On October 11 St. Mary’s and Bates College are teaming up for a 5K Run/Walk and Kids Obstacle Course. The event is aptly named Steps for Hope. Our collective goal is to raise funds to expand the spaces available for behavioral health hospitalization and bring awareness to the mental health crises affecting our youth and adults from our community and every corner of Maine.
Starting and ending at Oxbow Beer Garden, Moxie's Memorial 5k is a trail run/walk in Oxford, Maine, to benefit Mission Working Dogs. Moxie is the main reason our non-profit was founded, with the goal of providing properly trained service dogs to those in need in our community. The course will start at Oxbow and run along the blue ski trail (Anne's Moon Dance), then up to the Mission Working Dogs training center via a trail connector to Moxie's Place and back to the brewery. The first 200 in-person participants will receive a race t-shirt at check-in. Additional Mission Working Dogs merchandise will be available for purchase.
Due to safety and liability regulations, only properly trained service dogs will be allowed on the race course - no pets. In-person participants who are age 21 or over will receive one beer ticket to Oxbow Beer Garden, to be redeemed the day of the race only. Oxbow's kitchen will open early for the day at 11 am so you can enjoy pizza and drinks after the race. Restrooms will be available before and during the event.
The Course Deets The Land of Light race is a really unique opportunity to race on six different trail systems while benefiting two local non profits! The 100k course is a fully human powered category where runners cannot use a car to travel between parcels but must cycle there! The course totals 25k running & 75k cycling and will be a feat worth boasting about! It starts at the Virgil Parris Preserve, starting the race with a 3k loop to warm up the legs before the crushing climb on the bike over Streaked Mt into town and heading to Roberts Farm on a 5k loop at Roberts Farm Preserve and then travel to Noyes Mountain to run a steep 4k lollipop. Then down to Shepard's Farm for a rolling 8k lollipop through Witt Swamp and the farm preserve, running past a collection of awesome artwork and statues. Racers then head to Twin Bridges and run on the Crooked River parcel for another 4k loop through lush forest before making the final ride to Hawk Mt, racing a short up and down 3k to the finish line at
the overlook gazing south across Bear Pond towards Sebago. 100k relay teams will be allowed to swap rider or runner at any transition point but not mid course. This hand off can be done at any trailhead. Relay teams can alternate which partner rides or runs more than once. You do not want to miss this! There is no set travel course for the bike segments. Cyclists can use any open public road to access the parcels BUT MUST ABIDE BY ALL LEGAL ROAD LAWS. Racers cannot use an e-bike. GPS and navigation ARE allowed. Racers are not required to submit GPS data to the director unless they are in contention for a podium spot and are requested by the RD. This is to verify that the entire course was actually covered. Cyclists may use any legal open public road to access the parcels based on their understanding of the local area and the limitations of their bikes. We will provide what we feel is a good safe route so that racers may be prepared for the day but navigation will ultimately be on racers as
the road travel is open and unsupported. Race Start Times:100k 900am at Virgil Parris Preserve on Sodom rd in Buckfield Beneficiaries All profits from this race are donated directly to TruStrength Tomorrow, a 501c3 non-profit company that provides scholarships to youth, within the Oxford Hills School District, to be able to attend indoor/outdoor fitness programs that will help them live a healthier lifestyle. Restoring Reverence for the Land For thousands of years, the Wabanaki people have lived upon and cared for this land, which they named Dawnland. The Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Mi'kmaq, and Maliseet tribes are the original inhabitants of the lands we now call Maine and the Canadian Maritimes. This event was named in recognition and respect of the Wabanaki people's reverence for the land they lived upon. We have never lived in a time where the need to restore reverence for the earth has been so urgent. The Western Foot Hills Land Trust also works to connect people to the land that we use and live in so this race seemed a fitting
opportunity for us to open that conversation with you about how we experience deeper care and relationship with the planet we tread and depend upon. Course Map This Caltopo link can be used to view our recommended travel route and the approximate run courses at each parcel. *Subject to change at Race Director's discretion.More detailed GPX files for each parcel will be provided in the emailed race briefing prior to the event. This link is a map of the 100k bike route https://caltopo.com/m/5FM6M Fully Human Powered Notes 100k Racers will check in at Virgil Parris Preserve the morning of the event Buckfield. There are only a handful of parking spots at the start of the race at Virgil Parris, but automobiles can be parked along the East side of the road along the woods. Cyclists can also be dropped off or ride to the start. Automobiles can be left at the park and ride lot in Buckfield just a mile away from the VP trailhead. NEW THIS YEAR!! We are partnering with RideShare to offer a shuttle to
the start. 100k Racers that want to take advantage of this service can leave their car at RADR field complex in Harrison and we will shuttle riders and bikes over on a small bus or van. This is limited to 100k soloist only. We will arrange heats of expected pickup times in the final week leading up to the race.If not using the shuttle, 100k Cyclists should plan to be picked up or ride out from Hawk Mt. RADR Field in Harrison is a convenient place to leave a vehicle that is a short downhill ride from Hawk Mt. Awards Party Come join us at 290 Maine Street in Norway for a post race celebration where we will announce the podium finishers and give away some swag. They have a great menu of food and drinks ready to order. We will likely be outside on their patio so dress warm! Event's current local time: 4:47 AM ET

In 2026, the Ruck for the Fallen will unite members of our community to honor our fallen Service Members in a 10k obstacle course race hosted at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, ME. We do this in tribute of those men and women from our local community whose lives were lost while serving in our nation's Armed Forces and who fought to defend the freedoms of America that we enjoy each and every day.
During this race, participants will strap packs to their backs and ruck through the beautiful (yet challenging) trails of Pineland Farms before undertaking "The Crucible," a series of 20+ obstacles that will test your strength, will, and endurance before crossing the finish line and earning your place amongst the elite.
Challenge. Serve. Inspire. These are the three pillars of R4TF that we encourage each member of our community to emulate. Together, we will carry forth the selfless service and extraordinary character that was exemplified by each of our fallen heroes. By doing so, we will remember them and continue to live a life worthy of their sacrifice.
We’re thrilled to announce we will be back in 2027 with our 2nd annual gravel ride presented by Pinebury! On Sunday, June 20, 2027, riders can take on either a 25-mile or 50-mile gravel route, starting and ending at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester. The gravel ride offers the perfect blend of challenge and adventure, whether you’re new to gravel cycling or a seasoned rider looking for something fresh. Gravel participants will still enjoy the full Trek experience—crossing the finish line alongside those completing the 3-day Trek Across Maine for an unforgettable celebration.
The updated route will be posted on TrekAcrossMaine.org once available.
Registration is $50 with a $100 fundraising minimum, or $65 on event day with the same fundraising requirement.
Volunteers are needed—please contact Emily at [email protected].

The Mainely Gravel ride is an event for all riders and is designed to challenge everybody on a mixed surface route over rolling hills. The gravel sections are everyday roads and can be ridden with either a road bike (30+mm tires ,recommended) or a gravel bike. PEDAL ASSIST BIKES are allowed but riders using such are not eligible for prizes. The dirt road surfaces can vary day to day depending on weather conditions and pot hole development. Please know that the last 5 kilometers of the route are on Pineland Farms xc ski trails that are well maintained and mown but could prove tricky on a road bike.
This year there are two course length options. The Long Course is 58 miles, and the short course (35 miles) is per the Long Course until mile 25 when the Short Course riders head for home while the Long Course riders do a 20-mile loop and then come back to hit the final 7 miles per the short course.
Registration check-in opens the day of the race at 8:30 with the mass start at 10:00. Riders will start en masse on Pineland Farms’ Oak Hill field adjacent to the parking lot. Please line up per your attitude toward the ride (Race? Ride? Adventure?). There is a lead car neutral start as the ride exits the 300 yards of the starting Oak Hill field and heads down Route 231 until the right hand turn onto Doughty Road.
Post race we are organize a gathering complete with food, drink and music. Food is provided by the Pineland Farms Deli and can be ordered on this registration page. Music is performed by local bands and we love giving them exposure. During the gathering we will have the awards presentation for Mainely Gravel short and long courses for all divisions. Our timing and results are handled by Eleven 11 Timing (www.eleven11timing.com) who do an absolutely wonderful job.
USA Cycling membership is not required for this ride.
Safety is paramount so follow the rules of the road. There will be road crossings. Stop! Check for traffic. The roads are open so stay right especially on blind sections such as corners and rolling hills.
Plenty to do at Pineland Farms. Bring the family who can enjoy a hike or run on the trails while registrants are out riding. Guests can buy lunch at the Pineland Farms market.
Port-a-johns are adjacent to the Oak Hill field parking lot.
Finally, Downeast Racing donates $5 of every registration to Independence Association (IA) which, for the last 60 years, has been dedicated to assisting adults and children with disabilities in obtaining full and inclusive lives in their chosen communities. As you will notice, we have included a donation option on the registration page. All donations (none too small!!) are used to enhance the programs for the Independence Association clients. Independence Association (IA) does fabulous work assisting those with disabilities lead full lives in the communities of the Maine Midcoast Region. Supervised independent living homes and apartments, outreach programs, work training, multiple physical fitness activities, friendship and caring. Mainely Gravel, through the generosity of its participants, has raised over $11,000 for Independence Association. We and the gang at IA thank you!!

Welcome to the Bradbury Badass Races Get ready for this beautiful challenge and the conclusion of the Bradbury Trail Running Series, where finishers earn the coveted Badass Hoodie as a badge of honor. There are two race options to choose from. Both will earn you a Badass Hoodie if you are completing the series, but only the Half-Pint 25K counts toward the Bradbury Trail Running Series standings and overall awards.Formerly part of the Big Brad Ultras, this event has evolved into the Bradbury Badass Races. In the Half-Pint, runners will tackle a 15.5-mile loop that’s a gauntlet of classic Maine singletrack. This journey takes you on both sides of Bradbury Mountain State Park—over Tryon Mountain, around the powerlines and Elwood Loop (better known as “Snowman’s Loop”), and back into the park for the finish.Expect tough hills, rocks, roots, and very little flat, including a 1/2 mile of paved road and 1/4 mile of dirt road. The Pounder 50K is the same course—just twice the fun. Two laps. Same
terrain. Higher stakes. If you’re a true glutton for punishment, you can finish the series with the Pounder instead of the Half-Pint. It won’t make you eligible for the series title, but it will make a statement. So why not finish the series with an ultramarathon? Registration Cap The Pounder 50K is capped at 80 runners. The Half-Pint 25K is capped at 120 runners. If the Half-Pint reaches capacity due to runners completing the Bradbury Trail Running Series, the cap may be adjusted at the discretion of the race director to allow all eligible series finishers to register.Once a race reaches capacity:• Registration will close• No additional entries will be accepted• No wait list• No bib transfers — NO EXCEPTIONS• Pounder runners may drop down to the Half-Pint prior to registration closing, but no refunds will be issued for the difference in entry feesThese limits ensure a safe and enjoyable experience and accommodate limited parking at Bradbury Mountain State Park. This event is about quality, not
quantity.
