    A family-friendly 10K, 5K and Fun Run on one of North Carolina's most beautiful islands -- Harkers Island. The Core Sound Run begins and ends "at the end of the road" - at the edge of Core Sound.

    High-quality, long sleeve t-shirts provided to each 5k and 10k participant. Register by end of day March 19th for guaranteed t-shirt size.

    Also, prizes provided per age group and overall winners of the 5k and 10k races:

    1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes per age group.

    Age groups: 1-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-74, 75+

    Packet Pickup: Early packet pickup will be available on Thursday, April 2nd & Friday, April 3rd 10am-5pm at the Core Sound Museum Store at 806 Arendell St., Morehead City, NC.

    The Fort Macon trail run is cross country style surfaces with moderate elevation. Trail is both wooded and full sun with footbridge crossings and views of Beaufort Inlet, Bogue Sound and Atlantic Ocean throughout course.

    Who We Are:

    Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter, Inc (OWLS) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) wildlife shelter where injured, sick, and orphaned native North Carolina wildlife is cared for in a professional and compassionate manner.

    Our mission is to rehabilitate and release the thousands of animals admitted to our clinic each year and to teach fellow North Carolinians how to responsibly and peacefully coexist with wildlife. OWLS has all state and federal permits required to legally care for wild animals.

    OWLS receives no county, state or federal funding and relies on the donations from the public, corporate and foundation supporters to achieve our mission.

    Education: OWLS provides valuable educational outreach to classrooms and local community events to connect people to nature and wildlife.

    Rehabilitation: OWLS rescues small mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians if they are injured or orphaned and need human care. Our priority is animal welfare.

    Release: Every effort is made to release animals back into their natural habitat once they have been rescued and rehabilitated.

    Registration Fees:

    $35 - includes an OWLS short sleeve tee shirt.

    Register by March 31st to guarantee your race shirt.

    **Pre Sign in and T shirt Pick up will be Friday the 10th, 5:00 to 7:00 at OWLS, 100 Wildlife Way Newport.

    Course:

    The Fort Macon trail run is cross country style surfaces both wooded and full sun with moderate elevation, footbridge crossings and views of Beaufort Inlet, Bogue Sound and Atlantic Ocean throughout course.
