and was serving as a patrolman for the Mansfield Police Department at the time of his death. He is survived by his son Beau Samuel. This event, with your participation and support, will not only honor Sam's legacy but also make a meaningful impact by supporting student athletic scholarships established in Sam's name at Northern Burlington County Regional High School. Together, we can honor Sam's legacy and make a
meaningful impact!

Two organizations with a shared mission. Empowering others through love, faith, and community.
The WOW Center
The WOW Center is a New Jersey- based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a mission of empowering real women with real stories to thrive, dream, believe, and pursue the impossible through love and community. The WOW Center is a community of women who stand alongside each other imperfect, restored, and redeemed. Through the sharing of personal testimony and faith in action, WOW empowers women to fully embrace and believe, “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13 NKJV)
People often ask, “Why is it called WOW?”
“WOW!” is the reaction almost always expressed when listening to the amazing life changing testimonies of so many incredible women we are privileged to come alongside. With a mission of empowering women, The WOW Center’s natural target population is women, but we also know and truly believe that if you empower a woman you will impact her family and broader community as well. Daily, we join hands to pray, support, empower, love and encourage one another in the valley or on the mountain top. We do life together through love and community!

The Life Focus Center
Our heart is to walk alongside individuals, couples, and families—helping them find freedom, restore relationships, and grow in Christ. Over the years, we have seen many lives transformed as people experience God’s healing power and learn to live with renewed purpose. Whether you are seeking guidance for yourself, your marriage, your family, or simply want to grow closer to the Lord, we are here to help you focus on what matters most—life in Christ.
