Hello Steamboat Springs Track and Field community. We are so excited for our Youth Track and Field camp to return this summer. . Camp will be Monday - Thursday, starting June 8th from 9:00am - 11:00am at Gardner Stadium (45 Maple Street). A fun Track & Field meet will be held Thursday, June 11th 9-11:30AM, so that friends and family members can watch the athletes shine.
This camp will introduce kids to Track and Field events. Kids can run, jump, & throw....while having an action packed week of pure fun and expert coaching. We will work on team relays, starting blocks (even for the littles), high jump, hurdles, long jump, and a modified throws event. Our amazing SSHS Track and Field/Cross Country athletes and coaches will help to coach and mentor the young athletes at camp. The camp will consist of two groups. K-5th grade will be broken into appropriate age based groups, to maximize their fun and learning. The middle school group will be incoming 6-9th graders. This group will work on specific techniques for events, but in a fun environment. Each day the athletes will get to watch the high school athletes (and some of our returning college athletes) provide demonstrations of their own events, such as Pole Vault, High Jump, Shot Put, Hurdles and more.
For athletes who pre-register by Monday, May 18th, we will offer a camp t-shirt with your preferred size. After that date, we will have a some extras (not necessarily the correct size) to share. Athletes will also receive awards during the Thursday meet and snacks during camp.
Donation to Ukraine Youth Camps: As with last year, at least $5.00 of each registration will be donated to help provide youth camps in Ukraine this summer, where many children have lost homes, family and the opportunity to for many sporting activities. Our camp director, Lisa Renee, and her husband Doug have traveled to Ukraine seven different times since the full scale invasion. And both Lisa Renee and Coach Alexandra plan to travel to Ukraine in July, introducing Track and Field to the athletes there. It will be an honor to make a donation in the name of Steamboat Springs Youth Track and Field and each one of our athletes here. Additionally, our coaches and staff have a heart for helping any young Steamboat athletes attend camp, if finances would prevent them from attending.
When: Monday, June 8th - Thursday, June 11th

The race is held on the beautiful Spring Creek trail with wildflowers and Aspen trees next to bubbling Spring Creek. The 9.5 mile race is run on an up and down scenic loop on primitive trail, two track, single track and briefly on forest service road. This course gains ~1,750 ft. in the first 4 miles with most of that being from mile 2-4. This section of the race takes the runner up unimproved rocky and narrow single track and over several large downed trees before it descends on a smooth rolling downhill trail. The 5K race is an out and back on the beautiful Spring Creek trail on rolling two track and single track. Come out for a great day of running, a prize drawing and an even better post-race meal made by Freshies.
This race is held in memory of Patty Brenner Hagberg who was struck and killed by a truck along the lower part of the trail in 1991. This race should remind all of us the importance of sharing multi-purpose use trails.
