The race consists of three stages along, and in, the New River. The trail is flat with a crushed cinder surface, and the river flows smoothly with small rapids under normal conditions. The race begins with a 40-mile out and back bike leg, followed by a 12.1-mile downriver kayak paddle, and ends with a half marathon run along the river for a total of 65.2 miles. Although the race is long, it's perfect for beginners and accomplished athletes due to its flattish nature.
Participants may compete solo or in teams of two or three.
We ask that you thoroughly read the rules and guidelines (PDF) before the race. They cover stage meeting times, transitions, requirements, courses, water and aid stations, and recommendations to make your race as trouble-free as possible. If you have any questions, please post them on the Facebook page — the New River Trail family is a friendly group, and someone from Virginia State Parks or the community will be happy to provide answers. You can also contact Steve Boyd with questions.
The race is limited to 300 entrants, so register early to ensure a spot. Solo competitors and teams with at least two students or faculty members from the same university qualify for a collegiate discount registration fee. In addition to their registered categories, sponsors' teams compete for a special award and bragging rights.

COURSE MAP
The Pulaski MTN-X is a new multi-surface event held in Pulaski County, Virginia. We will have three different distances--a 105 mile long course with over 12,000 feet of climbing, a 52 mile middle-distance course with just under 6000 feet of climbing, and a non-competitive 31 mile course. All of these rides will be about 65% gravel and 35% asphalt, although some asphalt sections will be backcountry, narrow rough roads.
This will be a “timed sectors" event, which means that you won't be racing from the start gun to the finish line. There will be timed segments throughout the course, and those are the race sectors. Your times from each of the segments will be added together for your finishing time on which you will be ranked. This format allows two things--foremost it allows for a safe event where riders won't be racing through stop signs and intersections. All of our timed sectors will be on stretches of road where the rider will have the right-of-way so that no rules of the road need to be broken to race. Secondly, it means that we can place our aid stations outside of these timed segments, so that there is no rush in filling up bottles and grabbing some snacks--those aid stations will be in untimed areas so you can wait for your friends and know that the clock is not ticking. We think you will love this format, and it also makes for a less lonely day on the bike.
All entry fees include a post-ride meal with a beverage and a t-shirt.
Be sure to plan on coming on Friday afternoon and join us for our shake out ride on the New River Trail along with an expo and festivities at the brewery!
Come experience the Davidson Lands Conservancy's 21st Annual Run for Green! Our course is in the beautiful small town of Davidson, North Carolina. Be careful, though, it is so charming, you may just want to move here. We could not be more excited to bring you the quality race that you have come to expect. Our course winds its way through lovely little neighborhoods with long stretches out in the woods on the greenway where you can take in the serenity of nature. Expect to encounter a hill or two, this is not a flat course. But we will do our best to keep you motivated the whole way as you enjoy your run and the spirit of competition!
The charming town of Davidson offers up a relaxing weekend coupled with reaching your running goals. There are wonderful local places to stay including the Davidson Village Inn and Homewood Suites. You can carb up for your run at one of the many amazing restaurants from Kindred to Mandolino's, to Carrburritos and many more. After you finish your run, whether it is the 5K, 10K, or half marathon, you should bring your friends or family to enjoy the festivities on the green, visit the Farmer's Market and take advantage of the wonderful shops and restaurants. There are so many good places to see, shop and eat that you’ll want to stay for the whole weekend!

Greetings! The 10th Annual Chad Lovette Memorial Trail Run Hosted by numerous friends and family will be held on 9/27/2025 at Cub Creek Park in Wilkesboro, NC!
For our 10th year, we will be featuring RaceResult chip timing to improve timing accuracy and facilitate near-live results posting. Signs with race-specific QR codes will be posted near the start/finish line so you can scan them with your mobile device to access results. As a result of this upgrade, your race bib will include two RFID tags affixed to the back of the bib. Please take care not to fold or crinkle the tagged bib as this can damage the RFID tags and potentially cause you to be missed by the timer’s HF readers.
Afterparty plans are to be announced later.
We look forward to welcoming newcomers and past participants for this fun trail run. Also available -- the virtual fun run/walk option for those that are not able to make it in person (but who really want that T-shirt!) Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society, specifically The Steel Magnolia's Battle/Necessary Relay for Life Team.
A donation of $150 or more gets your name on the back of the race T-shirt and two free T's. Please reach out to [email protected] for more info.
We now have Facebook and Instagram pages (@ChadLovetteMemorialTrailRun) and hope that you will follow us tag us in a photo or video when completing your run/walk. Interested in being a race sponsor?
NOTE:
Registration: Registration will be available on-line through September 26 at noon. Day of race registration will be available, but no T-shirts will be available for registrations after September 14. The Virtual Trail Run/Walk will be active through October 4th to allow the donation portal to remain open.
More about our beloved Chad Lovette and the inspiration for this run: Chad was a native of Wilkes County and passed away on July 9, 2016 after an extended battle with brain cancer. Chad was a graduate of Wilkes Central High School and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He was a singer/songwriter and most enjoyed playing music with his brother, Shay, and with his band, Green House.. His passions were traveling far and wide, hiking, surfing, camping, and living large with his family and friends. This race is in honor of Chad's love for life, the outdoors, music, and fellowship. Join us!
Our mission is to evangelize, disciple, and serve the church worldwide, working with our brothers and sisters to spread the Good News of JESUS CHRIST to children, youth, and adults.
