Each year, the Newport County YMCA hosts the annual Pie Run on Thanksgiving Day. This USATF sanctioned race, originally founded in 1985 by the Newport Running Club, collects food donations for the MLK Community Center as well as raises necessary funds for the Y's Community Support Campaign. Typically, this beloved annual event draws over 2,000 walkers and runners who gather at the Newport County YMCA parking lot. This year, the Y is again offering a LIVE/IN-PERSON or VIRTUAL option, opening the event so that ALL members of our Y community can participate in a way that works for them!
“Every year, we are so grateful to all our Pie Run participants as well as volunteers. This holiday tradition brings our community together while honoring the Y’s core values of health and wellness and social responsibility. The success of the event enables us to help those in our community with life-changing programs and Y scholarships. This is a 5k race in memory of Drew Ceppetelli who passed away on Thanksgiving morning. This is an event that honors her life and raises funds for a scholarship in her name. This is a way for friends, family, and community members to come together and remember her while raising money for a fund used for people to better themselves, a cause that was important to her.
The race is an untimed event, which means that participants can run or walk the course at their own pace. The course is designed to be beginner-friendly, with mostly flat terrain, and is suitable for all fitness levels.
Participants can register for the race in advance below or on the day of the event between 8 and 9 AM. Donations for the scholarship fund can be made during registration or on the day of the event. Participants are encouraged to wear pink shirts (either those made for the 5k or something similar).
The 5k race is more than just a run. It's an opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate a life that was tragically cut short. It's a chance to remember a young woman who touched the lives of so many and to honor her memory by supporting a cause that was important to her.

49% of extremely biased twitteratti agree: this race is basically the World Championships
Hey, you probably noticed from the category names that this isn't a USAC sanctioned event. If you can't figure out what field to register for, the answer is either "Beginner" or "Singlespeed." Or you can always email us any questions using the "contact event" link above.
What's with the name?:
It's a combination of this and that.

What's new this year?
We have a food truck (Thai Chili)!
There's a bunch of new weird motocross lines and piles of dirt to play with! We don't know exactly how we're going to use it all yet, but we do know it's gonna be good.
What's your inclusivity policy?
Ice Weasels is a celebration of cyclocross that everyone should feel welcome to be a part of. Athletes are encouraged to show up and and race as their authentic selves in whatever category makes the most sense to them.
We have a zero tolerance policy for harassment so if anyone is being a jerk about anyone's identity (or anything else for that matter) let us know and we'll take care of it.
What's your refund policy?
We grant all refunds, all the time, for any reason. Missing the race is punishment enough, we don't need to rub it in by keeping your money. If you're on the fence, just register now (before your field is full!) and ask for a refund if you change your mind.
Remember how awesome last year was?
