The Maine Community Bank Maine Marathon features an out-and-back course for all three races -- marathon, relay and half marathon -- with rolling hills and views of the Portland skyline, the Back Cove, Casco Bay, and peak fall foliage. The Marathon is USATF certified and a Boston Marathon qualifier. The Half Marathon is also USATF certified, and the Marathon Relay is a 2 to 4-person marathon-length event.
Make it a weekend for the whole family! Enjoy Portland’s breweries, restaurants, Old Port shopping and scenic beauty before and after your race. Your family and friends can easily access the start/finish line along beautiful Back Cove.
Weekly Back Cove Series Rules
The Back Cove Weekly 5k Series registration requires the same donation no matter what point of the series that registration takes place. Registration costs a flat rate of $50 and only needs to be paid once whether you run 1 race or all 14.
A portion of each registration fee is donated to Portland Trails and A Running Passion!
Registration is online only. Prior to your first race, you can pick up your bib in the Portland Store for the week from May 20th at 10am through Wednesday, May 27th at 4pm during store hours. If you aren't able to pick up your bib at the store before the series starts, you can pick your number up at the Back Cove before the start of each race from 5:15pm until the race starts at 6pm or during our regular business hours.
Please keep your bib for the entire series as you will only receive 1 bib!
T-Shirts can be added to your registration at a $10 charge. New for this year is a season finisher hoodie option. Run all 14 races and receive a free WBCS series finisher hoodie for your fall adventures!

Due to city requirements, we may only have 250 participants in each Wednesday Back Cove 5k. Registered runners will be required to check-in on line each week. Check-in begins on Saturday morning at 8:00 am and continues until Wednesday at 2:00 pm or until capacity reaches 250, whichever comes first. Check in will be closed at that time. See below for directions on the check-in process.
Please note, if you do not plan on running, please do not check in! If you run in the weekly Back Cove without checking in, you risk having the event cancelled. Please respect this request and don’t run if you are not checked in!
The entire series is treated as one event. Once you register, and pick up your race number, keep your WBCS number and visibly wear it. Your race number is how we identify you.

June 3rd is Global Running Day at Marathon Sports! As in previous years, we will use the Weekly Back Cove Series as our race portion, the course distance is 5K and will begin at 6pm. We will also offer a casual group run, about 3-5 miles in distance, leaving directly from our Portland location at 6pm. No registration is required for the group fun run but you must be registered and checked in to participate in the Back Cove race.
After both the Weekly Back Cove Series and our group fun run, everyone will meet back at Marathon Sports- Portland for refreshments and socializing. We hope to see you on June 3rd!

Mountain weather is subject to extreme changes and a large portion of the course over the mountain is fully exposed to the elements. Be responsible. Lace up your walking and running shoes and join us at Payson Park for the 18th annual KAT-Walk & 14th Annual Karo-5K for Brain Aneurysm Awareness. The route will be along the beautiful ocean-side Back Cove Boulevard in Portland, Maine. This will be a special day to remember and honor loved ones lost to or having survived a brain aneurysm.
9:30 to 10:30 - Registration and activities including family gatherings, brain aneurysm awareness information, and activities for the kids including face painting. Bring a picnic and enjoy the cove. This is a great opportunity to meet and support other families affected by brain aneurysms.
10:20 - opening and presentation of scholarship and research awards.
11:00 - Karo-5K race kick-off followed by the KAT-Walk.
12:15 - Runners awards and closing ceremonies.

*Due to recent changes in fee structures in the City of Portland and to keep race entry fee reasonable, packet pickup is 0.9 miles away from the start and 0.4 miles away from the finish. Maps will be provided. Driving time is less than 5 minutes from each location. There will be 15 minutes between closing of packet pickup and race start to allow runners to assemble.
No Refunds. In the event of catastrophic weather, a public health crisis, or extreme events beyond race managements’ control every effort will be made to hold the race on an alternate date. The Casco Bay Islands lie off the coast of Portland, Maine, and consist of several hundreds of islands. Some of these are uninhabited and relatively small, while others are larger with established communities, each featuring its unique charm and vibe. The most popular islands to visit include Bailey, Chebeague, Cliff, Great Diamond, Little Diamond, Long, and Peaks.
Kilkenny Ridge Race
The Kilkenny Ridge Race course follows the Kilkenny Ridge Trail from the South Pond Recreation Area in Stark, New Hampshire to the Jefferson Inn in Jefferson, New Hampshire. The traverse is around 25 miles each way with approximately 7,500 feet of climbing for each direction, and it takes runners through some of the wildest and most remote scenery of the White Mountain National Forest. Runners will tackle two of the White Mountain 4,000 footers, Mount Cabot and Mount Waumbek, in addition to several other peaks on the southern part of the route called The Bulge, The Horn, and Mount Starr King.The course is not marked as the signage is very good along the ridge trail. Please study maps before running the course. We will have maps available at bib pickup. You will need to pay attention. Runners are also required to download the GPS track to their phone and/or watch.50 mile participants will start and finish at the South Pond Recreation Area and run to the Jefferson Inn for the turnaround aid station.25 mile participants will start at the Jefferson Inn off Route 2 after being bused from the South Pond Recreation Area, and make their way back to the finish at South Pond via the Kilkenny Ridge Trail.25K participants will be bused to the start at the Berlin Fish Hatchery, and tackle 4,000 feet of climbing along the Kilkenny Ridge Trail on their way back to the finish at the South Pond Recreation Area.This course is WILD AND WOOLY so prepare for it to feel very remote.

After a very successful 2025 race, we are excited to invite you to another live Save Your Breath and Silent Auction Event for 2026. There will be lots of auction items to bid on again. Due to its popularity we have retained a virtual run for those who would rather run their race their way or cannot travel to Augusta to participate in the live chip timed event by Brian Berkemeyer at"Run In A Race." New this year is a timed walk. Yes, walkers who wish to be timed will receive a race bib. You must be registered as a time walker to receive the bib. We had lots of inquiries last year about a time walk. Details are below on numerous discount codes that are offered for this upcoming event.
Enjoy the music at the start/finish line before and after you take part in this fast and relatively flat out and back 5k on the rail trail between the Y and the picturesque adirondack chairs in Hallowell.
The award ceremony and silent auction will be held, yet again, at YMCA and will begin once all participants have returned to the gym. All winners must be present to receive their award. All participants will receive a finishers medal.

The Breakaway 5K and Marilyn & Nat Golzbein Memorial Fun Run are the principal fundraisers supporting scholarships for Old Orchard Beach High School graduates. The scholarships are awarded by the MAPS Scholarship Foundation, a group of retired educators and former students from OOB who aspire to support the continuing education of OOB High School graduates. 100% of the proceeds directly benefit the MAPS Foundation.
In 2025, MAPS Scholarship Foundation granted sixteen $1000 scholarships to Old Orchard Beach High School graduates.
The race start location is at the corner of Walnut St. & Milliken St. in front of the public parking lot. Trek Day Information
UltraTrax Cannon Mountain kicks off at 7am on September 6, 2026. The starting line will be open from 7am to 10am with the post-trek party starting at 11am. It is not a race, but it is a timed event and walkers will have 10 hours to complete the course. Bibs can be mailed or picked up the morning of the event. **IF YOU REGISTER AFTER 8/15/26, BIBS MUST BE PICKED UP IN PERSON. A friend or relative can pick up a bib if you can't attend. Complimentary parking is available onsite. Finishers will receive a custom t-shirt and velcro patch. Level 3 and 4 participants will also qualify to earn our coveted UltraTrax Grey Wolf medal. Refreshments and food will be available after the race.

About Our Non-Profit: Our mission is to provide free technology to children with cancer and other serious illnesses to support their education, as well as their social and emotional well-being. Technology, including iPads, laptops, robots and Internet access, enables our children to continue their education during treatment while also remaining connected to family, friends and medical providers. Simply stated, we connect kids when their world is out of reach.
Course Description: The 5K run/walk is an out and back course starting at Bradeen Street and ending at Nasson Community Center. (Nasson Gym) Course is partially on road but mostly on well groomed Rail Trail portion of the Mousam Way with turn around at Deering Pond. Run or walk with the beautiful fall foliage all around you.

Adults (18+) $20 in advance, $25 day of race
Teens (13-17) $15
Children (6-12) $10
Children under 5 free when accompanying a paying adult.
Leashed dogs welcomed!
Awards: A special prize for fastest female, male and dog. Fastest dog prize generously donated by Waggerstown, Wells, ME.
Additionally, medals for first and second female & male runners in all age categories. Please consider gathering pledges.
Team that raises most pledges wins a pizza party. Free t-shirts to all $250+ donors.

6th Annual Trail Fest

Join the Arundel Conservation Trust Community on Saturday, September 26th for a race through our trails!
Trail Fest features a 5k, 10k and a half marathon trail race. This event is in proud partnership with our sister organization, the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust who is hosting their annual Trail Fest on August 9th, 2026.
Half Marathon: 9:00am
10k Race: 10:00am
5k Race: 10:30am
The courses are set on the beautifully maintained ACT Multi-Purpose Trail and the Eastern Trails with stunning woodland and stream views. Runners will start at the new Arundel Municipal Building parking lot on 257 Limerick Road. All participants receive a medal and a t-shirt! There will be a live band and great food - come join the fun!

Advance registration will close on September 25 at noon. You may register in person on race morning.
