All Winter Warm Up program participants, their family and friends, and all of the Greater Lansing community are invited to participate in the FREE Blue Cross Community 5K Walk/Run on Sunday, March 21 at 10am at Hawk Island Park in Lansing.

Over 700 Lansing-area residents have joined this year’s Blue Cross Winter Warm Up presented by the Playmakers Fitness Foundation and the Community Partners in Health. This free, eight-week 5K training challenge is designed to help residents of all ages take their first step toward fitness. Winter Warm Up participants have been training with certified Good Form Running and Walking coaches from the Playmakers Fitness Foundation since January, and many will be running or walking their first ever 5K. We encourage all of the Greater Lansing community to join, support, and celebrate with us by registering for the Blue Cross Community 5K Walk/Run!

Potter Park Zoo will once again serve as the host for the event. We hope you can join us for a day of fun including the 5K run/walk, Easter Egg Hunt, children's activities, and you-know-who...THE EASTER BUNNY! All registered participants get same-day FREE entry into the zoo!! The 5K run/walk will start and finish near the entrance of the zoo and will go along the scenic Lansing River Trail. All proceeds go to youth and families in Ingham County. The Child Benefit Fund has been assisting at-risk families in Ingham County for over 40 years, providing funding for clothing, sports fees and equipment, emergency needs, extra-curricular activities, and holiday gifts for approximately 250-300 children per year. TAKING ANY RACE DAY REGISTRATIONS!

5K Run/Walk: The 5K is chip-timed on a beautiful, scenic, and accurate course along the Lansing River Trail. All participants will receive a t-shirt and finisher's medal. The race will have an open start time from 11:00 AM until 11:15 AM for convenience. If you are looking for a more competitive race, please be at the start line at 10:55 AM. Otherwise, you can start the race at your leisure. The entire course is paved, so it is stroller friendly.

Virtual Option: Can't join us in person? We are also offering a VIRTUAL option. Run or walk with us from anywhere, anytime on April 4. We will ship the t-shirts and medals directly to you!

Easter Egg Hunt: We are happy to have an Easter Egg Hunt again for this year's event! All children under 12 will need to register and will receive a bag, t-shirt, and a guaranteed minimum number of eggs from the egg course. The Easter Egg Hunt begins at 10:30 AM and will be at the Tiger Den Pavilion.

Family pricing: Have other friends or family wishing to participate? Register with 3 or more people and receive a discount of $3 per registrant.

T-shirt: Unisex and kid sizes available.

Overall Awards: Overall, Master (over 40), and Grand Master (over 50) male and female will receive an award

Medals: Every participant in the 5K will get a finisher's medal, as well as awards for the top 2 in each age group! Age groups are 7 & under, 8-11, 12-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70-74, and 75+. Please note that awards will only be given to attendees of the in-person event.

Packet Pickup: Packets can be picked up on Friday April 3, 2026 at the Tiger Den pavilion at the Potter Park Zoo from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM, or as early as 8:30 AM the day of the event.

Come join us on the Lansing River Trail, starting at Brenke Fish Ladder, Saturday, April 25th for CCIEC's 14th Annual Run For Giving 5K Run/Walk. The race will start at 9:00 am. Our race will have chipped timing with live results!

Pricing: $25 until March 20th, pricing will be $30 from March 21st to April 19th, and $35 one week before the event. Be sure to register online, there is no race day registration.

Special pricing: Ages 18 and under $5 discount. Families/Groups who register 3 or more participants at the same time receive a $5/discount per participant.

Run, walk or roll! This race is stroller and wheelchair accessible.

Proceeds from this event will go towards empowering those in vulnerable situations in our community through our basic needs programming, including our Community Kitchen, Food Pantry, Personal Needs Pantry and Clothing Closet.

Packet Pickup: Pickup at Catholic Charities - St. Vincent Campus (2800 W. Willow St.) on April 24th from 3-6 PM and race day morning starting at 8am.

T-shirts: T-shirts are guaranteed until April 16th and then available as supplies last after that date. They will be distributed at packet pick-up the day before the race. If you're not able to pick up the packet the day before, you can pick it up the day of the race from 8-9 AM near the start/finish line at the registration table.

2026 marks the 33rd anniversary of the Capital City River Run.

The Capital City River Run makes a real impact within the community, benefiting Impression 5 Science Center and its mission to provide children and families access to science exploration through hands-on exhibits and participatory programming.

Annual races include a Half Marathon, 5K Walk/Run, and the Sohn’s Kid’s Race. All half marathon and 5K race participants receive a crew neck sweatshirt (your choice of two colors) and finishers medal. The race will be chip timed by the Michigan Running Foundation and you can check your results during the race and on the web at Playmakers.com.

The kids races will take place on Saturday, September 20 at 11AM at Impression 5 Science Center. The one mile race will take place on the Lansing River Trail. All participants will be invited to spend the day at the Science Museum and enjoy a pizza party after the event. Participants of the event will get a Stainless Steel Water Bottle and a finishers medal.

The half marathon, and 5K races will start on Michigan Ave in front of the Lansing Center, utilizing Michigan Ave, Grand River Ave, MSU campus and the Lansing River Trail and will end on Grand Ave, utilizing Adado Park in downtown Lansing. Both races will start at 8AM on Sunday, September 21.

Packet pick up will take place on Saturday, September 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Impression 5 Science Center in Lansing.

We are excited to host our 6th Annual Miles for Mentorship event to support Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region’s mission to ignite the promise and power of youth! Miles for Mentorship is an outdoor, walk or run 5K. This year the event will be held at Hawk Island starting and ending at the Red Tail Shelter. Proceeds to this event help support the agency’s mission to create 1-to-1 mentoring relationships so that all youth achieve their full potential!

Back again! children 12 years of age and under are invited to participate in our Spooky Sprint Kids Run! Halloween costumes are encouraged, and each participant will receive a treat bag and finisher medal at the finish line. The Spooky Sprint is free of charge!

The race will be professionally chip timed by the Michigan Running Foundation. Results will be posted during the race and online at the results tab, top of the page.

This 5k race is an out and back course that starts and ends at the Red Tail Shelter. The full race course can be found here.

Join us for a MiCHN fundraiser 5k and 1 mile run/walk at Homeschool 'Day At The Dome' 2026 @ the Capitol on October 13th 2026!

Location: Michigan State Capitol Complex (Lansing)

Start time: run at 9:30am, walk at 10:30am

Events: 5k and 1-mile Run/Walk

All registration is done online thru this Run Signup page.

Event Pricing:

Under 5 - FREE (no t-shirt)

Ages 5-12: $10 until 9/22. $15 9/23 to 9/30. $20 10/1 to 10/13.

Ages 13-18: $20 until 9/22. $25 9/23 to 9/30. $30 10/1 to 10/13.

Ages 19+: $35 until 9/22. $40 9/23 to 9/30. $45 10/1 to 10/13.

Special age based pricing is automatically applied during registration.

Race T-shirts: T-shirts are included with registration thru September 30th. T-shirts are not included with registrations after 9/30. Adult and Youth Sizes available.

Course: The entire run/walk is on the Capitol complex- concrete sidewalk/paved path (no city streets). The 5k is a 3-loop course.

5k Awards:

1, 2, and 3rd place per age category:

Male: 5-10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40 and over

Female: 5-10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40 and over

Grand Master: top male and female over 50

Senior Master: top male and female over 60

1 Mile Awards: Top male and female for the age groups 5-10 and age 11-14

Results: The event is professionally timed by the Michigan Running Foundation. Results will be live during the event and texted to you as you cross the finish line.

Ugly Sweater 5K: A Fun Run to Support Greater Lansing Food Bank & Feeding America.

Sign up to receive our Ugly Sweater 5k sweater and lace up your running shoes for the Ugly Sweater 5K, a fun run benefiting Feeding America (virtual runners) and local food banks (local in-person runners)!

During the past two years, it has become clear that inflation and food prices are exacerbating hunger across America. According to a 2023 United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) 2023 report, the number of people living in food insecure households in the U.S. in 2022 increased to 44 million. This is an increase of more than 30 percent for all individuals and 40 percent for children compared the previous year — the highest rate and number since 2014 and the largest one-year increase in food insecurity since 2008. (Greater Lansing Food Bank, 2023 Annual Report)

Join runners, walkers, and festive fitness lovers across the country as we come together to fight hunger—one stride at a time. Register for our in person and professionally timed event on December 5, 2026 or join virtually - Whether you hit the treadmill, jog through your neighborhood, or take a scenic route at your local park, you can complete the 5K anytime.

How It Works:

🎄 Select your race: in-person or virtual. Register online and receive your Ugly Sweater, race bib and participant packet.

🎄 When registering as VIRTUAL, select shipping add-on to have your packet shipped to you or plan to pick your packet up in person at Playmakers in Okemos, MI date TBD.

🎄 Run or walk your 5K (3.1 miles) at your own pace, wherever you choose or join us in person - location to be announced in early 2026.

🎄 Virtual runners: Report your time to Run Sign Up by December 5th at 12 PM.

🎄 Show off your ugly sweater and share your run on social media using #UglySweater5K on our social page.

🎄 Make an impact—a portion of your registration fee goes directly to Feeding America and local food banks to help provide meals to families in need this holiday season.

🎁 Swag: Cable Knit Ugly Sweater, finisher medal and custom event bib.

🎁 Refreshments: hot coffee, cocoa and cookies available at the finish line!

🎁 Run for Free: start a fundraiser during registration, raise $200 and have your registration refunded to you!
